The Head picked up the tin foil wand, and warned by what had happened last time, Nell remained resolutely silent whilst Hilda said, as portentously as she could, "Supercalifragilisticexpaliadocious!" and a shower of sparks ejected from the wand. They hovered around both Vikki and Mary-Lou for a moment, before settling on Vikki. There was a vivid flash, and Hilda and Nell opened their eyes to find themselves looking at a girl who was considerably shorter than they were, but with the same blue grey eyes that had riveted their attention earlier. ******************** New bit: Those blue grey eyes were so huge they looked like they were about to pop out. “Who are you?” Nell asked. “Vikki. Don’t call me Victoria!” the girl responded in a mumble, still gaping at them. “I see,” responded Nell, a little bemused by this. “Well, you’re fortunate it’s a recognised short. We don’t allow nicknames!” “What about Robin and Polly then?” Vikki muttered. Nell glared at her. “What did you say?” “Er- nothing, Miss Wilson.” “How did you know my name?” Nell asked, startled. “I’m a CBBer,” Vikki responded in her normal tones. “That means-“ “Yes, we know what it means, thank you,” said Miss Annersley briskly. “We’ll take it as read that you know considerably more about us than we do about you. Now, can you explain to me why you ended up as a llama and who was responsible for it?” Vikki went pink. “I-I was yibbling,” she confessed. Both Heads gaped at her. “*Yibbling*?” “Yes, Miss Annersley.” “What, pray, is yibbling?” Nell demanded, seeing that her partner was too stunned by the new word to ask herself. “Well, er, it means getting into weird conversations that go on and on and on and there’s lots of name calling and..” Vikki’s voice trailed off as she caught Miss Wilson’s eye. “And you are Second Prefect on the CBB, I believe?” Miss Wilson’s voice was impassive, and Vikki blushed again and shuffled her feet. “As far as I’m concerned, you should be demoted for that! Now, answer Miss Annersley’s question. How did this unsuitable behaviour result in your transformation?” Before Vikki could respond, there was a series of high pitched yips and yaps, and to the astonishment of both Hilda and Nell, Vikki gave a shriek and ran to hide behind Miss Annersley. |

Hilda bent forward to investigate, being careful to avoid the little dog’s mouth. That tone left no room for disobedience, and a rather sulky looking Vikki detached herself from the Head and came round to face that lady, who looked at her sternly. "What do you know about this?" she asked pleasantly, but with a hint of steel in her voice. "I said not to call me Victoria," the owner of the name muttered under her breath. "I beg your pardon?" Miss Annersley sounded so icy that Vikki decided that now was not the time to be fussy about names. "N-nothing, Miss Annersley. It wasn't my fault!" she added hopefully. "That is not what I asked," the Head responded sharply. "Evidently, this dog means something to you. Equally evidently, it is an enchanted person. Now, for the second time, who is this, and how did you come to be a llama?" "I told you," Vikk returned, as insolently as she dared. "I was yibbling with-with KB. And-and then we started arguing, so she turned me into a llama." Vikki ended on a gloomy note. "So is this KB a witch?" the Head asked, waving her tatty wand nonchalantly at the chihuahua, which gave a yelp and jumped back five paces. "I don't think so," the girl mumbled back at her. I-I think she gets her powers from somewhere else." |

"Tell us all about it," Hilda invited. "We're members of the CBB," Vikki began. "She's Head Girl. I'm Second Prefect. You'd think that, between us, we'd hold all the power." "And you don't." It was not a question. "So-?" Nell did not need to finish. KB looked up from Vikki's lap and barked and howled. Nell turned to her friend. "What does it say?" "I don't know." Miss Annersley looked mystified. "I was never taught Chihuahua speak." "That was useful!" Nell snorted. Miss Annersley nodded in agreement, and once again pronounced the magic word in her clear, carrying tones. |

I've no intention of doing any such thing- at this point, anyway. ****************8 To the surprise of those watching, this spell worked slightly differently to the earlier ones. Instead of a bright flash, there was a dismal 'pop!' and a burst of smoke that made Miss Annersley look at her wand with some anxiety. However, there was no need to worry. KB, Head Girl of the CBB, stood before them, and Vikki ran to throw herself on her erstwhile yibbling companion with a yell of relief. "KB! Thank the pigs! Now maybe you can get us out of here. This pair are in collusion with You Know Who!" KB turned and looked at the Heads, and her jaw dropped. "But that's Miss Annersley and that's-" she paused and looked rather doubtfully at the other woman. Hilda Annersley was easily and immediately recognisable to any Chalet School Know All, but Miss Wilson was less so in her older incarnation. "Miss Wilson?" she asked rather uncertainly. "Indeed," Nell Wilson returned frostily. "People do change, Katherine!" "There! You see!" Vikki pointed out frantically. "No, no, no," KB interjected soothingly, "she means that she's gotten older." "She does?" Vikki stopped panicking for a moment and looked at the Heads for a moment. Her blue grey eyes met the Head's, but for once the power of Hilda's eyes failed her, and Vikki turned back to the Head Girl. "But, KB, they mentioned bunnies-" "I was only referring to Miss Annersley's lamentable inability to understand KB," Nell protested, forgetting her annoyance. But KB too looked worried. "Bunnies?" she repeated slowly. Vikki nodded vigorously. "Yes. She said she wished the Abb- I mean, Miss Annersley- had learnt to talk bunny speak!" KB looked grave. "Miss Annersley, have you met a bunny lately?" The Head nodded. "Yes, it was-" Vikki interupted with another scream and began hammering on the doors and windows and yelling for help. KB clapped her hands to her ears. "I'm really sorry," she said apologetically, "but she gets a bit excited sometimes. Vikki! Put a sock in it, do!" Vikki ignored her and carried on screaming and wailing. The Heads looked most disapproving. "And Victoria is Second Prefect?" Miss Wilson enquired. "Yes- but it's not how you think!" KB added quickly. "But never mind that now! Tell me about the bunny." |

"Actually, I was responsible for that," she admitted. Cue more noise from Vikki! With an indescribable expression, KB asked Miss Annersley for a hanky. As always, that lady had an unlimited supply, and handed them over easily enough. KB then went and shoved a couple in Vikki's mouth. Not surprisingly, the noise ceased and they were able to continue. "I'll apologise later," KB added to her fellow CBBer. "But this could be important! Another squeak from you, and you'll get slapped!" Vikki subsided, whimpering a little while she removed the hankies. "Could you explain, Miss Annersley?" KB requested politely. The Head gave her a wary look. She couldn't understand how KB had been made Head Girl if this was an example of her treatment of her subordinates. Hilda couldn't imagine Len Maynard, for instance, silencing one of her juniors in such a fashion. But then, she remembered, they *had* said something about different rules. She gave it up and concentrated on replying to KB. |

KB glared meaningly at her, and she quietened again. "I see," she said thoughtfully. "But she's not a rabbit now." "No," agreed Nell. "That was another spell gone wrong. She ended up as you see her- a purple llama with blonde pigtails!" She looked sorrowfully at Mary-Lou as she said this, and that -er, llama- tried to kick her. Nell skipped out of the way in time. "But I still don't understand all this fuss about bunnies!" protested the Head, returned to her usual self. KB glanced quickly at Vikki, but beyond a loud gulp, she managed to restrain herself. The Head Girl gave a nod of satisfaction and turned back to the Heads. "You see," she explained in a whisper so quiet that Nell and Hilda had to draw closer to listen, "it was a bunny who was responsible for *our* transformations. We annoyed Liss the Fluffy Bunny with our constant yibbling, and she forced me to turn Vikki into a llama before turning me into a dog. That's who we're trying to avoid now- Liss the Fluffy Bunny and her family of twelve extremely dangerous plot bunnies.." |

It's really good- lovely snippets. Although I have to say, I couldn't help giggling at the bit when Matey forces Hilda to drink some whiskey from quote 'her own whiskey flask.' I can't work out whether the flask is supposed to belong to Matey or Hilda- EBD's not too clear. But since Hilda goes on to mention how she hates the taste of whiskey, it must be Matey's. So there you go- there's another peice of useless information for your Matey story. We've got it all wrong. *Matey* was the closet alcoholic, rather than Hilda! ;D |
