Title: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by catherine on Nov 9th, 2003, 8:23pm
“Harrumph!  Harum!  They want us!  They don’t want us!  Harrumph!  Harum!  What’s a Plot Bunny to do?”  Mr Plot Bunny muttered to himself, as he paced back and forth in the kitchen.
“What’s a Plot Bunny to do about what, dear?”  Mrs Plot Bunny looked up from the corner where she had been knitting placidly.
“The CBBers!”  Mr Plot Bunny informed her.  “All these comments about Plot Bunnies and how they don’t like them are just not on!  They’re all over the wretched board and it’s shameful!”
“Aye, that it is!”  Grandad Plot Bunny agreed.  “The youth of today; they just don’t know they’re born!”
“Oh we do, Grandad!  We wouldn’t be able to be speaking now if we didn’t know we were born!”  Master Plot Bunny piped up from where he had disgustedly shoved aside a Chalet School Book.
“Now there’s no need for any of your cheek, young laddy me boy!”  Grandad waved his pipe at the boy.  “Why can’t you be more like your sister, eh?”  He waved at Miss Plot Bunny who was avidly reading a Chalet School book.  “She’ll have no problem when she’s called upon next, but you!”
“Girls stuff!”  Master Plot Bunny grunted.  “Utter tosh!”
“Oh but it’s not!”  His sister cried.  “See, this one has a doggy in it!  You like doggies!”
“And they go on trains and boats.  There are fighting and deaths in them!”  Mr Plot Bunny added cleverly.
“Where?  Where?  Let me at them!”  Master Plot Bunny cried, flinging himself on his sister.
“Harrumph!  Harum!”  Mr Plot Bunny returned to his pacing as his children rolled over and over fighting each other.

Would these be the Yibblesville Plot Bunnies?

I understand that Yibblesville City Council have banned new potatoes and mint sauce within 10 miles of the city walls because of the tragedy that befell Grandma Plot Bunny. So sad  :(

Two evenings later, the scene was much the same.  Mr Plot Bunny had resumed his pacing, Mrs Plot Bunny had resumed her knitting and their offspring were fighting once more whilst Grandad smoked his pipe.
Mr Plot Bunny let out a sudden yell of exasperation, startling his entire family.
"Good heavens, dear!  Whatever is the matter now?"  Mrs Plot Bunny demanded, feeling more than a little exasperated, herself.  There she was trying to enjoy peace and quiet and a rest from inspiring humans with ideas and instead of finding something to occupy himself, her husband seemed to be doing his best to ruin it for her!  "Still," she thought, "he's a man and men really don't have any understanding of a woman's need for peace!  He really can't help it; men never were particularly intelligent; whatever they might think!"
"What's the matter?"  Mr Plot Bunny repeated.  "I'll tell you what's the matter!  For once, it looked like someone was going to take up our cause and I started to feel quite pleased but she goes away for a couple of evenings and what happens?  That KB girl, the one that calls herself Head Girl, starts to take over the thread with her yibbling!  And that Kathryn, Emma_N and PatW are no better - encouraging her like that!  Still I suppose one should be grateful that Vikki stayed out of it - for once!"
"That's why lots of stories take so long to write,"  Miss Plot Bunny piped up.  "They're always yibbling and by the time they're finished, they're too tired to write proper stories!"
"And then they get all fed up with us because they say we keep on at them!  It's not our fault if they won't write the ideas down so they can come out of our heads!"  Master Plot Bunny added, aggrievedly.
"And then, when they do write, half the time they're not even proper stories!"  The young plot bunnies cousin added from the doorway, where he had just appeared.

Sorry this looks like being three posts in a row but the story just came to me and then I put the comment in afterwards.

"Yes, you're right there."  Grandad Plot Bunny ruminated.  "Wasn't there something about a llama with purple spots or some such thing, written by Lisa_T?  And time travel as well?"
"And magic!"  Master Plot Bunny broke in eagerly - he was enjoying this particular drabble, although he knew it wasn't quite what was expected.  The fact of the matter was that he had spent many a bored afternoon listening to his mother reading Gone with the Wind to his grandmother who had become very short sighted just before she died and unable to read and not being all that interested in the Chalet School books, he had just pitched on a few names and gone haywire with it!
"Yes; well the sooner you get that ridiculous story out of your system the better!"  Grandad eyed him severely.  "George!"  He turned to his son.  "I propose that we call a meeting of all plot bunnies and air our grievances together!  Perhaps then we may be able to find a solution to all of this and a way of releasing all those bunnies that KB person seems to have locked up in her kitchen!"

The meeting was organised for a week later - after all, the plot bunnies came from more than one country and none of them could drop everything just like that!  In the meantime, the Plot Bunny Family began to think of the main points that needed to be discussed, apart from the release of the Plot Bunnies locked up in Australia.  They had decided to name this operation the Plot Bunny Liberation Front - a name proposed by Vikki and one they thought suited the operation very well indeed!

Title: Re: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 12th, 2003, 7:35pm
You have a science test? On electricity? How come?

*now convinced that the DfES has gone completely crackers*
*having visions of teachers now being tested on their ability to use lights, OHPS etc safely just in case they don't know how and some nitwit parent decides to sue..*

Title: Re: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by catherine on Nov 12th, 2003, 8:55pm
The test is to test my knowledge of circuits, insulators, resistors, conductors etc. and to be quite honest, I haven't got a clue!  I have looked at my notes over and over and I cannot grasp circuits and switches at all!!  Why we need to have our knowledge tested, I do not know - I rather thought the whole point is to know whether or not I am able to teach electricity at KS1!

If this course and my placements don't give me more enthusiam than I currently have (which is almost nil) then I will be seriously considering giving up.  The fact of the matter is that I don't want to have to give up CS stuff and just generally having a life for teaching.  Having said that, I can't think of what else I want to do!

Title: Re: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 12th, 2003, 9:09pm
I know. You have all my sympathy. That was the crunch for me in some ways. I love teaching- when it goes well, the feeling is unbeatable. But are those few good lessons a week worth the abuse, the low grade disruption, lack of co-operation and the sheer number of hours you put in to prepare a lesson, then mark the results, and then do all the stupid paperwork the DfES thinks necessary? Or your ITT people think necessary? I found I had no time to think, to explore ideas, to let my mind wonder, if you like, and those are all very important things to me. Therefore, I chose not to go into a full time teaching job. In the future, I'd be interested in part time or job share so that I can have a life, but there's an attitude in the teaching profession that if you're not working 24/7 you aren't dedicated! So Catherine, stick it out til Christmas. You've not had much contact with the kids yet, have you? And KS1 can be delightful. But if you decide to jack it or want a rant- email or pm me. I do understand.

Title: Re: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by catherine on Nov 12th, 2003, 9:23pm
Thank you for understanding!

I plan to stick it out for as long as I can and definitely until Xmas.  I've had almost no contact with the kids so far - only 1 day but I was so totally bored by it that I came home very depressed.  It was a mixed Reception/year one class and they basically spent most of the day in play, leaving me wandering around thinking, what the hell am I supposed to do now?  It didn't help that I got up at 6am, left the house at 6.30 to be at college for 7.15 (it's a forty minute walk), then had an hour's coach drive to the school!  I was knackered when I got there and I didn't get home again until 6.30 pm!  I just know that there is no way I will be able to do any kind of effective planning in the evening and I'm not going to have a good practice if I'm knackered all day!  My 2nd placement is in a Y1 class and the school is literally five minutes away from my door which is good!  I start there this Fri and depending on how my days in each school (one day per week per school) go before Xmas, depends on whether I stay or jack it.  The problem, if I jack it though, is that I'm sure my parents won't understand.  However, that's for the future.  At the moment, I'm still trying to work out what in heavens name electricity is all about!  The test is multiple choice, so hopefully I'll be able to blag it!

Make pretty patterns with the answers!! ;D

Reception/ Yr 1 *is* all play. I worked as a nursery assistant a couple of years ago in a primary school, and that's what it was like. Very little real 'teaching' at all, and you also have to be 'Mummy' and cuddle them, patch them up, dose them (with sweets), scold them, and try to sort out their (extremely strange) arguments.

On the plus side, they are amazingly responsive and will be fascinated by the smallest, most ordinary things- telling them about a magnet and demonstrating will keep several kids occupied for quite some time. Also, you will have to plan schemes of work and all the rest of it, but at least you won't have piles of marking to do- the marking is pretty much 'on the job.' I really enjoyed working at the nursery and have to say that I've sometimes wondered whether I made a mistake doing sec instead of primary/ early years.

Good luck with the test!
*If the worst comes to the worst, shut your eyes and jab at the paper with a pen!*

Post by catherine on Nov 12th, 2003, 9:34pm
Er, thanks.

*Catherine not convinced that method will give her the right answers!*

I understand the insulators etc. but I know that if a switch is open, the circuit won't work (I think) but the rest of it is over my head!  Oh well, never mind!  Everyone has to fail sometime, I suppose!

Title: Re: The Plot Bunny Family
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 12th, 2003, 9:49pm
Sad, but true :-[. I failed the ICT test, which really knocked me for six. Of all things, I did not expect to fail that! So good luck if you have to do QTS tests.

*will be very very happy if someone announces that they are no longer compulsory if you have equivalent or better qualifications for ICT, Literacy or Numeracy*

*doesn't understand why 5 year olds need to understand all this circuit stuff!*
*never did like physics! :-/*

Five year olds don't - or nothing more that if you attach a battery and a bulb or motor to each other via crocodile clips, it will light/work.  They need to know all this stuff at KS2 and 3 though and for some reason, that means I also have to know it!  AAARRRGGHHH!

"Ahem!  Ahem!  Quiet there!"  Mr Plot Bunny tried to organise the meeting, wishing he had the clear, carrying tones of Miss Annersley; although privately he had always that part a little far fetched - after all what use would a woman be at silencing a crowd of people all chattering hard?
"Quiet please, everybody!"  Mrs Plot Bunny barely had to raise her voice and the room fell silent almost at once, making Mr Plot Bunny very glad no one had been able to read his thoughts - or so he thought.  His wife grinned privately to herself, aware that he had yet to find out that it was her grandmother who had been responsible for EBD's descriptions of Miss Annersley and that the mantle had now fallen upon her.
"Er, thank you."  Mr Plot Bunny pulled himself together.  "Thank you all for coming and I apologise for the short notice.  The fact of the matter is that we feel we are being unfairly treated by a few members of the CBB and it cannot go on!"

"The time has come to do something about it and that is why we are all here!  We propose to make a list of the main offenders first and then see what we can do about it."  He paused and as the plot bunnies fell silent, to consider this, sniffles and sobs could be heard coming from one of the smaller plot bunnies.  He was promptly passed forward to the front and Mr Plot Bunny kindly asked the little girl what was wrong.
“P-please, I-I’m s-so t-tired a-and I-I can’t think of anymore ideas.”  She sobbed.
“Which drabble or story are you working on?”  Mrs Plot Bunny asked gently.
“Th-the New F-family O-one.  Th-they all w-want more b-but I c-can’t give th-them m-more.  V-Vikki k-keeps b-blaming m-me a-and I c-can-t h-help it.  I-I’m o-only l-little a-and I-I d-don’t have a v-very b-big b-brain o-or a M-Mummy or D-Daddy t-to h-help.”
“Who looks after you then?”  Mrs Plot Bunny demanded.
“M-my b-brother a-and s-sister.”  The said bunnies pushed their way forward and on hearing that they really were orphans, the Plot Bunny Family promptly declared their intention of adopting them and Miss Plot Bunny suggested she should take over the New Family drabble since the last one she had worked on had been “A Chalet Girl in Trouble” which had been very successful.

Depends on your mood. If you fancy getting funny looks, try the yibbling owl. If you fancy being annoying, mysterious, or superior (or even all three) do something coded with 'CBB'. Or you could simply put 'A True Chalet Girl' on it!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;D

OR- "I'm a true Chalet girl- not!"  depending on which fits..

As the small plot bunnies were led away to be tucked up in their own, warm, comfortable room, which they were assured would belong to them from now on, Mr Plot Bunny called the meeting to order once more.  He and several more of his friends were barely able to control the anger they were now feeling for the CBBers had well and truly sabotaged their thread with their silly yibbling about velcro t-shirts and twelve foot badgers - this last having scared some of the very small plot bunnies.
"Let's go on strike!"  Someone called out and there came a roar of approval.
"No!"  Grandfather Plot Bunny roared.  "That's playing right into their hands!  If we go on strike, they'll have nothing to do but yibble and we don't want to encourage that!  No!  I suggest that we limit our hours of operation - to the middle of the night!"
"Ooh yes!"  The younger plot bunnies jumped up and down with excitement at the thought of staying up all night.  "We'll wait until they've just gone into a nice deep sleep and then we'll make them wake up because they've got lots of ideas and just have to sit at a computer and write them!"
"Yes!  And we could give them lots of ideas when they're at work and school so that they simply have to keep on writing and get into trouble for not doing the work they're supposed to!  If they lose their jobs, they'll have nothing to do and they'll be able to spend all day writing drabbles!"
"No.  We do not wish to inflict that kind of damage on them!"  Mrs Plot Bunny returned.  "I quite agree that we should give them a few wakeful nights and prove a distraction to them every so often at work, perhaps at the most inconvenient time, but we need to work towards encouraging these humans to nurture us and love us like they do themselves.  I'm quite sure that if Vikki, for example, loved us as much as she loved herself, she would become much more productive.   What we have to make them understand is that we and our needs are so much more important than theirs and that once they have tended to us, they will be free to go about their daily business.  I therefore suggest that we nibble at them until they feel compelled to obey us and then, once they have attended to us and left us free to move on to the next part of their stories, we leave them free to go about their daily duties.  The length of time we do this for, depends on how long it takes them to realise that all they have to do is to listen to our needs first and fulfil them before they do anything else."
"Wise words."  Murmurs of approval ran throughout the crowd of bunnies that were gathered in the field outside the plot bunnies home.
"I propose that we split up into small groups and work out plans of action!"  Mr Plot Bunny tried to retake control.  "We can then choose a leader from each group to tell the rest of us their ideas and see what we manage to come up with....."
