Title: The School at the Chalet
Post by Carolyn P on Sep 7th, 2003, 2:05pm
Here is another one of those odd ideas I've been having recently. (I think it a ploy to put off the revisions to annexe.)

Pick it up and run with it if you want.

Madge looked down at her sister’s gravestone. It was a few months since Joey had died and the pain was still raw.
“What are you going to do old thing?” queried her twin brother, Dick.

The two had experienced a lot of death in their twenty four years.. Their mother had died in childbirth, to be followed by her husband then finally, and cruellest of all 12 years later by the daughter she died giving birth to. The twin’s guardian had also died in the influenza epidemic that had robbed them of their sister.

“Well, I do have an idea. You can’t take me back to India with you, as the Forrestry won’t allow it. Guardian didn’t leave enough money to keep me here, but there is somewhere I could live cheaply enough.”
“Go on,” replied Dick with a feeling that he was about to be talked into something. Madge had always managed to get her way where Dick was concerned.
“I thought I could go to the Tiernsee, you know, where we spent that wonderful summer, and start a school for girls. Mademoiselle would come and bring her cousin, and I’m sure the Cochrane’s would let me take Grizel.”
“What a mad idea,” exclaimed Dick.
And so it was bound to happen.

That's the general idea. I just wondered what it would be like.

Hhhmmm..Its an interesting idea...I can think of a couple of things that would have happened differently

No Rufus He would not have been rescued.
Grizel would have been left to languish when she went off to climb that mountain as no Joey would have rescued her.
Would they have thought of The Chaletian? Who would have edited it?

It would be like The Good Life film.

Hi Lesley,

I love that film too. I used to watch a lot of black and white films as a kid. James Stewart (did I get his name right?) was one of my favourites. He was in the original film on which You've got mail was based, wasnt he? The one with the man and woman who worked in the same shop and hated each other but were secretly pen-pal lovers.

Sorry Liss and Carolyn - for being off topic

Madge found,as she had expected, that Grizel's stepmother was only too glad to get Grizel off her hands, especially as there was no way that the decision could rebound upon her.  Mlle Le Pattre agreed to join the venture, too, and April found Madge and Grizel on the train to London.  There they would join the boat train to France, and the real start of the adventure.
