It let me post around 5,500 words in one go. I'm not sure what the limit on the SDL is, but it wasn't possible to post more than around 6,000 words at once in the old CBB drabble fora either (I tried it when I was reposting stuff after the Great Hack). 5,500-ish was fine, though, if that helps.

Thanks for the help, Alison. I tried to post about 7,000 words to take me up to the end of a sequence. It all went in the little box, but once I clicked Submit some of it was missing on the board there. Agh!

I think the 'right' length of chapter is a variable. I have just read a chapter of Eleanore, fewer than 600 words, and one of MaryR's, which has 4,902 words, and found both of them just a perfect length!

ETA I keep getting an 'incorrect form' message when I try to cast my vote for "Doesn't make any difference"!

Will have a look at the Poll sheshings, see if I have set it up properly.

Totally agree, now that there have been some more ongoing updates on there it does seem as though the chapters are reading ok for whichever drabble is going on.

ETA - Its doing the same with me when I tried to change my vote - sorry don't know why !

Pacing is a critical component of writing, whether you’re embarking on a novel, a novella, a short story, or a non-fiction book. As an author, you possess a key tool for pacing your audience’s reading experience: chapter length. The best authors manage the length of their chapters to pace the main character’s narrative arc. Proper chapter length also helps authors match their reader’s attention span and also build up anticipation for each twist and turn.website
