Line 6 I think contains two seals minus 's' at the end, so 'to seal'

Apologies for the silence at my end. Between watching the ospreys and operating a production line making the face masks I wrote about on the Lockdown Projects thread (the response has exceeded my wildest hopes, despite the fact that I'm a born optimist!), I haven't had much opportunity to bend my mind to this one!

Does anyone have anything further to add, or shall I post the solution?

I've been taking a look over a quick cup of tea and have the following suggestions.

Line 8 I think the last word is "blend"
Line 10 I think it's "as surely" and the last word presumably rhymes with "rains"
Line 12 I think it's "To gain at last a gate"

If it's showers in line 11 the last word of 10 could be flowers, as Noreen suggested.

I tnink we've more or less run out of inspiration with this - yes, do post the solution, Annied. I do stick by my last set of suggestions on lines 6, 11 and 12, but who knows?

Here's the solution.

A range is it, that object in the last line? You could have fooled me - well, it did fool me, of course!

Not one of our best efforts, I suppose, though we did better than I'd thought (of course, don't worry about the duplicates, Annied - that's better than two quite different versions!):

It's interesting that the earlier ones seem to be more difficult than the later ones. The last 2 or 3 I've posted pre-date the others by a few years.

Yes they do seem more difficult, I think it's often the little pictures that we find difficult to work out, the bits with letters seem easier to decipher.

There are things pictured - like the range - that would be familiar 150 years ago that we don't recognise now, for a start, as well as the change of use of words like intercourse (which I did think of at one point, but forgot again!)

I think, too, that our brains have got so used to photos, or at least photorealistic pictures - and colour, that deciphering something that has been badly reproduced in smudgy b&w is harder for us than it would have been 'in the day'.
