Title: Sister's at the chalet school
Post by Chloe on Sep 23rd, 2003, 2:53pm
Thought I’d try another idea I’ve had as for once I’m on top of all my work…

Lying down reaching under her bed was Frankie, to give her, her proper name Francesca Myers she was trying to reach a frame lying face down from where it had fallen behind her bed.  The noise of the door shutting down stairs made her push out and scramble down from her room and into the entrance hall.
“Well don’t you look like a regular ragger muffin, can you keep clean for even two hours”, rustling her brown hair that had started the morning in two neat plates that reached just below her shoulders, “and just look at the state of your frock, you can go and change at once” Frankie began to protest, “you’ll get anything from me till you look more Christian like!”  When Clare was in this mood there was no other thing to do but what she said.
Clare was Frankie’s older sister.  They had been orphaned a year ago.  It was six years since they had lost their mother, Frankie having been only eight and only a year since there father had worked himself to death trying to prove he was capable of raising his daughters alone.  Clare had gone to university, and last year graduated from Oxford with honors, she had intended to help pay for her little sister to whom she had been more a mother figure than sister, but now it was left all to her.  Their older brother was in America, he’d left as soon as he was twenty-one, that had been five years ago.  They hadn’t seen him since, the girls would have occasional postcards from him, but he had never forgiven his father for their mother’s death.
Sliding down the banner-stairs Francesca emerged in a deep crimson dress that suited her brown hair and green eyes, no longer coated in dust, looking like any normal thirteen year old.
“Clare, what he’d say, not that I can’t predict what that old fuss pot is likely to say”, the glare her sister cast her went unnoticed, “give me the worst of it, you need to relax and we’re going on holiday”,
“Not quiet but you’re very close. We’re moving, no don’t interrupt me.  Living in London has never suited me, and Dr Bentham had made arrangements for us to move to the continent, Switzerland to be precise.  There’s a school up there in need of a history teacher and I got confirmation today...”
“But where’ll I go, if you’re at that school over there and I’m here, what will happen to me I don’t want to board, I mean I love St Wini’s and all, but, but..” this was the first time Clare had seen her little sister lost for words, the expression on her face broke her serious expression into a pearl of laughter,
“There’s no need to laugh at me, if that’s the way you feel the beastly school can have you, I’ll be fine on my own”, to which she sat down on the floor with a bump, fastened her lips tightly together and crossed her arms.
“If you’re going to be such a baby about it all, perhaps I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new uniform for you and all the other things you’ll need”.
“You mean I’m coming too that’s smashing, I’ll be good, an angel in fact”, with which she flung herself onto her sister.
“It’d be the first time in your life if you did” she chuckled,
“I don’t care what you say I’m too happy to let a comment like that upset me”, to which she turned to skip out of the room, much more like the eight year old Clare often forgot her sister was not any longer.

*wonders what possed her with this mad iea*

As at least Jennie and Marianne are reading this i thoguht i continue with a little more and as for xan i wont asay anything to shatter your illusion except sometimes she has nothing on Matey ;)

Two weeks had past and as all the plans had been laid before Francesca had been told, so she had little to do except say goodbye to people as Clare had watched over all her packing, and Alex was returning from America in about a month the house was only to be close of a short time and only furniture had to be bothered about for the moment as Clare had not yet found a small place anywhere and Francesca would be coming back in the holidays to see Alex, although she could not be sure f it would be possible for her to.
“Bother it Clare why can’t I do it, I’ll be dumb every third day at this rate, I’ll never manage it, it’s alright for you, you have mum and granny’s gift for learning especially languages it’s just not in me”, Clare turned from the garden, she had been gazing at the rose bush which their mother was so proud of,
“Hmm, oh, don’t be silly, you manage German easily enough and as for not being able, you’ve enough brains to manage, your problem is you’re lazy my child”,  Francesca poked her tongue out at this but quickly leapt for the chair to race to the door where she had heard the taxi pull up,
“Come on old lady, if you don’t get a move on we’ll be late and then miss the train and somehow I’ll be blamed for you being late on your first day”,
“You cheeky brat, but you must remember I’m to be one of your teachers, so I can’t run around like I used to with you”, that was only partly true, looking after a sister so much younger than herself tried her, so much she had gone to see the family doctor who recommended the Alpine air, she had been delicate as a young girl, but she had promised her father to look after her health as much as she would care for Francesca.  “Sit still and at least act like you know how to behave in public or I might have to reconsider your coming with me”
Letting out a little gasp, “You wouldn’t would you, you couldn’t be that mean, I know Alex is a darling”, this made Clare choke slightly, her brother maybe nice enough but never in her life had she heard him described as a darling, “but it’s not the same, we’re meant to be together and…”, here she was stuck, “who else is going to look after you and make sure you stay out of trouble” she ended with a chuckle and grinned up at her sister as they stepped in the taxi.
“All I can say is that I’m glad you’re a good traveler, with the amount you ate when we were at Bettie’s, you’re lucky you’ve had a bilious attack, however much Bett adores you, and you her she should know better than to give to that, especially as she handed me another bag full before I left”, thoroughly squashed for the time being Francesca turned to stare at the scenery in which she had grown up and spent all her life surrounded by.

“Arrggggh”
“Frankie, that’s not polite cover your mouth at once, how did you know if we were alone in the carriage or not?”
“Because I’m so clever of course you said so yourself”, Frankie had taken every opportunity to quote this at Clare since they had left London,  “Anyway, I’m starving when do we reach Paris and do I get time to grab some of those luscious pastries Helen has bragged about having tasted?”
Clare let out a little laugh at this, “Sorry my dear but you’re a bit too late for that you slept right through, I tried to wake you for a good ten minutes, some poor porter ended up carrying you to the spot you find yourself in now”, colour flooded into her face at this,
“He didn’t carry me far did he; anyway you said we had a long journey so I should rest all I could!”
“Well at least you weren’t snoring, and it was only across the platform and there was no mad dash and as it was an overnight train there were only a few other passengers, but if you’re hungry I’ve Bettie’s cakes still, or fruit”, Frankie pulled a face at the emphasis on the last word as it was well known how little she liked food of the savory kind.  “We’ll be at Basle in a minute or two so get that rug tied you and be ready to dash we don’t have a moment to spare for the next change..”
“To Interlaken I know you made me memorize the whole journey just in case I got lost” which she ended with a role of her eyes.  As the carriage door swung open and Frankie jumped out before the train came to a halt, causing a shriek from her sister, who worried as to what injury Frankie ha caused to herself by the leaping out of the train, her thoughts were cut short as she heard the familiar voice stammering,
“Oh I’m so sorry I had no idea that anyone was there or I wouldn’t have… your not to badly hurt are you… oh what will Clare say she’ll be raging mad… here can I help at all?”
“She may be angry, but I doubt she will be raging” came the strangers friends voice,  “She’ll be fine, actually it’s quiet funny when you think about it” to which she let out a chuckle, by this time Clare had gathered together all their belongings and had got down and over to the people ready to make more apologies,
“You must be Miss Myers, and this person must be Francesca, I’m…”

*wonders if will live to continue this or anyother drabble as xan's just got home :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/*

Not sure if i want to carry this on if that's your idea Vikki as if i don't finish i can't be killed ;D, but as Esmeralda was so nice i just might add this little bit more for the time being...

Meanwhile back in England Helen was in a temper,
“That’s not fair why does she get such a treat I want one too!” with this statement she lay down on the floor and kicked and screamed much more like a child of six than thirteen,
“But darling it’s because of Miss Myers she gone, and just think you’ll be able to take the middle school prefect-ship alone now, you’ll have all the girls looking up to you and…”
“I DON’T CARE”, she screamed, “I can lead all that lot by the nose, but it’s her I want to control her”.  Helen Williams was simply a spoilt brat, who loved to be in charge at school she had be feared or admired by everyone when she move to London, all that is except Francesca, she had never meet Miss Myers, but due to her fathers determination, Francesca had never been easily swayed and unlikely to be influenced by anyone, let alone a new girl who turned up one day and started bossing everyone around, even Miss Gowing had seemed slightly unsure of how to deal with her so let her go her own way.
“Well how about if I go down to see Miss Bett and she what she knows and then you can go too?”  Her mother was very weak minded and had no control over her only daughter, who thanks to be the only girl and very pretty too had meant since birth had been petted by all.
She sat up at this “If you would that would be smashing ta-ta for now I’m of to see Pa” to which she walked out of the room her head hold, high, but for someone who despised babyish behavior so much it was ironic just what her future held for her.

“I’m sorry its Miss Buckley-Myers isn’t it, truth be told I forgot I knew your sister was just Myers, which is unusual for sisters to have different surnames”
Francesca started mouth open at this who was this woman being so free about her and her sister?
“Give them a chance to breath, Miss Buckley-Myers looks have scared still from that little stunt this Madame just played” turning her stare onto Francesca, laughing she add “Why don’t we sit down there’s a very good café just around the corner and I’ll explain it all, come on Kathie, lead the way”.
Swept along with it all they some found themselves sitting in a small, but pleasant café,
“Now for introductions I’m Miss Wilson, head of St Mildred’s house and this is Miss Ferrars Inter V form mistress and maths and geography teacher”,
“I beg your pardon I don’t hope Francesca hurt you to badly, she knows she’s too old to behave like that, but she’s just excited this is all so new to her” Clare hoping that all this formality with names wouldn’t continue in private,
“Now it’s not the first time I’ve had a pupil try to kill me by landing on top of me, at least she didn’t feel like her bones were made from solid steel” turning directly to Francesca, “You must get the full story from Mrs Maynard some time soon, perhaps when you go over for tea”,
“Who’s Mrs Maynard please and why will I be having tea with her”
“She has every new girl over to tea as a welcome to the chalet school; she was the very first pupil, though you may know her better as Josephine M. Bettany”, replied Kathie Ferrars, but Francesca simply shook her head, much to Clare’s disgust,
“Just wait till we’re alone Francesca Mary Myers” she thought

I will leave you to wonder Vikki as to who i have based Helen Williams on ;D ;D

but here's the next bit...

But for the moment that had to wait as soon as they arrived at the Platz, Clare was whisked off to meet her new employer and Having been told to go for a walk about the grounds, but return to the main building by 16.00 which she had gathered to mean four o’clock English time for Kaffee und Kuchen which she supposed to be the Swiss equivalent of afternoon tea.
It was the last week in August and as she had had explained to her over and over again by Helen that would mean the end of the tourist season for places like this, so when she heard that chatter of many young voices and a dog barking close to where she was she couldn’t help but turn round and round trying to work out which direction them came from and if it could mean her early arrival at the school wouldn’t be as lonely as she had first thought?
Feeling much more of a meek student than a new mistress at the chalet school, Clare knocked on the door, to hear a clear voice call “Come in”
“Errmm Miss Annersley”, her voice shook slightly as she was faced with Miss Wilson and three other ladies, one fairly young with blonde hair and a very pretty appearance, and taller respectable lady with a mass of black hair plaited up and before she could decide the best way to describe the final lady her hand was grasped and she was being pulled further into the room and properly welcomed to the staff and to Switzerland, with laughter in her eyes the lady with black hair spoke again,
“Welcome, my dear, I am Mrs Maynard or Joey still to many people, you as well, the very first pupil of this establishment, you’ve meet Nell already and I must say I can’t wait to meet young Francesca a girl after my own heart” chuckling she continued, “you’ve spoken to Rosalie over the phone I know and this is the head, Miss Annersley, you must pop over for a proper chat when your settled I must go Len’s due any minute now”, to which she turned and fled through the French windows.
“Well as Joey made all the introductions, if you don’t mind we’d like a full explanation of the surname situation?” Hilda said having been a little confused over the last letter she had received, she new that Clare well for the time being in good health, and that if she hadn’t left England that would not have remained the case, and it was only after discussions with Jack Maynard that they had agreed to take her no as Junior and middle history mistress.
“Well you see my father was Mr Buckley-Myers and so my brother and I were named too, but when it came to Francesca, with her early arrival, when she was registered the Buckley was somehow, well missed out, and never noticed till some years later.  Both being new to the school I thought it best to drop the Myers at the end of my surname”.
“So we gathered, but we don’t understand why you should wish such a thing, of course we have no problem with it, but we must insist on a reason!”
“It’s for Francesca sake, I was at school with a girl who’s mother taught her and I know how difficult she found it with the other girls so I chose to give Frankie a clean break and this way no connection can be made and she starts off with a clean slate so to speak” she ended here it had sounded so much better in her head,
“Well it is your decision to make, does Francesca know this all”, Clare nodded her head, “anyhow it may interest you to know we already have that problem in the school our language teacher has sisters in the school, but we’ve had no problems so far.”
“Thank you very much, but I’ve thought long and hard about this and I’m sure we want to do it this way, any way we’re not the least alike”, Nell let out a laugh at this as it was so true. Like many sisters before them at the chalet school Clare and Francesca were totally different, Clare was only 5’4 and had thin, light golden brown hair with red tints in which if worn down curled at the ends, reaching not far above her waist and deep brown eyes which were hidden behind glasses, very neat, elegant and slender and slightly tanned skin.  Compared to Francesca, with her fairly thick brown straight hair, vivid green eyes, pale complexion, the kind that normally would just burn in the sun and was built on a vaguely larger scale than her sister.

Out side in the grounds hearing a laugh from behind her Frankie spun round to face...

A boy, younger than herself, with a crop of thick red hair, which reminded her of a bunch of carrots, he had come running laughing along the path, but at the sight of this unfamiliar girl stop short,
“Who are you and what are you doing, here’s its private land”, his accent was English, but had a tint of something else in it,
“I…I” Frankie stammered
“Geoff, get back here at once, you know you’re not allowed into school grounds so close to the start of term” The taller girl stopped at the sight of Frankie, “Oh you must…”
“She’s trespassing, was get rid of er” Geoff interrupted
She turned her gaze from Frankie, “That’s enough from you, go back at once, apologise before you go as I doubt if you were polite, and try to act like you know how to speak properly or I’ll have to tell Mamma”, meekly he turned red to the tips of his ears and walked back along from the direction he had come.
“Sorry, let me introduce myself, I’m Felicity Maynard, and you must be Francesca Myers, Auntie Hilda said you were arriving early, come into our garden and I’ll tell you as much as I can about the school, I’ve practically grown up in the school”,
“Oh but I can’t I was told by a teacher that I had to be back for Kaffee and Kuchen at 4 o’clock”
“I’ll ring them up and say you’ve been invited to ours, I’m sure they won’t mind having you off there hands, and by the way we call them mistresses here”, she let out a golden laugh that caught Frankie’s notice, although not musical herself, she had had saxophone lessons, but the musical person of the family was Clare who could play the piano, play the recorder, the flute and sing beautifully.
They reached a gate cut into the hedge and went through, welcome to the Freudesheim, it means happy home you know,
“Flick, Lucy just called, she’s going down for an extra lesson and wants you to go too”, this was another blonde girl, she was taller than Frankie, but there was something about her that made her think she was younger, “Who’s this another visitor, well Mamma and Len are in the rose garden, like take her if you go and call her back”, with a quick grin she was off.
In the rose garden Joey was busy informing Len on the newest arrivals at the Chalet school, when her quick ears caught their approach,
“I see you’ve meet some of the family, I meant to send one of them to find you as Hilda was busy, you’re staying with us for the moment, the hotel has a case of the measles so welcome” she pushed a chair forward into which Francesca sat down, “This is the eldest of my family, Mrs Entwhisle, and a member of the staff too”.
“How old are you Francesca isn’t it, I’d say about twelve thirteen?” asked Len,
“Thirteen last May”, she had been told so much recently her head was in a spin
“Go and find Cecil, Phil, I last saw her in the Saal”, with a nod of her head she dashed off.
“Cecil, that’s an odd name I’ve never met someone of that name before”,
“No stranger than, than…” she stopped short and wrinkled up her nose as if trying to think of another name”
“Oh I didn’t mean anything by it, I’ve never heard of it before that’s all, is it short for some thing?” presuming this was Cecil herself,
“Cecilia Marya, named after Auntie Rob”
“Much prettier than mine and it suits you too!”
“What’s your then?”
“Francesca Mary” replied the owner with a hint of displeasure in her voice.
“Now that your acquainted, it’s more than likely you’ll be in the same form so why don’t you go off and have Kaffee and Kuchen together”,
Grabbing her hand Cecil lead of this new person, who she had been told to keep her eye on in her mother’s own way so that if she didn't she'd feel and complete and utter pig, at first it had seemed like a nuisance but already there was a clear sign of what the future held for these two…

Hope you enjoy this...

Clare was sitting by the window in her room, since her father’s death she and Frankie had not been parted for a length of time,
“Goody I thought you’d be up, you’re generally an early riser” Frankie had come as though she had known she was being thought about,
“You won’t be able to dash in here as you like when term begins, anyway won’t you be missed by the others and I’m glad you’ve found a friend”
“Ditto, you and Ferry seem chummy” Clare frowned at this nickname which her sister frequently used but said nothing, “Don’t come over all school marm with me term doesn’t being until tomorrow, I wont be miss Cecil has the dentist today so Mrs Maynard suggested I should come and unpack this morning and we can spend the afternoon together” picking up a hairbrush began to tidy her sisters hair like they had done when they were little girls.
For once since arriving at the Platz, Clare and Francesca managed to have a pleasant day just as sister, something that they won’t have for a long time to come not that either had a suspicion of what would happen.

Dressed in her uniform, her hair tided in two neat plaits, tidy with crimson bows, turned to check her cubicle was as it should be as like all member of the chalet school was in awe of Matron, descending the stairs Clare swelled with pride at the sight of her sister she was very different, she looked much happier than she had when she’d set out every morning for St Winifred’s, and she began to see a more grown-up side to her sister.
Arm in arm Cecil and Frankie stood waiting for to coaches to arrive, as they pulled up the drive Cecil gave a gentle squeeze to her new friends arm for reassurance, Frankie was about to enter Lower IV, Cecil was the form ahead, but it had been decided that Frankie’s Latin, French and Science weren’t up to standard to be in Upper IV, this had been a great disappointment to them both but Cecil was wise when it came to people a gift many had seen in her mother and elder sister Len,
“Don’t worry, your no dud if you pitch in you’ll soon move up and anyway we’re in dorm together, and you can’t muck around in lessons, you don’t dare rag some of the mistresses” and the talk had turned to other things including the new mistress.

The coaches pulling up overwhelmed Frankie, never before had she seen obedience for such a large number of girls so quickly. For the time begin all the senior middles were in the common room, before filing off into prayers, "At the end of prayers once the Catholic’s had entered the hall Miss Annersley rose, “At the end of prayers I would like to see the following girls please, Emily McKeer, Francesca Myers, Julie Morgan and Helen Williams in my study” a look of pure horror covered Frankie’s face, it couldn’t be, it wasn’t possible, how had she come to be at the chalet school.
“Come on you don’t keep the Abbess waiting” and was pulled to the study,
“Go straight in”
Knocking Frankie entered, sitting in-front of the desk was Helen, she leapt up and ran to embrace Frankie,
“Sit down girls, I have decided to move you into Upper IV Frankie and Helen said that she and you where old friends so I thought as you’re both new you could get Cecil to find someone to help her find her feet so to speak” Frankie nodded, laughing she added, “don’t look so worried you’ll be fine we’ve arranged for you to have extra coaching in your weaker subjects, but Julie and Emily can’t touch Upper IV work so you’ve be promoted, now I’m a very busy women off with you”.
They both stood and went to leave the room, Frankie hissing a warned to curtsey at the door to the head.
Cecil was outside still and danced a little gig when she heard the news, she was friendly with Helen, as it was an unofficial rule to make all new girls feel welcome, but there was something that had changed in her friend and she blamed this new girl for it.  Helen was unaware of this and had decided here too she would soon be a leader and take away Frankie’s close friends, just like she had done before if Frankie was still unwilling to follow her…

have you been reading "Problem", madam? ;)

Title: Re: Sister's at the chalet school

Actually i've been reading your copy of prefects ;D ;D,
i'd forgotten about Joan in Problem, but i think i'll have to re-read problem so not to risk playderisum :-/
but you know who Helen's basd on so i think things will take a very different turn.

*wishing plot bunnies would leave me alone, as DON'T like the things*
but as they've visited i'll continue...

Standing outside the door Clare waited for Upper IV to finish their French lesson, as Len walked out of the room she flashed a friendly grin at her, taking a deep breath she walked into the room,
“Good morning girls” she said in her most teacher like voice,
“Good morning Miss Buckley” the girls all chorused together, much to her relief Frankie had remembered and all her practising had paid off, her first class would have to contain her little sister, but at least it was English day and teaching in her native language gave her more confidence,
“I know last term you were all working on the French revolution, so I want to have a discussion this lesson so I can get an idea of where you had got to” as one they heaved a sigh of relief, they had thought the would be going over last times work and  that they would have to write an essay, “So who will begin” a forest of hands were waving at her, picking a girl in the second row with golden curls tied back from her face, “Amy, make a point and we’ll take it form there, but no shouting out hands up please”
The lesson was a success, for the majority of girls.  There new history mistress might as well be an old girl herself for the way she seemed to fit right into place, they had no idea that for four days before school began she had visited Mme Courvoisier an old girl as well as history, before and for a short time after her marriage for all the help she could get.
“Sez, you” Helen got no further,
“Who said that, no talking on the stairs whoever it was pay a fine for that piece of slang”,
“Please Lucy, it was Helen Williams, she’s new this term and didn’t know” Amy Stead was doing her best but she hadn’t been asked to sheep-dog the easiest of new girls,
“Alright, but for future reference to all new girls there’s a list of all forbidden slang in all three languages and if you’re caught using them will be fined, let this be a warning”, with which she turned to walk up and get her hankie as she had set out to do before catching the middles on the stairs.
“Bother all the prees are so on the spot” complained a short girl with a mop of short black hair, known as Sinead, whose accent told of her Irish origin
“You know as well as the rest of us that it’s because we had such a clear out last term, all the sub-prees became full blown prefects, so pipe down and let us get on with prep”, Belen with her new role as form prefect was doing her best to follow in her older sister’s footstep as Bianca Roca was head girl this term, and was loved by all for her fairness and general manner which meant that she was ‘a good sport’, but when the need arose could be a full head girl, and therefore had the respect of her peers.
That night when Frankie’s kneeled to say her prayers she was truly thankful, she had a close friend and for a new girl was already popular with most members of her form and Clare, she hadn’t seen Clare the way she was for, well ever if truth be told, Switzerland was the best places in the world as far as she was concerned.
No one in sunflower noticed the entrance of a figure that peeked between the curtains and bestowed a kiss on the top of Frankie’s head and stayed only a moment to stare at the moonlit face of the young girl before retiring to the staff quarters and settle for a good nights rest.

What lack of grammar Xanthe prehaps i should bring back one of schools luminous grammar signs for you when you go to cambridge...

only time for a little bit more now...

Frankie awoke early the next morning, she reached down for her slippers, but hesitated, Clare had said that she wasn’t allowed to visit anymore, dropping her slippers onto the floor brought a groan from a cubicle further down, she rolled over and near fell out of her bed, in doing so she hit her bureau, knocking her photo frame to the floor and into the next cubicle, Cecil turned over onto her other side, sometime had disturbed her but she didn’t wan to wake anyone so tried to get back to sleep, she let out a muffled squawk as she saw a hand stretching under the curtain of the next cubicle,
“Shut up you idiot, unless you want to rouse the whole dorm” Francesca spoke, in a low tone which Cecil had spent a good part of a week teaching to her as to not disturb other people and had been a shock to Clare to hear her sister for once in her life using moderate tones.
“Well you should be in bed not crawling round on the floor” her friend retorted,
Giggling she climbed back into her bed she still had half an hour before the rising bell.
A Frustuck the bell on the mistresses table was rung instant silence fell over the Spielsaal,
“After you’ve cleared away and have finished your dorm duties you must get ready for a walk” sitting back down Miss Annersley turned to Clare, “are you sure my dear that Frankie should not join you, we could create some excuse for her not going with the others if you would like her to go with you”, Clare shook her head,
“No I’m sure it can be a late Christmas present for her, when she returns in the new year if all goes well today I should have everything in place by then”.
“Frankie” this shortening having been picked up by all her form as they agreed that Francesca had been too long for everyday use, “will you take this note to Matron for me as you go up”, a request like this from Ferry couldn’t go ignored, but it did delay her in her rush to get upstairs again.
Having delivered the note se walked as quickly as she dared back along to Sunflower, when she reached it she wished she had risked running and therefore having been caught by one of the prees than what had happened.

Your wish is my command Lesley...

Jessica Yates was head of sunflower dorm, so when she checked all the cubicles after having gone down to Frustuck, she found a frame lying on the floor, not knowing who it belonged too, picked it up and put it on her bed for the time being.
Frankie had been so careful so far about what she had said about her family,
“Is this yours Francesca, be more careful it was lying on the floor and could have been broken” Jessica informed her handing it back, muttering what was presumed to be a thank you and apology she raced through all that had to be done, avoiding looking and answering question from her peers,
Cecil wished that Amy hadn’t booked her to be her partner, she was determined to find the answers to her questions, but they were told to lead off and Frankie was right at the back, pair with Helen.  If they had been closer she would have court the look of angst as Frankie caught sight for her sister walking off down the lane,
“I bet you’re dying of curiosity”, gulping she thought that may be she had been found out as before she had never bothered over what Helen had or hadn’t known, “well aren’t you going to ask why I came her?” with a sigh of relief,
“Oh yes is suppose so” try to sound interested was beyond her right now, if Belen and Katie hadn’t been behind she would have tried to slip off and follow Clare, but she was stuck listening to Helen ramble on.  Rolling her eyes, “That’s lucky isn’t it I’m sure you must have been surprised, after all you were going to be head of the middle school at St Wini’s”
“Darling, that little place means nothing St Winifred’s is a school for little girls, with no ambition”,
“Suits you then” Frankie thought, “you’ve never done a days work in your life”
Recalled to the fact they were dawdling and breaking of ranks had been called was only noticed as Sinead came up to pull Helen the new leader of that group of with them and Cecil to Frankie, but unusually she came alone have hinted to the others she wanted time alone with Frankie.
Walking on ahead of the others Cecil stopped and pulled Frankie down onto a nearby rock,
“We’re not moving until I get the truth from you, the whole story miss” Cecil was at her most determined, she had always felt slightly alone at home, she was either side of the twins, they always had company with each other, sure they would include her in their games, but there was a bond between them that she had always felt, since Frankie had come there had been a bond, and amongst their won form had become know as ‘the twins’ as not only did the have similar looks, but characteristics and mannerisms too.
Resting her chin on in her hands Frankie looked down at the stream gently following by them, “Well I can’t say really I’d need to talk to someone else before, it’s a family matter, that’s why I was jumpy earlier nothings wrong”, as a worried look appeared on her friends face, “but if I can tell you I will and I’ve so been wanting to, but I promised…” her she nearly said Clare, but she was unsure how much the other girls new about their new history mistress.
“TWINS, where are you, we’ve got to turn back” Bel and some others were calling at full volume, hoping that no one else was around, “Oh there you are if you’ve finished your chat or not, Bi said we must come and call back all those in front, come on the weathers going to turn in a bit, but I guess you knew that already Cecil, what with you being and expert on the Platz would be able to get out of the way quick enough”, with this final note she turned to run back and join the end of the line.  Not to be outdone with this latest bit of cheek Cecil and Frankie jumped up to run after them all, Frankie never had really bothered with sport until she had gone to the chalet school so paced herself to match her friends speed so when they reached the others their cheeks were glowing,
“Next time you wander off stay within calling distance Cecil, you know better than that”, turning to call to the front of the line “quick pace please girl, I don’t want an early shower thank you very much” and that was the end of their walk.

Xanthe, next time she tries to pat you on the shoulder, move back, and then ask her very firmly not to invade your personal space.

If she calls you 'Good girl' again, simply stare at her and then say, 'Now look here, my good woman, I'm tired of your speaking to me as if I'm a child. Don't do it again, thank you.' Then walk away.

It should shut her up. She may even apologise. If she throws a hissy fit, just look at her until she shuts up. Silence can be a very effective weapon.

She has no right to treat a professional colleague as a silly little inferior.

Just a littl ebit for now...

“What’s up, you all look like a long wet weekend, sure that weathers depressing but you’ve all, well” Helen had coined this new phrase and used it at every opportunity, but thanks to dawdling on the walk back had got a little wet and been in the schools san so not to risk spreading her sniffles,
“Tis nor our fault” Sinead was putting on her thickest Irish accent possible,
“Auf Deutsch, Sinead, hast du vergessen dass heute Donnerstag ist?“
„Erm... es ist nicht meiner Problem, es hat geregnet und dass ist langweilig” this was the best she could manage having the second pree descend on you from nowhere often made them forget important words.
„Warum bist du nicht in dem Halle es ist Pause?“
„Entschuldigung, wir haben dem Zeit vergessen“ with this they went, not wanting any grammar or pronunciation corrected.

maybe more later if you're all good ;D

Try it, she may be all mouth, and counting on her reputation. Just do it, and if she starts on, walk away.

You can always put in an official, written complaint to someone senior to her. The point is that you are professional colleagues, and she should treat you  with respect for the work that you do.

Having just left several members of upper Iv including stormy perils such as  Sinead O’Conner and Ada Forster to wonder if they had any skin left on them for having been caught having a water fight in the splashery, it was unfortunate that next lesson she took her temper out on lower IV who as far as she was concerned seemed to have forgotten all about conditions in the tropics and ICTZ’s.
“It’s all upper IV’s fault Ferry’s in such a mood, she caught them being silly at the end of break” stated Emily McKeer.  A feud had begun, not that upper IV had a clue as to what was happening.
It started on the following Monday, when Amy ended up with Braith Harrod from Inter V’s hockey stick and when she found her to return it was receiving a lecture Bernie couldn’t have better from Darice Simmons, the games pree, returning to her crowd, cheeks flushed and eyes glowing.  It was Wednesday when things came to ahead, nearly the whole form had been in some sort of trouble with either a mistress or a pree, and much to her discomfort Frankie had ended up in trouble with Clare.  Upper and Lower IV joined together for their singing lesson in the afternoon with Plato.  When he called for them to turn to page three in tier song books and about half the class began to sing the wrong thing disaster struck..  Plato who had joined with the school after ill health, had woken that morning slightly unwell, and his temper on edge, this had been the final straw and had flung his music on the floor and stalked out of the room.  After having to apologies to their singing master upper IV had to wait to vent their feeling in the safety of their common room.
Zizi Hudson was first, “Well which little darlings do you suppose have been swapping book covers on us?”
Adsila O’Dea, better known as Blossom amongst her own crowd knew, but Cecil got in first,
“It was Elise Barrett and Christina Bailey for a ducat”,
“Has to be did you see their faces when Plato let rip” ventured Frankie,
A mummer of agreement went round the form.
On a walk round the garden with her closest friends Lucy Peters and Darice Simmons Flixy showed why she was slated for next head girl, “Those middles are ripe for mischief or my names not Felicity Mary Maynard”.

*giggles*

thing is - she is VERY VERY senior and pals with highly senior people & as she and her little pal ignored the last letter I sent them (pointing out I was not best pleased at their informing the County Commissioner and County Outdoor Activities Advisor that I'm a self-harming anorexic) and seemingly, so did the County Comm, as I copied it to her and the COA and haven't heard anything... & I actually don't want to stir it that much as, up until fairly recently, I liked and admired and indeed trusted her *pulls a wry face*

I suspect it'll take something fairly drastic to get her to realise I'm a grown-up type person these days (flaming dog poo anyone?) but maybe things will improve when I go off to Uni *said optimistically*

Xanthe, if you're feeling assertive, tackle her yourself ....

Might be worth keeping a diary or notes of dates and events when she belittles you etc, including the ones that may seem minor in isolation because it's the cumulative effect that's the problem - when you've got a few stored up, ask to see her privately for a few minutes and then talk her through them - what she said and how it made you feel and how you'd like to be treated in future - i.e. with respect

If you've got all the facts at your fingertips you won't be umming and aahing and she won't be prepared so you'll have the upper hand to put your point view across. It's also an extremely mature, "adult" way to address the situation - and if that doesn't work, you'd be well within your rights to lodge an official written complaint about how the woman's impossible to work with

(I suspect she's threatened by you and much of it stems from jealousy because she recognises you're brighter, more competent etc)

See. we're all behind you Xanthe! If you are not a self-harming anorexic, you are entitled to take legal action against anyone who has called you so, to your detriment.
Try telling them this, they may change their attitudes towards you.

Um, none... especially without notifying me of her intentions first as I'm an over-eighteen... and she can hardly claim she considered me to be significantly at risk (which is when you can intervene anyhow) or a significant risk which are the reasons for passing on that sort of thing.

Thing is, it's a bit of a grey-area given that I'm still under 26 and thus Senior Section... That and no one ever argues with her.

However, if she was (as I suspect) trying to get me stoped from doing my Pack Holiday Licence (she'd already had one bash at this earlier in the year, it transpires, claiming that my physical health wasn't good enough) she failed... (haven't got Licence yet as things being verified etc, but should get it as have completed, if that makes any sense at all!)

Though just to clarify, the evil-letter-of-doom was in fact written by Jenni-Lesley's-henchwoman; who was running the Swiss trip.  But methinks was something of a joint effort in all probability.

Worst thing is the whole "huge breach of trust" aspect of this.  Very very ouch.

Xanthe, if you are to continue working with these people something should be done, for your sake. The idea of keeping a diary and then confronting them with it is a good one, I would also add, have someone with you as an independant witness, to confirm what you say if things need to be taken any further, and after that meeting make a record of what was said and both sign it, get J-L to sign it too if possible.

The easiest thing for you would be if you could transfer your guiding to Cambridge totally, but not knowing much about guide I don't know how possible that is, or if it would be practical for you.

If J-L have written about you to the guides association I would have thought you would have the right to ask to see a copy of the letters and to make a reply. It might be good in this case to get your GP to back up what you say, if you have a friendly GP of course.

Whatever you decide, you know we will all be behind you, supporting you through every step.

Chloe, sorry that your story has been overtaken by this, but do continue the story. It has been interesting so far.

Xanthe - the fact u are senior section has nothing to do with it!  If u are over 18 which u are ? then this woman has no right to disclose any info about u to other Guiders (no matter what their ranking) I hope it works out. Maybe coming back in your uni breaks will help although saying that my district still see me as a 4 y/o sometimes despite me being 25 with a warrant and appt card etc etc.

Chloe - enjoying your story, definitely want to see more :)

Xanthe - I have only just caught up withthis and agree with everyone else that this woman has behaved in an appalling manner.  And the fact that you previously respected her is bound to make it all so much worse.
Personally I wouldn't want to threaten legal action because a) It would be wildly expensive, and b) The defence would try to prove what was said was true and therefore start digging aroound i your private life.  The diary idea is a good one though, if you can handle it, speaking as someone who has funked similar situations in the past in favour of hiding in the corner and comfort eating, I know that it can be daunting when you're not naturally assertive.
I hope that you manage to get something sorted out, but as you are evidently a much better person than she is, hopefully other people will realise what is going on.

Xanthe, I've just had a thought! (yes, I know, rare occurence and all that!! I'll get in and say it before anyone else! ::) ::))
Anyway, my thought; It's highly possible that the fact that this situation is obviously preying on your mind, may actually be either causing, or exacerbating, your collapses and asthma attacks! If you're upset about something, it can show itself in strange ways! If this is the case, then J&L's harrassment of you is adversely affecting your health, and I'm sure you could lodge a complaint about them on those grounds!
(Bearing in mind that I've had no dealings with the guide organisation since leaving brownies at 10 or so!!!!!)

Thanks everyone  ;D

I don't, on the whole, have too much to do with J&L, and evidently, this will be further diminished when I go off to Uni.

It's quite good to get some external confirmation that they were mean&nasty though, and I appreciate the advice!

The whole thing is made even worse by the fact that the Guider I do Brownies and Guides with is another of the Senior Section Advisors, and very fond of J&L, & does not believe they can actually do any wrong.

Really, the whole thing was just really really awful and I want to put it in the past (and make it stay there!) BUT will be prepared to kick butt if they ever try to pull something like this again...

Apologies for hijacking of thread excepted, so much so i've dedcided to post a bit more which i've had written for about four days but decided reading about xan was fun for a little while...
here goes...

“You’re going straight back up to bed” Matey was at her most fierce, “You came up here on strict instructions and if you don’t go , you’ll not be fit for anything this half term”
Turning meekly Clare didn’t even protest at the manner in which was treated,
“How can she know, I’ve barely seen her yet she knew straight away I didn’t feel totally fit this morning” she thought,
“Well who’s able to cover her little darlings wasn’t it Upper IV this afternoon, and what about Frankie?”
“Who” came a chorus of all those in the staff room,
“Oh haven’t you heard” letting out a  little laugh, “I believe Cecil pitched on it, and you know how most of them look up to her so amongst her own crowd and even other forms know Francesca is known as Frankie and little else from all I hear” Nancy turned to go and seek IIIb for there math’s lesson, various other member of staff where recalled to their duty and departed.
Walking into Upper IV’s form room, they all look startled as Miss Buckley wasn’t seated at the mistress’s desk; Frankie gave a deep gulp and whitened slightly, only Cecil noticed,
“Well girls I believe that you are currently studying aspects of the Victorian era with Miss Buckley at the moment”, looking up she caught sight of Cecil waking her hand madly in the air, and “What of earth is the matter Cecil, why are you waving your arm like that you’ll knock something over at that rate and that includes Francesca”, the whole form chuckled at this comment, reddening Cecil continued,
“It’s just… well is everything ok, alright I mean with Buc...” quickly correcting herself “Miss Buckley I mean”
“Yes she’s fine, she’s just watching her health, and she should be back in school in a day or two” Cecil wasn’t looking in Miss Dene, instead she was searching her friends face to see if this news effected her like Miss Buckley’s absence had.
Waiting for Kaffee and Kuchen with Cecil and Blossom, Frankie was trying her hardest to not let on that something was bothering her, but after spending nearly half a term with the other two they could see straight away something was troubling her,
“What’s up, a problem shared, is a problem halved, you know”,
“Oh nothing like the end of the world or as drastic as that”,
But Cecil seemed to be like a dog with a bone although she had let the matter of the photo frame go for the time being,
“Well if it’s only a small matter then we wont bother you” with which she turned slightly to walk towards another group with members of Upper IV and Inter V,
“If you must know I wanted to know why we call Blossom, Blossom nothing that interesting really” this wasn’t true for the moment but it was something she had thought about,
“That can be easily answered” the owner of the name answered, “every name has a meaning and as I found Adsila too difficult to say when I was little and it sort of stuck, only the prees and mistress’s call me by my proper name”,
The conversation topic wandered here and later if you had asked Frankie what it had been she couldn’t have answered you for love or money.
At the first opportunity she snuck along to her sisters room, opening the door she stopped dead…

Luckily for you my plot bunny feels sorry for you all (well Jennie for not being able/allowed to eat chocolate biscuits, but not Xanthe for the ratbag comment or Vikki for the throttling one)...

Having over heard the conversation at Kaffee and Kuchen, a plan had formed,
Walking into the form room she wasted no time,
“Cecil darling, do you know how long she’ll be?” Helen began, staring up from her book,
“Am I supposed to know who you are referring too?” a slight tone in her voice made Helen waver, should she continue, yet she must, she had made herself a promise and she would not let it go,
“Oh, I thought you knew my mistake, Frankie must not have told you”, this had the effect she had wanted,
“What’s that supposed to mean Helen, I haven’t a clue what you mean, Frankie’s business is her own and I don’t pry”, normally well tempered Cecil could even rival her elder sister Margot when her temper was roused and she’d had enough of this new girl who had made it her business to try and lead everyone, Helen couldn’t help but to redden slightly at this insinuation,
“It’s not my fault, just because Frankie confides more in me than you, I bet you don’t even know where your so called twin is at the moment” with which she turned and stalked out form the common room, the seed had been planted and now watered.
Leaving the room Cecil went in search for somewhere quiet to be, she remembered a small room in which another of the triplets had often occupied when she had been a member of the Chalet School, it was only a small room near the library, but it would certainly allow her to be alone,
“What do I know, when it comes to it I know very little, perhaps I was too quick, I did jump on Helen a bit” here she paused to think, “she’s a brother, and a sister, she receives letters from both, though I’ve no idea where they’re from, but that’s it.  I want to know more I’ve left the business over that photo frame, but it’s not on” her thought process never got any further.
Before departing home Len had decided to hunt up a book from the library and it was just by chance she noticed the light coming form under the door as it was gone twenty-two and that nearly all of the resident staff where in the staff room, her first thought flew to middles up to mischief, when she swung open the door to be surprised with the sight of a frowning younger  sister and she also noted at the same time that she wouldn’t have believe that she could look so ugly when she pulled a face.
“What are you doing, do you know what time it is” Cecil shook her mop of curls, “well after you should have been in bed, off with you, no” as Cecil began to speak, “I’ll come early tomorrow and speak with you then, and don’t you dare wake anyone else”,
as it had happened she had not been missed, Jessica the head of sunflower had been taken to the school San with an upset stomach and so far no one had yet reached Sunflower, this time she just made it under her covers before Matey made her rounds.

Chloe (and Xanthe) I sympathise with both of you.  My dad remarried a woman whom my brother and I do not much care for (nor do we really care for her kids - my step brother and step sister).  He married about 2 years after my mum died which felt really soon.
The only thing I can suggest is that if she makes your dad happy, then you don't have to like (just put up with her).  My dad's wife makes him happy, which makes me happy so I just tolerate her (and her kids).

(((((Chloe & Xanthe)))))

Speaking from other side of the coin, being someone who (eventually) married kids father after living together for quite a long while, it can be pretty tough all round, I don't think I'm horrible, but I probably wasn't always as nice as I should have been either, then again, I suppose I wasn't much more than a kid myself when we first met. Only 10 yrs older than the child in fact, I did try not to try to come between father and daughter but have to confess that jealousy occasionally got the better of me.  It probably didn't help, either, that both me and stepdaughter are a bit shy and reticent - and I certainly didn't live up to her mothers standards of housekeeping!
I hasten to add, that now we've all grown up somewhat, we all seem to get on very well.

I suppose the consolation is that at least you won't have to see too much of her, although you won't get to see much of your dad either.

At least you and Xanthe seem to have a really strong relationship, so you do have one another, and you have your brother too, even if he does hog the bathroom!

My plot bunny came back from his holiday to cheer me up, and thanks for the surport from the rest of you...

Frankie had been awake when her friend crept upstairs, she had also heard Matey’s steps so as she was checked on she simply closed her eyes and rolled onto her side.  Early the next morning she slipped out of bed, went swiftly to her bathroom, back and into her clothes, she peeped between the curtains and saw Cecil sitting up in bed reading her book, slipping through speaking in a low tone so not to disturb the other members of her dorm,
“I’ve got to go and see someone, don’t worry I’ve got permission can you tell Jess for me, I speak to you properly later” Cecil nodded her head and gave her friends plait a friendly tug, she too had to see someone, but for that she must wait until after Frustuck.
Walking almost silently Frankie hurried along the passages and into the Annexe; nervously she tapped on the door,
“Enter” came the voice from within, whatever she may have expected it wasn’t to be greeted with laughter, “My dear girl what is it with your family and that expression when they enter my room, your sister looked exactly the same way the first time I meet her”, looking up the was a kindness in the blue eyes which caused her to relax a little.
“Please, I’m very sorry but well I just had too, it’s only to be expected isn’t it I needed her, and more to the point she needed me” Frankie was speaking so quickly that Miss Annersley only understood half of what was said, but understood it’s meaning.
“Sit down and I’ll call for breakfast shall I, I know it’s a bit early for a Saturday morning but we must at least have a cup of coffee”.  It was Karen herself who brought up the tray, she had heard all about the situation and had felt sorry for the girl especially after having been caught like that.  She placed the tray down and turned with a brief smile at Frankie departed.
“Now why don’t you explain yourself”, it was now very much the Abbess addressing Frankie, she stared down at her shoes, with what may of her fellow class mates would have called a ‘hang-dog expression’ as she spoke,
“It was just that she didn’t turn up to class and I was worried, so as soon as I could I slipped off from the others and made my way to Clare’s room, I never expected...”
“To find anyone else there, that much was evident, yet you did not bother to stop and think, not only did you enter the staff quarters which you know is out of bounds to all girls, and that if something had happened such as a fire so we needed to know where you were we would have been unable to find you, putting not only your own but others lives at risk” she paused here to let her words sink in before she continued, “most of all you broke your word, you had promised Miss Buckley that you would not rush off and risk others finding out you are sisters” this had it’s intended effect, the words stung as she heard them and flinched slightly.
Summoning her courage to look into her head mistress’s eyes “But I hadn’t been told, I was told with everyone else and she my sister”
“If had indeed been serious with all our years with such close links with the Sanatorium do you not think that if it had been serious we would have told you separately” sipping from her cup she continued, “I have spoken with Dr Jack and Clare this morning, Clare is going to go to the San for a few weeks for some tests and a small operation, she goes today, half term you will spend with the Maynard’s as planned and at Christmas will return home”,
“Without Clare I take it”, she Miss Annersley nod she continued in a very formal manner not suited to her normal happy self, “in that case I must insist I speak with Clare and depending on what she says with you again”,
“Very well, once she is awake you may go and see her, but do not tire her or you’ll have Matey and Dr Jack to deal with”.

Saturday had marked the start of half term, Upper Iv had been planned to visit the Lauterbrunnen area, only Cecil who had often been there in the holidays was not going and now Francesca was to stay behind,
“It’s a pity you two are staying behind, it would have been a wizzer of a time if we’d all been going, but I don’t know why you left it so late to invite someone and why only one” with a shrug of her shoulders and a toss of her blonde hair Amy boarded the coach,
“Mamma sure surprised me earlier when she said you were coming to us, don’t get me wrong I’m glad to have someone my age around and we’re great chums and all, but normally she’s have asked who I wanted, not that it wouldn’t have been you” she hurriedly added,
“Can we go somewhere quiet I’ve got something to tell you” Cecil’s heart leapt at this sentence she had known Frankie was hiding something and if she only knew she was sure she could help as Frankie had seemed unhappy at not sharing it with anyone.   They walked back into the school grounds and sat in the summer house,
“I’m not to sure where to begin” she had palnned what she was going to say over and over again in her mind but somehow it was harder looking Cecil in the face for real,
“I recommend the beginning if you want me to understand something” this friendliness eased the matter form her,
“Ok but no interruptions or I wont tell you” Cecil hushed for the time being Frankie was able to start, “The most important part is I’ve wanted to tell you since the start of term at first I thought that you may only have been friendly as I was the only one who you’re your age, but when you carried on when we started school I was desperate to tell you, but I didn’t see Clare, well not unofficially so didn’t have the chance” she paused for breath, as seeing the confusion on her friends face burst into fits of laughter, Cecil couldn’t hold her tongue any longer,
“If that’s your explanation I must say it’s a, a load of tosh and…”
“Where on earth did you get tosh from and I you shouldn’t pull faces if you don’t want me to laugh” Frankie retorted
“Overheard Steve using it thought it was rather nifty and I wasn’t meaning to pull faces, please carry on”
“The main reason I’m allowed to tell you is Clare’s going for and op. tonsils and something else out”
“Adenoids, but who’s Clare”
“Oh didn’t I say my heads all muddled Clare’s Miss Buckley, my sister” her voice swelled with pride
“But, gosh, golly, I mean you’re nothing alike, oh darling it’s all so much clearer now” with which she flung herself on Frankie knocking her to the floor,
“If you’ve finished trying to kill her Cecil, she has somewhere to be” said a voice from behind
“Mamma, do you, of course you do, Auntie Hilda isn’t likely to keep you in the dark, may I go to if it’s to the San I’ll go and see Reg, the old ugly mug’s not doing a good job as a brother-in-law, I’ve not had a glimpse of him since the start of term”.

Grrr wont let me post all in one...

They set off arm in arm along the road towards the San,
“Something I don’t understand though you explained about the reason why you didn’t want everyone to know and all that, but why has she not had the op before, normally kids do not adults?”
“Well aren’t you a walking talking question mark, the truth is I have no clue, she was going to have it but Mother got worse and then died and I guess with everything going on it slipped Papa’s mind” with which she went of into a pearl of laughter,
“What’s so funny, share the joke, don’t be so mean, or, or I’ll shake you right here and now”, whipping the tears from her eyes Frankie explained
“One question you’ve not asked is why are names are different she’s Buckley-Myers and I’m just Myers”
“I thought that she choose to use the Buckley part and you the Myers”
“You’re wrong their I arrived early by over a month, and I was a surprise to everyone and they hadn’t even finalized a name yet, and Papa had a thing about registering us all on the day we were born, and he was in such a fluster he never noticed until sometime later my birth certificate just said Myers as my surname” at which point they pared, Cecil to her brother-in-law and Frankie to her sister.

If you mean is it likely that adults could need an op for tonsils and adenoids - yes it is - and it is far more serious than if they have it done as a child - risk of severe bleeding!

I'm not much wiser than you when it comes to medical matters Chloe, but I do remember having tonsilitis really badly a coupke of years ago, I ignored it to start with because I thoght it was just the aftermath of a cold but I ended up feeling worse than I've ever felt in my life, either before or since.  The doctor pescribed double doses of antibiotics for the first two or three days, but it still took a while before I felt 'normal' again.
It wasn't so much the sore throat as the total lethargy. I remember laying in bed with the portable TV and not having the energy to press the button on the remote control.
Needless to say, the minute I get a sore throat these days I'm on the phone to the doctor begging for antibiotics!

It was the third day of half term, they had gathered at the breakfast table; Jack was busy dividing up the mail bag,
“Flick pass those along to your mother, two for you, these are all mine, business by the look of them all, Phil’s had better go somewhere safe until she gets back form her visit to Winifred, Cecil my pet three for you and four for you Frankie”,
Frankie dropped her knife at this Joey began to protest about her clean cloth being spoiled already but stopped short,
“Jack did you say this all came via the post, but this has no stamp and I don’t know the writing?” grinning across from the other end of the table he said nothing, the door opened an in walked someone Frankie had never known but looked familiar to her somehow,
“Con, Con darling when did you arrive and why are you here, I thought you would be unable to get here before the nativity play at the earliest?”
“I would but Roger said he would be fine alone and I needed  a break for the Tirensee, so here I am and you’ll fined my family in the nursery already in Anna’s hands”,
“All three, babies, goody I haven’t seen my nephew yet” with which Phil ran from the breakfast table,
“Frankie let you introduce Mrs. Con Richardson, the second oldest of my siblings, I take it you spent the night at Len’s as you know all to well not to make a journey like that in one go with little ones, and when I mean little one’s Frankie I mean little one’s, Esmie and Loo are only two and Will’s only two and a bit months”
“What did you call your niece?, Don’t you dare start, for that remark you don’t deserve to see them and don’t let Roger hear that nickname I wont be held responsible for his actions”, Frankie was totally confused Con took pity on her and sat down to explain,
“This brat is calling my second eldest Chloë Loo as if you hadn’t noticed we go in for shortening names, I’m really Mary Constance, Len’s really Mary Helena and our other triplet’s Mary Margaret, and when the twins were first born Cecil tried to create shortenings for them both, Esmeralda became Esmie and Chloë became Clo, though it’s already short enough already understand?”
“Yes, but where does Lou fit in”

*waits to give you the answer to the question ;D*

Chloe, the op for Tonsils and adenoids is more serious in adults. Greater risk of bleeding, and the throat tissues don't heal as quickly.

Also, a longer recuperation time.

That said, more please.

As others have said op for tonsils etc is more dangerous for adults than children.  Also, it hurts like ****.  I had my tonsils out just over a year ago.  Having a baby wasn't nearly as bad as having tonsils removed! :)

Title: Re: Sister's at the chalet school

As i promised my "study" periods were very constructive today...

“That’s easy the shortening for Wassercloset, what the Swiss sometimes us for toilet is Clo in some parts” to which she went off into a pearl of laughter.
"Oh and an American or English way for shortaning toilet is to call it a loo, I understand now"
“Cheeky brat, Mamma you need to teach these youngsters more manners” with which she kissed her sisters mop of curls and left.  Only Joey noticed Frankie dash her hand across her eyes before finishing her roll.
They had planned to go to Grindelwald and up the Pfinsteig, Frankie had cried off the expedition as soon as she had got up with a headache, which Joey had a suspicion was not as bad as they were being lead to believe.  She been questioning whether or not she should stay behind and with Con and her family descending into their presence had made up her mind to remain.  But Jack was firm.
“No Joey, Con has to stay William needs his mother too much, she can see to Francesca if there’s a problem and can deal with their rooms, not forgetting Len’s close by and Anna’s at home if she needs extra help, no excuses!” with which as she remarked later was almost bundled into Minnie and they set off.  Hanging out of her window franticly waving to her friend Cecil called out,
“Adieu mes amies, Je t’amenerai du chocolat quand je rends” before Felicity pulled her sharply back down onto her seat,
“Merci beaucoup et J’espere que un bon voyage” Frankie called back in a surprisingly pretty French accent,
“If you can speak like that all the time, next time Clare hears your French she wont recognize who’s speak” came a voice from behind,
“Mrs. Entwhisle, I…I” a surprise visit from her languages teacher was too much of a shock for Frankie,
“Leave off Len, it’s the hol’s, give the girl a break, and as you’re here you can make yourself useful” with which Con lead them back into the house.
“Please Mrs. Richardson, what can I do to help?” Frankie felt slightly nervous left alone in the house with two married ladies and their children,
“First of all you can drop the Mrs. Whatever; we’re Con and Len to you…”
“But only in the holidays in term time I’m Mrs. Entwhisle” Len interrupted,
“Yes well from all Cecil said, you to are more like sisters than friends and until eleven o’clock you must go and lie down in your room, depending on how your head is then you may join us for elevens, and we’ll see how things go from there.”
In the room she shared with Cecil she tossed and turned for what seemed like hours, but when Len came up to check on her as promised she found her curled up fast asleep on her bed, she closed the door chuckling to herself at her mother’s reaction if she saw the state of Francesca’s clothes when she got up again.

For the record, I've never heard an American or Canadian use the term 'loo', unless they are an ex-pat Brit, spent a lot of time in Britain, just finished watching a Brit film, or are making fun of the British.

'U' is unbelievably bad, Chelsea, actually it stands for 'Ungraded', meanig it was so bad that the examiner couldn't be bothered to waste his time marking it!

I'm not sure if it's still used these days, the examination system has changed since Lesley & I were at school. It used to be that if you were brainy you did 'O' levels, if you were not so acedemic you took GCE, but if you got a grade 1 GCE it counted as an 'O' level.
Today there is one exam - GCSE, of which grades A -C are the equivalent to the old 'O' level.  I thinkit goes down to about grade G, but there are other people who would know more about that than me.

Glad to hear you'd never make fun of the British,
no mostly it's a joke among some of my friends (who were there when i was writing it) we taught it to some Americans we meet and someone gave them the wrong meaning of it (and i got choosen to correct them) and now you see we have a whole group of americans who use it as think it's cool and different :-/

Now xan's finished been strange for the moment and signing herself in as Me!. I'll continue with the story...

“Ssshhhhh Clo must not ‘ake Auntie Ca” a small voice stirred Francesca from her slumbers, standing at the foot of her bed were two small girls she had not meet before, resting her chin in her hands she spoke to them,
“Hello, who are you?”
“Me Esmie, dis Clo we twins” Frankie remembered and laughed the younger girls stared at her, they had heard their mummy laugh but this was different slightly strange,
“How’d you do, I’m Francesca Myers, a … a friend of your Aunt Cecil’s”
“Mamma said you now Auntie…”
“I wondered why the nursery was so quiet, sneaking out of there was very wrong and look you woke Francesca up, didn’t I say you had to be quiet good little girls as she wasn’t very well” they turned and stared up at Mamma, she was firm in her tone, they had been left alone for only a minute but decided to look at this new person they had yet to meet,
“It’s alright Con I was awake, they were just introducing themselves, they’re a lot like you” Con’s face relaxed and smiled,
“Well I’d better take these two back for lunch and then a nap whilst you get changed and come down for lunch” as she surveyed Frankie frock, “I don’t want my girls to pick up any bad habits” taking a hand of either girl she turned and walked along the corridor.
Frankie stood in front of the full length mirror, she remembered the day Clare had told her about their moving to the Platz, laughing she finished her changing and went downstairs,
“Well at least your clothes are in a better condition, but your hair is all over the place” smoothing it with her hands Frankie took her place at the table,
“After the twins nap I usually take them for a walk how about we walk them towards the San and I’ll leave you to visit Clare and Reg can bring you back” Frankie smiled and nodded as her mouth was too full of food,
“What will Clare say Cecil seems to have taught you her table manners?” Len added with a chuckle, somehow Frankie began to understand the difference the chalet school had to St Winifred’s, she thought it impossible, but she loved it here more than anywhere else in the world.

Title: Re: Sister's at the chalet school
Post by Chloe on Oct 17th, 2003, 6:10pm
I got a bit bored with tech work and ended up with this, (which my teacher
said was good, especially as somehow I seemed to be up to dated with my work)
so here’s a bit mire if anyone’s still reading this drabble…

The room was a small one a size that Clare was unused to she had always been
surrounded by all her things and never spent much time away from home when she
was ill but the biggest difference she noticed was Francesca was missing.
“Now Miss Buckley-Myers are you ready for today, and is there any chance we
could shorten that length name of yours I can’t keep this up during your
recovery?”  Dr Entwhisle had been given a lecture, which he vowed made him
feel sorry for any pupil who got on the wrong side of his wife.
It had been after Len’s fourth visit to her friend when she noted how all the
doctors and nurses still addressed Clare as Miss, she new they were only being
formal as she was new to the school but Len had always been good at reading
people and she made a mental note to have a word with her husband about making
Clare feel more like a member of the school.
“Len and the rest of the staff call me Clare is that short enough for you?”
Clare grinned more like a schoolgirl than a mistress of the chalet school, but
it vanished off her face as a stranger entered the room.
“Clare may I introduce you to our newest student doctor, Mr Basely-Walker,
he’s assigned to me and will do simple checks on all my patients, so you’ll be
seeing lots of him”
“Please to meet you Miss Buckley-Myers” he spoke in a most formal manner
“And you too Dr Basely-Walker” there was something about this man that made
Clare uptight about how she addressed him.  It was true she had hoped the
other doctors would be less formal, but she was unsure about something to do
with this new man, she was uncertain of what, but she would find out why and
do her best to keep her distance in the mean time.
“Dr Entwhisle would you be kind enough to hang onto this letter for me?”
glancing down he saw a letter addressed to Francesca and began to reply, but
Clare was prepared, “I know that it’s more than likely that I will recover
fully from my operation, but there is always a chance and since mother died we
became incredibly close and when our brother left for America Francesca and I
have never been separated, she knows he is family and loves him dearly, but he
is a stranger to her and I had a few thoughts and news arrived this morning
which made me think that if I wasn’t here Frankie might find things all too
different and then would feel I broke my promise to her” reluctantly Reg
agreed they had hoped that Clare wouldn’t think along those lines, but it was
obvious she had and all he could do was take the letter and put it in his
pocket, he turned and walked towards the door where Dr Basely-Walker had
remained hovering,
“Clare has only been with us a short while but she must have this operation
she can never return to England unless she does and even after must only stay
for short periods of time, that climate has never suited her I don’t fully
understand why she remained there as long as she did”
“I see, but why are you being treated as a delivery man with her post to his
Francesca girl?”
“That is simple Frankie is her younger sister and a prominent member of Upper
IV along with one of my sister-in-law’s as they are inseparable and it’s just
as a precaution they’ve always been so close ands it’s a simple request to
comply with” up until now Dr Basely-Walker had seemed an agreeable fellow,
this manner of his was suddenly noticeable and Reg had to wonder if Jack
Maynard had made a mistake by taking on this student as Reg and other doctors
had begun to speculate that this exceptional student would be offered a
permanent position as soon as his degree was complete.

The weather had taken a change by the afternoon setting out with Esmeralda and Chloë Frankie felt very important, Con walked along side the pram chatting happily and re-telling old stories, with a side glance Frankie noticed how much Cecil and Con looked, she could imagine Cecil as the same age of Con and wondered if they would still be firm friends then,
“Hi, I’m supposed to be the dreamy one, you’ll tip them out if you carry on like that and I’d like my children to remain in tact if you don’t mind!”
“Well the proud Mamma comes to pay us a visit, Len said you’d arrived, come in and give us a peak, Hilary can show you her latest effort” a tinted Irish accent called,
“Biddy, Biddy I though you were away until New Year!”
“With Hilary’s girl arriving early and all her crowd I couldn’t say away, Eugene had to come back on business anyway and it’s not like I was leaving family behind” Frankie had not meet the former History mistress yet as she had gone on a surprise holiday to her old home in Ireland, just before they had the chance to meet,
“We were on our way to the San, maybe on the way back we could call in?” Con knew that Frankie wanted to see her sister,
“I know my way to the San I can manage the rest of the way by myself and then call in and join you two on the way back” Frankie didn’t want to seem rude so added quickly, “that is if you don’t mind and you’ll have a lot to catch up on I’m sure”
Tilting her head backwards Biddy let out a light and golden laugh, “Tis a strong bond between you and Clare, be off with you, but not to long mind”
Frankie kissed the twins goodbye, who seemed most put out at not getting to spend more time with Auntie Ca, but just like Joey Con was already training her children to be obedient and promised that Francesca would read a story to them at bedtime.  Francesca ran with all the speed she could muster, she had seen little of her sister and wanted as long with her as possible, the San was insight as a gust of wind blew Frankie’s hat off her head making her turn slightly to grab the ah, as she did not want to have to explain to Clare why she need some money or why she had come to visit her with out her hat.  She didn’t bother to put it back on but continued her run with it clenched in her hand.
Thud, “Oww watch it” upon enter the San Frankie had raced down the corridors and as she turned a corner ran straight into this man,
“I’m dreadfully sorry, I didn’t mean to, I was in a hurry you see shall I help you pick up your papers?” having been knocked to the floor  along with the papers she scrambled on her hands and knees shuffling pieces of paper together,
“I’ll have to re-sort all of these, don’t you know I have better things to do with my time” this man matter set Frankie’s back up
“Look I’m sorry but I have apologized, if you tell me how I’ll sort the papers out, but you weren’t looking where you were going either, and we would have collided even if I hadn’t been running and nothing’s damaged” her tone of voice startled the doctor, for a little girl she could be very forceful with her words.
Francesca had never been described as a beautiful girl, but merely fairly attractive and as the doctor looked at her something in his manner changed as he looked into her eyes which were normally green, but he noted a ring of amber around her pupils,
“Well we’re both at fault, let’s start over I’m Benjamin Basely-Walker, a student doctor here, but you can call me Ben, the papers shouldn’t take that long to put in order I should have put them in a folder to avoid accidents like this I thought I’d save myself time, and you are?”
“Frankie, and I’m sorry I was rude but I’m in a rush to see my sister so if you excuse me please I’d better be on my way” he started after Francesca as she walked quickly away down the corridor, his eyes softened, he was still smiling as he entered Reg’s office, it was the first time he had seen Ben like this and wondered what had caused it,
“What’s happened to you man, you look like all your Christmas’s have come at once?”
“Just been reminded of a time long ago that I thought I had lost, but instead realized that I hadn’t lost as much as I thought as long as I remembered”.

Well the pair of you could always IM me with who you think Dr Ben is or what you  think he means!

But to continue...

Skipping into the room, Frankie stopped she walked quietly over to the bed side and stared at her sister,
“She, is unwell, how selfish of me not to notice before, she seems different, but she’ll be alright, I’ll scribble a note and go, I don’t want to disturb her she , so, so peaceful” Frankie thought, she wasn’t inconsiderate, but the distance form her sister had widened her perspective on life.  Propping the note against the water jug she bent and kissed the top of Clare’s head before leaving the room as silently as she had entered.
As she closed the door a voice came from behind,
“What are you up to Miss, not bothering my patients are you some need their rest” Helen Graves had been at the San for many years and seen similar case to this,
“No, Clare was sleeping and I left her to it, I wanted to wish her luck, Dr Maynard said she would be having the operation tomorrow morning and I could come and see her today” looking at the young girl Matron put her arm around the girl and walked her to her little room,
“Just as well she wasn’t awake have you brushed your hair today, you look like you came through all the hedges backwards on your way here!”
“Oh no, but I ran from Mme Courvoisier’s as Con, I mean Mrs. Richardson has gone there for a visit and they said I may continue on to the San as long as I wasn’t too long here, and I wanted as much time with Clare as possible so when the wind swept my hat off I held it in my hand and ran, and then I knocked it the doctor and had to help pick up his papers and then I was in such a rush I forgot…” Frankie’s voice trailed off, she remembered her sisters remarks about her appearance all to well and had told her she needed to learn not to rush head long into things if she ended up looking such a state,
“Well as it happened you’re not the first girl to not carry a brush with her, how about you tidy up and we walk to Biddy’s I’ve not seen much of my newest niece” she said handing Francesca a brush and ribbon.
Setting out from the house shared by the Courvoisier’s and Graves was different Francesca was finally noticing the difference between her family and those who seemed to be connected with the Chalet school, apart form anything else it was getting her more involved with children younger than herself, and made her determined to look forward to Christmas, she understood that it would be difficult without Clare, but she decided that getting to know her brother better was just as important, and once Francesca mind was set nothing would shift it.
“Frankie, Frankie where are you?” Cecil had arrived back from Grindelwald and couldn’t wait to tell her friend about it all,
“Hush, she’s resting, and so are my three and if you wake them, you can deal with them” Cecil had never seen Con in her ‘Mamma mode’ as she named it, but she new the rules of the house when there were small people about as well as any other member of the Maynard family,
“Cecil, remember she was well this morning and you need to calm down or you’ll not see her at all tonight” Jack knew why his fifth daughter was so excited and it also explained Felicity’s quietness,
“Come Con, how has she been today, I want to know everything”
“She was better after a rest this afternoon so she went to the San to see Clare, and from what Helen told me ran all the way from Biddy’s to there, not even stopping inside the building” Con got the reaction she was looking for Jack shut his book and started at her, “don’t worry Papa the only damage done was to make that new student doctor of yours drop his papers, so when we got back  Len made her go an lie down and she’s slept since then I was going to wake her for some dinner, I didn’t realize how exhausted she must be.”
“I don’t think anyone has, she’s had a lot to deal with, but has taken it all on the chin, and sleep is just what she needs”, with which Jack glared at everyone in the room to emphasis that they must be as quiet as possible,
“Don’t worry I want to call Lucy if that’s ok, I can go in the study”
“And tell her all about ‘Lover Boy’” Phil piped up
“Don’t call him that he’s just a friend his mum’s a dance teacher and he helps at some of our shows, and he only helped my up after he knock me over, the rest is all in your imaginations” Felicity used her prefect voice which ended the subject as both her sister new better than to continue after Felicity spoke to them like that.

*scary big sis mode is indeed very scary*

Well the count so far today is 1,656 words including this next bit and it hasn't taken me that long so you never know there may be even more posted today, this next bits especially for Lesley who i know i have ask for more from straight after she makes a long post...

“Up at last lazy Daisy, come on and I’ll scrounge some breakfast off Anna from you, I’ve got so much to tell you, hope your heads better by the way, as if I don’t tell you soon I’ll burst” digging her fists into her eyes as she did every morning to wake herself up properly, just caught a glimmer of Cecil before she shot out of the door,
“Oh well, I could do with something and it must be late for me, I never knew I needed to sleep so much” with which Frankie scrambled out of her bed and made for the bathroom
“Oi, slippers young lady if you don’t mind” Joey had just left the night nursery as she saw Frankie leaving her room
Diving back into her room she emerged carrying what Joey protested more like crumpled floor cloths than a clean set of clothes, but practice of having to tidy her appearance quickly had taught Frankie how to make them quickly presentable so as she entered the kitchen looked much healthier than the previous day,
“Can I take my breakfast outside so Cecil and I can talk” a chorused answer came from all those present,
“You can the question is may you?” to which Joey added,
“I had it dined into me at school it has always been one of Hilda’s little things” Joey had to remember that although Francesca was considered by Cecil she was not in-fact family and that how she spoke about the headmistress of the Chalet School was important, “Be off with you I don’t want you under my feet today, I’ve work to do”.
Chuckling the girls walked into the garden and sat down, Frankie remembered this was the first place she had meet Cecil and how much had happened since then, as she sipped her milk.
“Glad your better today but it was so much fun in Grindelwald, I haven’t been there in ages and it’s not too long a journey.  It’s only a small place, there’s only one real street, it’s filled with lots of little shops and splits at one point for traffic on one side but joins up again, there’s a small chapel there, the road goes uphill at it’s at the top as you walk you can see the cream coloured spire above the building tops, there’s a beautiful bell tower alongside it.  Dad parked there and we walked down away from the town to catch a cable car up to the top of the Pfinsteig.  It’s got the most gorgeous views over the area; all you could see were all there roof tops, black, red and brown.  We picnicked up there and on the way back the pigs up there chased Phil, as she’d left her knapsack open slightly and they caught sight of some food she had left, she leapt over the gate, Mamma, Flick and I were falling over from laughing.  Papa decided we could all walk down as the paths not that difficult to follow and is only about an hour or two.  That was alright though I’m not sure you’d have managed it” glancing at her friend”
“I bow down to you oh experienced one” said Frankie kneeing on the floor at Cecil’s feet,
“Get up you idiot, I meant as you’d been feeling a bit off colour that’s all.  But anyway at the bottom we crossed the river it was almost yellow from all the sulfur, the spray went every where as it hit against all the rocks, I wont fancy cross that during the thaw”.
Cecil continued for almost an hour before as each time she told more of the story she remembered more little events.
“Oh and I almost forgot the best part, you know I said I bring you some chocolate back, which I did it’s I the kitchen, as we came up from the downstairs bit in the chocolate shop after we’d seen Ollie making some of the chocolate, which I had a go at too, Felicity was knocked over by this boy, Papa had gone to get Minnie and Mamma was buying some chocolate so only Phil and I saw but he’s jaw dropped at his help Flick up and she was crimson, his mum’s a teacher at Flick’s dance classes, they walked out of the shop chatting away, they were gazing into each others eyes and everything”
“Cecilia Marya Maynard, you are a hopeless romantic as well as having a vivid imagination, I was talking as much to Thomas as I would Steve or Chas, so don’t you dare pick up any ideas yourself Francesca, or I’ll have to speak to Mamma, she told you to leave alone” with which Felicity stalked off back inside
“Oh crumbs, you’ve really upset her Cec, hadn’t you better apologise, and I wouldn’t tell anyone else if I were you”.

Well 2,060 in a day is certainly enough and will have to satify you all for today, the last for today...

Over at the San was being wheeled into the operating theatre, as she closed her eyes her last thought was what if she awoke and was in the arms of her mother and father and how happy she would be, but at the same time sad.  Then she remembered nothing, ad the doctors were able to begin there work, they had a long time ahead of them.
Standing at the window Len gripped the rosary she had found at her friends bedside and prayed, a tear rolled down her cheek, she had seen what lay between the two girls and knew this was much more dangerous for an adult, her concern was not just for her friend and sister but for their brother, who in some ways the loss would be greater as not only was there a possibility that he would need to morn someone who he was supposed to be close to but would gain someone who needed to depend on him without knowing them.
Len was huddled on the floor as Clare was wheeled out and in recovery; she lifted her head and looked deep into her husband’s eyes.
“I’m sorry Len, but there’s a doubt if she’ll make it through the night, I’m just about to call Freudsheim”
“NO, no Clare said she didn’t want Francesca under any circumstances to see her if, if the worst was to happen, she wanted to be remembered the way she was, I’ll stay by her”
“I understand, but hasn’t Francesca lost enough without us taking this from her too?  I’ve got to call England and let her brother know I promised I’d call after the operation, he can’t get away” he kissed his wife’s head and helped her to her feet before walking towards his office.
Len entered the room, it was quiet she pulled the chair up close to the bed and sat,
“Mamma’s the one who normally does this, it seems silly I know but there’s something, I don’t know what but I know god doesn’t wan this to happen, he can’t that I’m sure of, so you need to rest and, and make yourself better Frankie’s got a lot she’ll want to share with you, and even though she’s still got your brother I don’t feel that” Len knew in her heart what she wanted to say, but the words lost their sense as she spoke them aloud.

Just a lttle for today...

“But Jack she’ll not forgive us, I know it’s what Clare wanted, but Frankie will, well I don’t know how she’ll react, she’s difficult to read.  Normally I find it so easy; maybe I’m loosing my touch”
“Or maybe she’s just unpredictable she’s had a lot to deal with in her life, more than I like, but she has coped and she’s strong”
“Mamma, was that Papa, I take it the news is not good” Con gave Joey a start,
“I didn’t wake you did I here rap the blanket round you, you do look a fright, not quiet as bad as when you used to sleep walk” Con stood in  the doorway her long black hair tumbling over her shoulders and showed up even more as she wore a white nightgown and dressing gown,
“No, Will was awake and I heard your voice as I went past, so I thought I’d see how things lay.  What are you going to do you can’t wake her now?” Con perched on the end of the bed, it was clear Joey was unsure of how to proceed.  “What if I go and heat up some milk a good night’s sleep will help us both think”
“Do what you will, but I’m not sure how much use it’ll be”.
As soon as Joey’s head touched the pillow she was asleep, Con knew her mother too well to take any chances so had slipped a sedative into the milk, from the supply her father left for just such cases, and she too fell quickly asleep, as yet she had not had an undisturbed night since the arrival of her son.
Unfortunately Francesca had woken only an hour after Joey and Con had retired again for the night,
“Something’s wrong” glancing over at Cecil she saw the bed, but not who she expected to see, in her mind it was Clare lying staring over at her sister, “Clare I must speak to Clare, but no one’s going to let me go gallivanting off at this time of night and someone’s bound to hear if I sneak out” her mind troubled Francesca got up and wrapped her dressing gown as tight as she could, opening the door she crept out ad down the stairs into the kitchen.
She made it this far and not disturbed anyone, why couldn’t she make it to the San she knew the way.  As it happened Anna had done some washing, rummaging through the pile, making a mental note to make it up to Anna Frankie found clothes belonging to her or Cecil, enough to make up an outfit and changed before she paused to consider the entire situation.  Now how to get out of the house the big front door was stiff and the kitchen door key was missing.  Clicking her fingers,
“I’ve got it the study window Cecil said before the boys left Geoff jammed the lock on the window when he climbed in during the game of hide-and –seek” swiftly with expert moves Frankie made her way to the study and just before she opened the window she glanced at the desk.

Question: Read Liss's e-mail and should i bother sending this to the fiction page or not?
and if so what does that mean exactly adn how do i do it?
(I know i'm being really thick and i'm sure i could work it out but i'm being thrown off the computer for a while and don't know when i'll be back on, so any help would be most useful)

Chloe - Liss is deleting threads more than two months old - yours is only a month old so won't be affected.

More please!

I *think* that what Liss is trying to say is that we're getting off the entire point of the drabbles section (not that any of us mind!) which is that drabbles are stories that are made up of different paragraphs by different people and that if anyone is writing a serious story, as you are, then it should not appear here but as part of the fiction page on the main site and people will review it as they do here, but in the review section on the board.

It's up to you what you do, Chloe, we'd all like to see it finished here and as fiction as well but if you want to stop it here and e mail the entire thing (if you have it as a word document then send it as an attachment - if you don't, I've found the easiest thing to do is to press print (on the drabbles page not the title bar), you get the print version, copy it and then paste it into word and save it. You might want to delete the comments people have made, though.) to Liss once it's finished, then that's OK.

The only thing about sending it as fiction is that depending on Liss' workload, it may be a while before it appears on the page.

Yay, good nhews, my ICT teachers have got so feed up of me trying to get onto this iste they've allowed me to view the page in school, just not post, which meant in my free lessons today i caught up o drabbles and managed to write more too...

As the moonlight shone through the window a letter that was in the middle of the desk was illuminated,
“That’s odd why is there just that one letter on the desk, the writing I know that, it belongs to Clare, but why would she write Dr Maynard”, having raised the window Frankie bent over the large desk, seeing her name she grabbed the letter and shoved it in her pocket.  Climbing out she looked up at the windows above as silently as the night surrounding her Frankie set off, she ran.
Faster and faster, swiftly she imagined the San door straight ahead of her, willing herself on.  Frankie sense were sharp, behind she hear the sound of an engine, she knew how ever fast she ran she would be seen along the road, at the bend where the road turned off onto a small lane she left the road and stumbled, rolling downwards. At the bottom of the slope scrambling onto her hands and knees, Francesca sat on a ground brushing the leaves and the dirt of her, she knee stung, as she looked more closely she saw a tear in her jeans and a trickle of blood running down her leg. Reaching for her hankie she also pulled out the letter, which floated to the ground unnoticed.
It was dark, the night was different here, huddling, holding her knees tightly to her chest she sat.  She remembered Clare.  How she’d been the strong one, when she lost her mother Frankie had been to young to fully understand the consequences, their father had gone to pieces and it was Clare who drove him on, who helped him, encouraged him.  She had clung to her sister since then she saw that now.  Francesca began to notice how cold the night was, searching her pocket she found some of the chocolate Cecil had brought back from Grindelwald, she smiled as she remembered the taunts of Cecil and Phil over a boy they had seen the elder sister talking to.
“They don’t know what they’ve got, I might never get the chance now, I might never get the chance to tease Clare like that again or hear her remarks about the state of my appearance or how worried she was as I’d gone gallivanting off again” she paused her thoughts were running quickly now,
“I didn’t leave a note or anything, I can’t go back I might wake someone and they’d stop me, and the letter, Clare’s letter”, scanning the ground it was easy to stop the letter where it had fallen, slightly cover by a bushed branch.  Taking deep breath she stared at the envelope,
“You always have had better handwriting than me” she let out a little laugh at the same time a tear rolled down her face.  This wasn’t the place to read it, if this was the last memento of her sister it needed to be read somewhere special, somewhere important and there was only one place like that on the Platz.
