Although chopped-up watermelon and skinned, deseeded chopped-up tomato look very similar, only one makes a good pasta sauce.

Cat food goes in the cats' bowls. Washing powder goes in the washing machine.

(It's okay, I stopped myself before I actually poisoned the cats!)

The cats would never have forgiven you!

It's also not a good idea mistakenly to put washing powder in the dishwasher unless you want a scenario that looks like something out of a sitcom as you watch foam oozing out. I had no idea such a small amount of washing powder could produce so much foam.

And it's not a good idea to put the washing machine on whilst the powder is on the window sill by the washing machine, waiting to go in it.

The holder on a mandoline is there for a purpose. The end of your finger is not meant to go into the soup...

Well it was a veg soup - fennel and potato, which is what I was slicing! - and I rescued the bit of finger I'd sliced off, so it didn't go in; although as I used chicken stock it wasn't ever going to be pure vegetarian!

Thanks - it hasn't really hurt at all, just throbbed a bit - and of course bled a lot when I'd first done it.

It has put the kybosh on any knitting and crochet for a bit, though, which is annoying. At least I had already finished the major task of the blanket I'd been doing since January...I've uploaded a pic of it here, if anyone is interested...

Ouch!!

Lovely blanket. I thought for a moment that you meant you'd uploaded a picture of your thumb!

It was my index finger - I have photos, but am sparing the squeamish!

Thanks - I'm rather pleased with the blanket - it's a rather wonderful design by Catherine Bligh

Oh that's a very beautiful blanket Ruth, fabulous colour combination. Hope your finger recovers quickly!

Thank you - it is more a nuisance than anything at the moment, as you can imagine. I have just updated my blog, so more news and more blanket there!

The blanket is brilliant. I hope the finger recovers quickly, that sounds like quite a nasty injury.

Oh wow! I knit and crochet, but nothing even half as spectacular as that blanket. It's fabulous! I'm also amazed that it only took you 6/7 months.

Its appearance is all down to the brilliant designer Catherine Bligh - I just followed it all through as I was told! The instructions (which were very clear) came out in 13 parts, every 2 weeks, and I did fall behind a bit at the beginning, but some releases were less 'busy' than others, so it was possible to catch up - and once lockdown started, with fewer distractions, I was able to just sit at it - and was glad to have it to do. I rather miss it...

(though I have another Crochet-Along lined up that starts in September)

Wow, that is amazing. I'll think I'll stick to socks, which don't take so long.

When, after a mere 5 years, the doors on your fridge freezer are changed so they open the "right" way, it is a good thing to remember this.
Otherwise you will end up with the contents of the door (plus a shelf) on the ground.

It is not a good idea to stand in front of a wasps' nest and wave your arms about while talking.
