Am I right in thinking that they had another brother, as well as Hughie who was killed in the war? Not at home so can't check! Thanks.

I think they had two other brothers. Archie was the eldest, and in the RAF. There was a younger one, too, who was at school - maybe he was called Kenneth. That's from memory - I haven't been to check the book, so I'm quite prepared to be told I'm wrong about it.
