Need to do some work first!* Nell looked at the black object in front of her and gave vent to a sniff. "Well, really! Carolyn, if you can't do any better than that, I think we'll have to have you for dinner instead of poor Mary-Lou!" Nell grinned maliciously at the look that crossed the younger woman's face. "I know it, I really do!" she protested. "It doesn't look like it!" Vikki told her acerbically, from where she was curled on the floor. "That's 'cos you lot will keep on nattering and yabbing!" Carolyn shouted frantically waving her arms to give emphasis to her words. "You need to all-oops, sorry Auntie Hilda." Miss Annersley took a step back from Carolyn, who had narrowly avoided braining her. She gave her niece her famous icy look, and despite her own resolve, Carolyn felt her cocky certainty begin to drain. Once the Head was sure Carolyn was suitably deflated, she spoke. Her voice cracked. "If you have quite finished wasting our time, I'm sure we would all appreciate it if you would get us out of here." She paused. "Otherwise, I will summon my owl and tell him to carry a message to Dumbledore, recommending that you be removed from the Practical Magic Register." Carolyn went white at this threat, but she recovered herself. "Rats!" she said rudely. "How're you gonna get the owl here anyway?" Miss Annersley gave her a calm smile. "My dear girl, I may not be as proficient in the magical arts as Minerva McGonagall, but I am not a fool." And she reached into her jacket to withdraw a small, sleepy and somewhat grumpy white owl. Like it's owner, it was possessed of piercing grey eyes, and Carolyn, subjected to that twin battery, began to feel as if what was left of her would fit in a thimble. She directed what she hoped was an ingratiating smile at both the Head and the owl. "Heh. Well, I never said you were a fool, Aun- Miss Annersley," she finished meekly, having recieved another basilisk stare from the pair. "Do you know the correct words?" he aunt asked sweetly. "They're here," Carolyn mumbled. "I jus' need to work out how to say them!" "In correct English, I hope!" the Head pointed out with great dignity. "Spells aren't English!" Carolyn retorted, having recovered herself. "I meant the emphasis!" "At this rate we're gonna be here til Christmas!" Vikki wailed. Carolyn heaved a deep sigh. "Oh, very well!" Then she intoned, "Give me the power that's far beyond the wildest notion!" "That doesn't sound like a spell!" Vikki muttered. "SHHHHH!" hissed KB, worried about interuppting. Carolyn ignored them and continued. "Treguna, Mekoides, Tracorum, Satis, Dee!" Vikki sat up and looked interested. "I know those words from somewhere!" "'Course you do!" KB agreed. "It's in Bedkn-" she broke off and stared. The little bag had whizzed up the chimney, and they all raced to a window to see what happened next. It grew. And grew. And then just as KB was becoming convinced that it was going to grow until it either popped or extinguished the hapless prisoners in the farmhouse, something emerged from the bag.... |

Post by Lisa_T on Nov 5th, 2003, 11:55pm Vikki glanced at KB who after a moment’s initial fascination had collapsed in the corner again. “KB!” Her tone was urgent and the other girl looked up at her quickly. “What is it?” “Inflatable kangaroos on bicycles!” the Second Prefect told her with a decided glint of mischief in her eyes. But KB, having decided that such a thing was highly likely in this strange world, subsided with a despairing groan. The others were too busy staring to pay attention to this little aside and it was only when a bang was heard at the door that they, and KB turned. KB crawled at some considerable speed to the table. “What’s wrong with her?” Nell asked, eying the Head Girl suspiciously. She had long since lost faith in these changeable CBBers, whose one mission in life seemed to be to exterminate by one means or another the entire cast of the Chalet School. Vikki looked angelic. “I can’t imagine what you mean, Miss Wilson,” she returned primly. Carolyn gave a screech of excitement and danced a jig on the spot. “It worked! It worked!” Bill looked at her with considerable disfavour. “You had no business even trying if you believed otherwise!” Carolyn, thanks to her latest brainwave, had lost all fear of Bill. She extended her tongue as far as possible and waggled it cheekily at that lady, who was so shocked that she was robbed of her breath. Sadly, her breathlessness lasted too long, and she keeled over in a neat faint, only narrowly missing the soles of KB’s shoes. KB yelped. “It’s the kangaroos!” she wailed. “The kangaroos are coming!” |

You did it! ;D *************** Vikki backed towards KB in her excitement and fell over Nell, thus landing heavily on top of KB, eliciting a squawk from the Head Girl. “Don’t take me,” she wailed. “I’ve done nothing! I’m innocent! Leave me alone!” “What *are* you blithering about?” came Vikki’s astonished tones once she had recovered from her involuntary fall. “The kangaroos!” sobbed KB. “I’m an Aussie! They’re my worst nightmare!” By this time Nell had staggered to her feet with a little help from Hilda, who was the only person to maintain a semblance of calm and normality. Carolyn was still dancing her jig (on her notebook) with a dedication worthy of a better cause. |

Post by Lisa_T on Nov 6th, 2003, 12:41am “I think this lot are dangerous!” Nell muttered in an aside to her friend. “Oh, they’re not so bad,” the Abbess returned tolerantly, being famed for her patience and longsuffering- both qualities very much in evidence at the present time. The door shook with such violence that the rusty hinges give up the ghost and the door slowly fell to crash at their feet. KB continued to gibber under the table, and Vikki was too busy staring to take action as she might otherwise have done. Scrambling over KB’s feet- she was curled up with her face to the wall- Vikki came to stand beside the Heads. Carolyn finished her jig in such excitement that the lid of the notebook fell off and smashed. “That was careless of you,” Vikki told her with a smirk. “Who cares. Don’t need it now!” was the careless reply. |

They knew they were there because each one was dressed in the Chalet School gentian blue velveteen for evening wear. Then the fun started. “Uniformi, haltus!” Carolyn declaimed. The uniforms fell in a limp heap at her feet, and she beamed around at them all- except KB. “There you are!” Carolyn told them in satisfaction. “Now all you need to do is get into them!” A muffled shriek came from KB. “No. No. No! NO! I’m not gonna get in there. I’m never gonna get in there. You can’t make me. I’ll stay here from now til eternity if I have to-“ “I don’t think you’d like that very much,” interjected Hilda, her face darkening. “But at least EBD is not in the vicinity!” “Don’t care!” came defiantly from KB. “I’d rather face EBD than have to get inside a kangaroo-“ |

Vikki had the opposite problem; hers swamped her, whilst the two Heads found to their dismay that the skirts seemed indecently short. “You did!” shrieked KB, rapidly losing all self control. “You said I had to get into it. Well, I’m not gonna. And-and if you try to make me, I’ll give you a Head’s Report!” “Rather difficult when she’s here right now,” Vikki reminded her drily. “Doesn’t matter!” yelled KB, her powers of logic going now. “I’m just gonna stay here-“ By that time, Nell had had enough. She crossed over to KB and yanked her out from under the table with more force than gentleness. As KB- whose eyes were tightly closed- opened her mouth to give another yell, the older woman gave her a sharp slap, and KB came to her senses with a strangled gasp. “W-what happened?” she stuttered. “Never mind,” the Head told her soothingly. “Just get into this nice warm uniform and then we can leave. It’s urgent that we do so,” she added with a troubled glance at the window. “EBD_Herself has just appeared, and I am anxious to avoid her.” “I don’t blame you!” exclaimed Nell. “KB, get into that thing and be quick about it. We’ve wasted enough time thanks to you as it is!” |

I’d forgotten about her.” Carolyn looked anxious. “I suppose you’ve forgotten the words to that as well!” snapped Nell, who had still not forgiven her. Hilda looked up from where she was vainly trying to pull her skirt over her knees. “I can have a try,” she said hopefully. “I don’t suppose anyone will try to interrupt me this time, will you?” and she gave Nell and meaning look as she spoke. They all promised dutifully. KB in any case was feeling too much of an idiot to protest, and she was very subdued, for her. Accordingly, the Head waved the bent hairpin she had retrieved from her neice, and once again spoke the magic word: “Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious!” and Mary-Lou appeared to them in a burst of lilac flames. |

"That doesn't justify the nasty fright she gave us all!" snapped Vikki. "That's beside the point, Victoria. Besides, I have another reason for wanting Lesley back." "Waffle Waffle Waffle!" shrieked Rachel's Head. "That's all yous ever do! Gimme Mary-Lou and gimme 'er now. I'm gettin' peckish," she added, giving the Head an unpleasant leer. "Well, I hope you aren't planning on taking either of us for dinner!" Nell burst out indignantly. Rachel looked surprised. "Why would I want to do that?" She snickered. "You two are too old. I want something nice and young and tender..." and her eyes roved around the room causing KB, who was the youngest, to give another yelp and attempt to crawl behind Miss Annersley. That lady inclined her head. "Very well." She waved her wand again and before anyone had quite realised what had happened, she produced a small llama kid with big blue eyes and pigtails. "Here you are!" she told Rachel. Rachel giggled. "Thanks kindly, mate. Now I'm off!" and after wreathing the unfortunate llama kid with some smoke, they both disappeared with a 'pop'! |

"Nell, I've had an invisiibility cloak ever since I took over from Mademoiselle. It was the only way of being able to keep track of everything that was going on in the School, from the Staff Room down to the Junior Common Room!" She stopped and looked at them. "Come, there's no need to look like a school of stranded codfish! How do you think I kept my finger on the pulse- some strange form of osmosis?" "And the kid?" Vikki asked again, rather blankly this time. "It has no real substance. As soon as it is placed in contact with either heat, mint sauce, or new potatoes, it will vapourise into nothingness." "I-see!" said Vikki. It was all she could think of to say. |

I had similar episodes at 11 which turned out to be some kind of brain tumour, but my dad prayed for me and at the next scan I got the all clear!! Lucky was too young to understand what was going on. Shows what faith healing can do.. Anyway... *********************** Apparently unaware of the reactions her simple statements had roused, Hilda turned brisk. "Now, are we all ready?" she began in her best Head Mistress tones. Dumbly, everyone nodded. "What about you, Xanthe? Are you ready?" The owl, now perched on her shoulder, gazed unblinkingly at her and she nodded. "Very well, then!" and still struggling to pull her skirt further down, the Head led the unprotesting calvacde to the door. When she attempted to open it, however, the door still would not budge, and she turned in some puzzlement to her neice. |

Carolyn stopped chewing a piece of magic gum she had discovered in the bowels of her notebook. "Wassat?" "The door! It's closed!" "Funnily enough, 's'what it's for," Carolyn drawled, rather offensively. "Never heard the old cliche- see that hole, put the bit of wood in it?" and Carolyn began to laugh uproariously at her own wit. Hilda gave her a disgusted glance and had another go and opening the door. Xanthe peeked out from her pocket and hopped onto her shoulder where it beamed on everyone for a moment. Then it leaned- as far as an owl can lean- over to Miss Annersley's ear and issued a series of soft clicks and chirps that made the Abbess nod her head as she listened. "What did it say?" KB demanded breathlessly. Like Carolyn some time before, she found herself subjected to twin blue grey glares from the Head and Xanthe respectively. "Her name is Xanthe," the Head told her impressively. "And she's extremely wise. She always tells me what to do with naughty Middles," she added. "But what did it-sorry, she- say?" KB demanded, dancing with an almost Vikki-like lack of patience. For reply, the Head turned back to her neice. "Carolyn! We need that spell again!" she called. Carolyn opened one eye. "Dunno what it is!" she responded. There was a concerted groan. "I think I can remember it," Mary-Lou put in hesitantly, and they all turned to face her. Vikki started to giggle, but the Head looked at her former Head Girl gravely. "Can you?" she asked with a strange intensity. KB looked thoughtful at this, but after a moment's cogitation concluded regretfully that the Head's construction was as correct as ever, and that she was unable to inform her that she should have said 'may you'! |

Nell looked at her thoughtfully. There was something different about her. Nell couldn't quite place it and glared in such a way that the hapless Mary-Lou became even more nervous. "Treguna, Mekoides, Trecoram, Satis, Dee," she almost whispered. The Head frowned at her. "It might help if you spoke up," she suggested, her own voice as beautifully pitched as ever. Mary-Lou repeated the command at a slightly louder volume, and still nothing happened. The Head wrinkled her brow, and just as she was about to make another comment, Nell made a sudden exclamation. "Eureka! I've got it!" "Got what?" drawled Carolyn, still chewing on the gum. "A life?" Nell did not dignify this comment with a response. "I know what's wrong with Mary-Lou," she proclaimed, jabbing a finger in that young lady's direction. Hilda forgot her spell. "What's wrong with her then?" "You'll never believe it." Nell stopped and chuckled. "It's incredible!" "What is it?" asked KB and Vikki, stepping on each other's toes as they danced in their impatience. Even Xanthe the owl bounced up and down in it's eagerness, but it that case the result was not fortuitous. Xan suffered a rush of blood from the head and conked out. Luckily the Head caught her in time. Nell waited until the owl had come round before she continued. "It's so amazing," she said quietly. "But- Mary-Lou's shy!" "No!" burst from all of them, and they all swung round to stare at the now scarlet and distressed Mary-Lou. |

Post by Lisa_T on Nov 8th, 2003, 11:37pm Just as everyone - including Hilda and Nell- had got nice and close to the big-eyed Sanity Cow, a loud noise emitted from the cow's rear end and a noxious smell filled the room. Everyone gasped and stepped back- fortunately. The Cow was standing with her back end towards the small fire. The sudden explosion of gas was the last straw and an almighty explosion ripped through the farmhouse, flinging all the inhabitants well and truly out of it. As the smoke and thunder from the explosion died, Mary-Lou slowly raised her head to see the Sanity Cow walk placidly from the ruins, and then disappear in a puff of sparkly pink smoke. *Credits: Guess Who!* |

"Wouldn't you like to know!" "Yes we would," KB informed her trenchantly. "So tell us, or else we'll- we'll-" "What?" asked Rachel sweetly, rolling her eyes at the HEad Girl in a manner calculated to make anyone nervous. "We need Hilda!" KB whispered urgently in Vikki's ear. "Be a lam- er. Be a dear and run and find her, will you?" Vikki nodded and vanished, too anxious to allow the situation to become a yibbling contest. After some frantic searching, she found the Heads, huddled together undeneath a plank and a plastic bush. |
