Title: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Marianne on Oct 10th, 2003, 5:16pm
Gabrielle Grey, stared dreamily out of the window in the sixthform common room. She had been sent to the Chalet school by her mother, an ex-pupil to steer Gabby away from male company.

(please continue)

Vikki! What happened to your watermelons?!
*wondering why Vikki is running for cover. Surely she's quite capable of dealing with a few dear lickle bunnies, especially when she was complaining about the lack of them earlier..*

*sigh* Oh, alright.
************
Gabby's eyes misted over as she remembered her most recent boyfriend. He really had been *something else*, she thought. She scowled. No doubt that was why she'd been sent to this dump. Her mother- once Gay Lambert- had become frighteningly conservative of late, and thoroughly disapproved of her daughter's chosen friends. Thus, the Chalet School.
Gay really hoped that they would 'do it again' and convert her die hard boy-loving daughter into a model of respectability..

Unfortunately, being sent to the chalet school, had meant that Gabby had to miss her follow up appointment at the GUM clinic, and the itching was becoming unbearable!! :o :o

She tried to think who to talk to about it. Then Matey came in with the information that it was time she had her new girl's medical check.
"The doctor's coming now," she announced, just as a beautiful dark young man entered. "He used to teach here, but decided he preferred medicine," Matey added. "Dr Matt Qualtrough, meet Gabrielle Grey."

It was some moments before Dr Qualtrough was able to respond, as he proved the truth of Matey's first sentence....

Well Lisa, how was I supposed to resist a line like "The doctor is coming now!" ? That was on a level with Ray's line in Dr Venables about Matt stirring his coffee with his thingy!!!!!!

(You know, I think you and I might be a bad influence  on each other!!)

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

ROFL! Well, it was unintentional. You may be right about the influence, but if you're not bothered, neither am I!  ;D

Matey eyed the embarrassed doctor and decided that given there was an innocent schoolgirl present, it might be more appropriate to rephrase what she had said.
"I mean," she said, looking rather hot and bothered, " that the doctor has er, *arrived*!"

there, Vikki! ;D ;D

The doctor came into the room and said, "Right young lady, let's check you over. Any problems at the moment?"

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 11th, 2003, 2:30am
Gabrielle batted her (extremely long) eyelashes at him, and Matey looked at her suspiciously. Surely they couldn't be....?
"I'd prefer to talk to the doctor in private, Matron," Gabrielle said sweetly. "After all, I am nearly 18. I do not need a chaperone!" She looked flirtatiously at Matt as she spoke, the the young doctor gave an inward groan. Surely he'd had enough trouble with this kind of thing before?

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Vikki on Oct 11th, 2003, 2:39am
"Perhaps," he said nervously, "you might be more comfortable seeing a female doctor? I'm sure my colleague, Dr Venables, would be happy to oblige. I'll go and give her a ring shall I?" he asked hopefully.....

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 11th, 2003, 8:00am
Matey jumped as if she'd had an electric shock and memory returned.
"You-you-you-" she stuttered.

"Well, doctor, I've been having chest problems recently - I think you should take a look," breathed Gabrielle.
Matt managed to say "I'm sure your chest is just fine..." before suddenly being overtaken by a fit of choking.
Gabrielle moved a little closer.  "Still, I would be happier if you would inspect it more closely."

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

Matey looked at Gabrielle and Matt and decided that she really needed to stay.  Not to protect Babriell'es virue, but Matt's reputation!  She also realised that Gabrielle was in dire need of one of her cooling drafts, the stronger and nastier the better.

Gabrielle took a sip of the noxious draught- not yet knowing Matey's ways well enough to be wary of such an undertaking- and, not surprisingly, spluttered it out again. It went into Matey's eyes and temporarily blinded her. Matt, meanwhile was starting to feel a concern for the girl's chest and decided to remove Matey so that he could continue with his examination..

Subtlety may have been what you intended, Vikki, my love, although I doubt it very much, knowing how corrupt you are, but it's certainly not what you achieved!

Matey, in her temporarily blinded state was moved bodily from the room by the *very* concerned Doctor who preceded with the very 'hands-on' examination - he concluded that the 18 year olds thoratic area was indeed in perfect health.

'Well Gabby, all seems to be in order, can i do anything else for you?' he asked buttoning his shirt and tightening his tie.

'Yes actually.'replied Gabby in all seriousness. 'I was due to have a check at the clinic but dear old mummy sent me here!'

'I see! Damn!' said Matt, scratiching his head.

What noone knew was that he wasn't actually qualified. Following the Head's sending him off with Dr Who sometime before, he had eventually managed to escape back to England, where he persuaded a friend to forge the requisite papers. The next time a vacancy had appeared at the San, he had jumped at the chance, hoping to gain a little revenge. He hadn't bargained on meeting this particular schoolgirl...

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Esmeralda on Oct 13th, 2003, 12:03am
but maybe he could do his best for her, and thus earn her undying gratitude, whilst still satisfying his lust for revenge, "Suppose you show me my dear," He said, You can trust me - I am a doctor."

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Vikki on Oct 13th, 2003, 12:52am
He was shocked, however, when Gabby whipped off her knickers and lay back on the bed, saying, "it's just here you see!"........

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 13th, 2003, 1:31am
especially since he did want revenge, not to blacken his name still further with the authorities, or he would not be allowed near the place and then what would become of his plans? As well as that, he had a sneaking suspicion that Matey at least had not been infected with the amnesia that seemed to effect almost everyone else concerned with the memorable events of the previous year.
He completed the examination as quickly as he could, making noises which he hoped made it sound like he knew what he was doing...

(NB: Vikki, I'm warning you- he's making a MEDICAL exam. Just thought I'd make that clear! ;) ;))

"I hardly think," the faux-doctor said weakly as the girl put her clothes back on after the examination, "that you had to remove your knickers to show me the scratch on your foot."

No, I'm fine! The Head was very understanding, and agreed that I'd been provoked, and also was a little crazy due to sleep deprivation!! ::) ::)

*lol* Yes, I've got out of excess baggage by doing the same! Very useful! And I do think the Head must be having a 'mercy' day!

Vikki, the second highest poster is usually Second Prefect. And Lisa, that does make you a prefect. We once had a detailed list of who was what, but it changes too much to keep track of it now. Third highest (which I think, without checking, is Xanthe) is Games Pree.

LOL! I got out of paying £80 for excess by pulling the 'I'm a poor deaf student on my way home for good and I need all this stuff' line. It worked! I was surprised as I'd already paid a ridiculous amout to change my flight to an earlier one- being miserable over my failure to pass the ICT test and thus be completely qualified as a teacher.

*still wondering how *I* managed to fail the test.A friend who's an IT graduate thought I was joking when I told her.*

Though I suppose it would help if i could remember what we did to them. Where did we leave the characters?

Oh yeah. Just after KB's valiant attempt to rescue the thread. Well, I shall do my best, but not having Vikki's lurid mind, I cant promise quite so swift a descent into the gutters.... ;D

Matt looked at Gabrielle. There wasn't a thing wrong with her- on her foot or anywhere else. He wondered what she was really up to, and the persistently fluttering false eyelashes gave him an idea...

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Carolyn P on Oct 13th, 2003, 11:31pm
He called Matey back in and had a hurried conference with that lady. Then he left a grin spreading across his face.

Meanwhile Matey handed Gabrielle a cold wet flannel and bid her wipe "that gunk" off her face and remove the false eyelashes. She then proceeded to administer an eyebath, telling the astounded girl that the doctor was worried that she may have an allergy to the make up that was affecting her eyes. Matey used this as an excuse to then go through all Gabrielle's drawers and confiscate every piece of make up she found.

This was not to deter Gabrielle.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 13th, 2003, 11:33pm
Being the daughter of an Old Girl, Gabrielle had been forced to listen to school legends so often than she could repeat them in her sleep- which sadly, she sometimes did. Remembering a story about Joey Bettany and a toothache, she went to offer help to Kathie Ferrars for the play so that she would have opportunities to access the make up box.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Emma_N on Oct 13th, 2003, 11:48pm
Unfortunately for Gabrielle, Matey was a cunning old fox and she had predicted that Gabrielle would try to obtain make-up from another source i.e. the school make-up box.

LOL!! By the time Gabrielle managed to track down the location of the school make up box she was desparate. Not checking the contents of the various pots of make up, Gabrielle simply smothered her face in a range of products. Feeling much better she followed her form out of the red dormitory into the 6th form common room.

'Ouch', as Gabrielle was to discover when she applied it the next morning. It looked okay but as Fruhstuck wore on she could feel her face getting warmer and warmer. Roberta Smythe was watching her and said 'Gabby, what on earth is wrong, your face is bright red!'
Gabby replied....

Vikki where are you?

***************************************************
It seemed that the caustic soda Matey had mixed in with the foundation (I know that wouldn't possibly work but never mind) was having an immediate effect on Gabrielles face. Her skin had started to blister, it looked just like Marys face had done last year when she had fallen asleep in the midday sun.
"What has happened to your face?" Roberta repeated her question "Gabby, answer me, you're beginning to scare me, answer me!!!"
Gabbys face continued to swell and blister, by this point the pain was so intense Gabby simply found it impossible to speak. (I'm getting visions of Patsy in Ab Fab now...)

By that time, the Head had noticed and demanded to be told the trouble. Gabby's incoherent stutterings convinced her that the girl had injured her tongue as well as her face, and she sent for Matron.
Matey came cockily into the room. When she saw the state of Gabby's face, she screamed..

Post by Emma_N on Oct 14th, 2003, 12:55am
"Oh no!!" she screamed "she must have used the cau..." at that Matey knew that she had to hold her tongue. Miss Annersley was on the spot (of course ;)) and knew that Matey was about to say more.
"What must she have used Matron?" Hilda demanded.

"The rest of the calamine lotion for our chicken pox people!" Matron managed at last.
Hilda looked at the girl's ravaged face and back at Matey again.
"But I thought calamine was supposed to be soothing?" she protested.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Emma_N on Oct 14th, 2003, 1:06am
"Yes, generally it is soothing" Matey replied "but in some cases it can have the opposite effect, Gabrielle must be allergic to it."
"What can you do to help reduce the swelling matron?" Hilda asked "We can't leave Gabrielle in this state."
Hilda was right to ask, Gabrielles face was still swelling and she was beginning to look like a tomato.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Vashti on Oct 14th, 2003, 1:12am
"We'll have to bathe her face in vinegar at once.", decided Matron smoothly.  "That will soothe the reaction caused by the ca..lamine lotion, and then she'll have to remain in isolation for some time.  She must be treated right away; we'll be lucky to save the poor girl's sight."

Through the pain and blistering, Gabby's head jerked up.  "What?"

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 14th, 2003, 1:16am
Matey looked at her mournfully. "Yes, my dear. A combination of the pressure exerted on your eyeballs and a few traces of mascara. Absolutely lethal. Hilda, you'd better start ordering books in braille for her."
There were two separate thumps as the Head and Gabby each conked out at this pleasing prospect.

"I said, you do look a sight!" Matey improvised quickly, not wishing to cause the unfortunate girl to panic at the thought of being blind......

Gabby (why does this blasted girl have a name that starts with G? I keep getting mixed up) tried to focus her eyes. She was having double vision. One Matey told her she was going blind, whilst the other said she wasn't. Gabby felt very confused.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

Suddenly, there was a loud explosion, as Gabby's left eye exploded, splattering gore over everyone in the room! The calamine lotion had reacted with the caustic soda, forming an explosive compound, and when Gabby had tried to light a cigarette to calm her nerves, the spark had set the compound off! Luckily, the right eye had been spared, so the girl would only be partially disfigured......

(Is that startling enough for you Lisa?) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Lisa_T on Oct 14th, 2003, 2:35am
Matey shrieked as most of the gore hit her- deservedly- square on the face. Her pristine uniform was clean no longer, but covered with indescribable bits of gooey blob.
Miss Annersley fainted again.

(Er... STARTLING..h'mmm)

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Vikki on Oct 14th, 2003, 2:41am
As she fainted, the Head knocked over the paraffin lamp which was the only source of light in the room, (they were having a power cut) the paraffin spilt on her skirt, and trickled over the floor, seeping towards the cigarette that Gabby had dropped, which was still smouldering away gaily.........

(I just want everyone to know that this is all Lisa's fault! I was trying to resist temptation......)

Just as it seemed a major conflagration was inevitable, Matey squawked and jumped back, knocking over the Head's vase of flowers in the process. The water extinguished the cigarettes. Unfortunately, although few people ever realised, Matey was allergic to pollen....

Jack got Daisy Venables to come and execute some of the beautiful embroidery which the school prided itself on teaching its pupils. She crafted a beautiful red rose on the stump left, where his leg had been severed!!!

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

*snicker* I'm not entirely sure that's what Matt had in mind.

And didn't Daisy get killed in her thread. *shrug* Oh, well, never mind...

In the meantime, Jack had had the leg sent down to Interlaken and when Matt was tucked up in bed, he came to present the leg in a beautiful mahogany frame.

"A memory of your time up here on the Goernetz Platz," he said with a meaningful wink.

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school
Post by Vikki on Oct 15th, 2003, 4:42am
Matt was very upset by this, and began to weep noisily! (He would have far preferred a pine frame. The mahogany one brought back bad memories of the wardrobe he had been trapped in as a three year old!)

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

"Well, I'm sorry," Jack said testily, once Matt had explained the cause of his distress. "But I do think you might think of other people for a change. After all, I went to all the effort of getting it for you, and Dr. Venables did her very best work on your leg. Why must you always be so selfish?!"

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

Title: Re: A Romance at the Chalet school

"Yes," Jack screamed back. Then, in a measured tone, "after all, you're the one who slipped on the parrafin and broke it in the first place. Oh, and by the way, as Matron died from her athsma attack, we've appointed you to take over. You don't need two legs to be the Matron of a girl's school - just a good solid medical knowledge. After all," with a knowing grin, "you are a doctor, aren't you?"

That's right. All of the doctors at the San were part of an international drug ring so none of their qualifications were real. They were all acquired from the Associated Universities of the Third Age, Bolivian branch for quite a reasonable sum (they got a job-lot).

Jack sat down on the bed and smiled condescendingly at the horrified Matt.
"My dear boy," he said confidingly, reaching into his pocket for a certain packet of tablets, "just take these and don't worry about anything."

*sigh* Since KB is evidently determined to put poor Hilda through ANOTHER pregnancy, here we go...
At least it's vaguely related to the thread title, which is more than can be said of any of the other posts so far! ;D :P

Hilda gazed sentimentally at Derek as the dalek carried on towards the screaming and defenceless Matt.
"Does this satisfy you, dear?" queried Dr. Who.
Hilda turned to him. "Yes, this is just what I wanted, after all he put us through last term. And you were right. Derek *is* cute. I hope that er-um the next one is as cute," the Head, finished, flushing a little.
By now Matt had conked out, much to the disgust of Derek. It's rather difficult to exterminate something that lies prone. Derek got much more satisfaction from his task when there was terror!

Matt is having the wierdest dream!

Unfortunately for Hilda, the fish suddenly turned into a live eel, which attacked her. She shot an anguished glance at the Doctor, but he had taken advantage of the moment to flee!

Deciding that the fish wasn't really up to the job, she rose and ordered Dr Who in her most magisterial voice to go into the nearest ward and get something really nasty. Dr Who was a bit of a wimp, and had no thought of arguing with her. Accordingly, he did as she asked and returned with...

If it is an electric eel (Electrophorus electricus) she could have received enough of a shock to knock her out, just what I might have expected in this thread.  If it's a European (Anguilla anguilla) or North American (Anguilla rostrata) freshwater eel, there are plenty of recipes for stewed eels, etc.  See for example Arthur Ransome - I forget whether it's Coot Club or Big Six where the Death & Glories discuss eel recipes.  Also in Secret Water their consumption is expected to make the tribe of the Eels eelier and eelier.

"Help me," Hilda ordered in a choked voice.
"Oh, goodness, no, dear lady," the Doctor replied, backing up as fast as he could. "I'm allergic to eels. Or was it heels? Or maybe it was wheels? Or could it have been steel? Kneeling? Dealing? Feeling? Congealing? Revealing? Appealing? Oh, goodness, what WAS that allergy? K9!!!!"
With a puff of magic smoke, the dog appeared beside him. "That was meals, Doctor. Fortunately you aren't allergic to the various components of meals."
"I am feeling rather peckish," Doctor Who remarked. "Lead on, K9. Let's find the dining room in this establishment."

Hilda looked at him with bewilderment. "What ARE you talking about? Kindly get rid of this creature immediately. I don't care how. Otherwise, you're out!"
"I suppose it'd do for dinner if there's nothing else," the Dr mused, coming forward cautiously...

Hilda and the Doctor decided to make the best of a bad situation and utilise the situation in which they found themselves. They found that the time passed quite pleasantly and that they noticed the eel a lot less, which eventually started to looosen it's hold..

Dr Who began to stutter incoherently. "I- I'm awfully sorry," he muttered. "It's not my fault- it's Derek's. You see, he was made by an Aussie in somewhere called Oz, and he's picked up all sorts of weird expressions and passed them all to me." He stopped and looked at the Head, who was still looking pretty grim.
"Pup-please, Miss Annersley, will I pay a fine?" he asked meekly.
"You can pay a triple fine!" she told him. "And then you can start making all the duplicate Dereks to put the strawberry jam in. At least it'll have novelty value. Come along, Derek, and I'll look after you after the nasty man blamed you for his linguistic failings."
