I suppose that that's rather less common than it was - my eldest cousin is 18 years older than me and my youngest is 15 years younger than me. Congratulations all round, anyway!

Oh, how lovely :)

My own happy news is book related. My husband spotted an ad on freecycle for a box of 1920s/30s children's books so he thought he'd grab them while the grabbing was good. The lady who advertised them kindly dropped them off to us today and though there are no Brent-Dyer books I did get this little lot:

I was quite excited to see At the Back of the North Wind as it's mentioned in a CS book, can't recall which just now but the library prefect is trying to round up stray books at the end of term. :D

In New Mistress, according to the Chalet School Journal. Anyway, congratulations on a good haul, RubyGates!

Lots of happy news. I don’t have any, but I have been working throughout all lockdown as a carer and we have been very well looked after. Getting used to the weekly testing too.

My Internet is working properly for the first time in 5 days - and it came "back" while I was on hold for the provider (not having to hang on for hours waiting for someone to answer is another source of relief - they were "too busy" earlier this morning to even put me in a queue!)

For some strange reason the landline is working for the 'phone but as I never use it I'm not too worried

Brilliant news last night. Birmingham University sent my daughter an email confirming her place to start this September. Sighs of relief all round!

I am taking early retirement from work at the end of October! I had not intended to go quite so early but have been getting increasingly stressed with work over the last couple of years and it's clear that, post-Covid, that is only likely to get worse so decided to give up the stress now! Already getting excited by the prospect although it's a little unnerving. Amongst other things, I am hoping to take up some voluntary work, possibly join a Townswomen's Guild once they are up running again post-lockdown (my mother is an avid member) and try my hand at writing a historical novel. The last is quite a daunting prospect mind you, as there's a heck of a lot of research needed - early fifteenth century England, Wales, France and Savoy and possibly ending up in Northern Italy.

Oh yes, happy retirement, chattie - I do recommend it, especially when you have lots of things that you want to do!

I have finished my dissertation, collected it from the printer's, and sent it off to the university (since they're not accepting in-person submissions at the moment).

We'll see what the examiners think of it... but for now - it's *done*!

Congratulations Chattie on your forthcoming retirement and whitequeen on your dissertation submission.

Our son is visiting for a week from the 11th. Fingers crossed.
