Please, Vikki, let us have some more story!  We're not picking on you, we just like this story and can't stand having to wait for it!

8oo 8oo 8oo KB you know perfectly well I meant Real CS!

I am currently re-reading Headmistress to remind myself of what I've written!

I know, I know!!
I do know how frustrating it is waiting for drabbles, and I'm sorry to do it to you all, but the writing part of my brain keeps going on the fritz!!! :-/ :-[

*instructs everyone with a few spare PBs (I have a couple myself. Nothing to do with what I'm supposed to be writing, either! They lynched me suddenly after Ab Fab) to send them Vikki's way asap as this is becoming an emergency!!*

*wonders if Lisa's lynching PBs might result in an 'Eddie and Patsy at the CS' type drabble?*

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 15th, 2003, 9:30pm
No, it was even stranger than that. I had a sudden vision of Ab Fab with Hilda as Patsy and Nell as Eddie. Still hadn't decided who would be Saffy. Don't ask me to write it though cos i got no further than the initial idea!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

Just promise to post it when you do write it!!!
And how about OOAOML as Saffy?

But then it would be just Tara under another name! How unoriginal! ;D

Okay, here's the next bit...
(hope you all like it)

Matey closed the door behind the younger girls, after telling them to be sure to go straight to their formrooms, to begin on their prep. Having seen to this, she turned back to the bed and Beth, who was feeling shy in the prescence of  an unknown man.
"Now," said Matey, turning to the tall, fair-haired doctor, "Jack, this is your patient, Beth Jacobson," she turned back to Beth, "Beth, this is Dr Maynard, who is going to examine your foot, and find out exactly what you've done to yourself."
"Hello Beth." The doctor said, smiling at the nervous girl in a friendly manner, which helped to put her at ease, "It's a pleasure to meet you, although I would have preferred to meet you under circumstances that were less painful for you."
Beth smiled shyly up at the tall doctor, and said quietly, "I'm pleased to meet you too Dr Maynard! A-are you Felicity's dad?"
"I certainly am," he said with a laugh, "you know my minx of a daughter then, do you?"
"She's been sheepdogging me," said Beth, "and she's been doing a wonderful job! She's made me really feel a part of the school."
"I'm glad to hear it." The doctor said seriously, "I'd hate to think she'd do anything else! Now, let's see just what damage you've done to yourself!"
With this last, he drew the sheets gently away from the injured  foot, and gently unwound Matron's neat bandages. As careful as his handling was, Beth was still unable to stifle a small gasp of pain, and its accompanying wince.
"I'm sorry Beth." Said the doctor, gently, "But I have to touch it to find out what's wrong."
"I know," she said bravely, biting her lip to keep tears of pain at bay, "I'll try to be brave."
"Good girl. That's all we can ask, and I'll be as gentle as I can, and try not to cause you too much pain."

Actually, I've never missed a day of work, except for one week when I came down with flu on new years day!!
(which is actually pretty suprising considering how much school I used to miss!!) :o

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 16th, 2003, 2:42am
Maybe that's how it works - if you miss a lot of school, you don't miss any work, and vice versa. *wonders if there's a difference between missing school through illness and just not going because one doesn't feel like it*

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Vikki on Nov 16th, 2003, 3:03am
I was dreadful my last couple of years at school! I hated the place, was utterly miserable, and ended up feeling ill most of the time! And therefore ended up missing school probably 50% of the time! Added to that, my grandfather was really bad with dementia at the time, and all I got from the school was "I know it's hard but you have to try and forget about it and put your schoolwork first!" >:( >:( I'd like to have seen how they'd cope!!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 16th, 2003, 3:12am
That reminds me of Year 9. I was utterly miserable, and got an ovarian cyst, which I had out just before school started. Then it developed into a pelvic absess, and so I was even sicker. The end result was that I kept being too sick for school and only went back full-time six months later.

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

Ouch! That's nasty to have to go through at any time, but particularly nasty at that age!!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 16th, 2003, 3:15am
Did you stay for 6th form Vikki? That sounds nasty!!!! *no I'm not going to start teacher bashing- you want OT for that.. ;)* People can be insensitive so often.

I have to admit i missed very little school myself trhough illness. Except in 1995. In one year I had: eye problems (threatened retina detachment), a severe throat and chest infection, numerous colds, chicken pox, flu - which then turned into another, milder chest infection! Then I was fine until I did my MA when i spent most of the year beggiing for sick lines from the doctor because of chronic tonsillitis. On pgce the only school i ever missed was cause of going on holiday! ;D
But now I find it difficult to settle down to work- partly because this board is so distracting!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Vikki on Nov 16th, 2003, 3:23am
I did stay for 6th form, big mistake! Id've been better to go to college, but I was very shy and all my friends were staying on, so I did too, and hated every minute of it!!

Sounds like '95 was a crappy year for you!!

*can now see where Vikki's er, brighter (literally) suggestions originated..*

KB, I'm ouching just at the thought of that! I had several throat abcesses the year of the tonsillitis, but pelvic would be ten times worse- it seems to me that gynae pain is the worst of the lot when it decides to be bad. Did you get sorted eventually then?

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 17th, 2003, 12:33am
Vikki, that point was never in dispute, but we're talking about your bunnies, not mine.

Lisa, I had a useless doctor who had mucked up the first op and so basically caused the second one. I was apparently on the verge of dying when they took my in for emergency surgery (not that I knew about it) and spent another 10 days on pethidine IV without food before I could eat again. Sadly, although I lost 10 kgs in that time, I put it all back on again in less time.

Oh, and I discovered that apparently stomach surgery has an impact on a person's ability to lose weight. If your insides are disturbed, you put on weight faster and find it harder to lose.

*g* So am I. Stupid person. Your doctor, I mean.
I had a laparoctomy (sp?) last year for suspected endometriosis- all clear, thankfully- and was very annoye with the doctor cos he was such a nasty horrible man! My first appointment with him left me crying for about half an hour afterwards. I nearly decided not to have the lap but my mum convinced me. At least it's only a minor minor minor procedcure.

Oh, KB, talking of doctors, you might find this amusing. When I went to see the consultant prior to my tonsillectomy, he told me it wasn't a minor op by any means, but not a great deal either, and it would be no more painful that the throat pain I'd already had by then with abcesses. I thought, h'mm, ok, I can live with that. 3 months after the op, I had to go and see him (his name is Mr D'Arcy!!! doesn't look like it though) and he asked me when he'd last seen me. I reminded him about the op, and he nodded gravely and said, "oh yes, that's a nasty operation. Very painful!" I was nearly spluttering in annoyance with him- that's not what he told me first time round!

Vikki, you didn't happen to watch you've been framed tonight did you? That's what your post about KB's dr reminded me of. There was this boy walking across a thin plank over a river. He slipped and the plank ended up between his legs. He did fall rather hard. He looked like he was in absolute agony!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 17th, 2003, 3:23am
Lisa, I've had a tonsillectomy, but I was only five so I don't remember that much about it. My first op of those two, in which the doctor mucked up, was a laparoscopy and I remember the pain I was in because of the wind they fill you up with so that they can see!! I'm very glad yours was clear.

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 17th, 2003, 6:26pm
My lap wasn't so bad, although it's amazing how such a minor procedure- even when it goes well- affects your mobility afterwards. The wind is the worst of it- it seems to stretch all your muscles and you can't walk properly!
I'm glad it was clear too although I'm rather fatalistic about it. Over the past three generations- my mother, my grandmother, and my great grandmother- all have had problems serious enough to necessitate a hysterectomy by the late 40s, in one case, late 30s, and they all had kids early (before 25 in every case) so I've no idea what my long term prospects are that way. I can just hope it stays clear I suppose!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

Although concerned to hear of everyone's illnesses, I have to agree with Annie.  Come on, Vikki!  Has Beth broken any bones or has she just sprained it?  Is she going to develop a crush on the lovely Dr Jack?  When are you going to give me my scene with Miss Annersley?

BTW, KB, does having your appendix out count as stomach surgery?  I had mine out when I was ten, we were on holiday in the Lake District at the time and I ended up in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary!  I seem to remember the nurses complaining because I would heave myself up against my pillows and not wait for them to come along and help me!

*sigh* I had to have a hysterectomy 2 months ago and I really didn't need to know that! I'm very thankful however that I had an excellent doctor and nothing like yours or Lisa's. I'm recommending her to anyone who needs a gyno!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 18th, 2003, 12:25am
This may comfort you Trish. Then again, maybe not. My mum had a complete hysterectomy a couple of years ago. She lost loads of weight and never put it back on again- partly because of dieting. But also because she had complications! She had one of those haemotomas or whatever you call'ems- became very very ill, raging fever the lot. Thank God for antibiotics. She was back home when this started and my grandmother thought she'd end up back in hospital, but they gave her loads of super strong AB and that sorted it. Eventually. But she was very very weak for a long time. the op was in august and she wasnt allowed back at work until after xmas.

This would explain a lot in my mum's case! She had a hysterectomy, and later had her gall bladder removed (before they'd mastered keyhole surgery!) and has struggled with her  weight ever since!!

I really will try and get more of the story posted soon, honest!!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

Actually, it isn't official or anything, but I've met several people who have had major abdominal surgery (not sure how major hysterectomies would be considered) and they have all had the exact same problems.

Hysterectomy is major. Especially if they do a complete hysterectomy as opposed to a partial one.

Well, I did suggest to Hilde that she try to write thesis as a bit of variety, but she just stuck her paws in her ears and hummed tunelessly. *shrug*

I'd quite like to see your thesis if you let Hilde loose on it..... ;)

Maybe because the mark on it will have no affect on your future! ;)

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Vikki on Nov 19th, 2003, 5:07am
Well, perhaps you should let Hilde do her own version , to keep her occupied, while the thesis bunnies do the proper one?

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 19th, 2003, 5:09am
I thought about that, but she wants to look at all the books and when she's hungry she chews on them. Apparently the library gets rather unhappy if its books are chewed, so I had to take them away from her, and she cried, and I felt awful!

Awwwww! Poor Hilde! I hope you gave her a cuddle to comfort her?

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 19th, 2003, 5:22am
I gave her a big cuddle and pile of old newspapers for her to chew as much as she wants. It blackens the fur around her mouth, but I'll just give her a bath in the morning.

Why not just give her some carrot sandwiches, and carrot cake, and maybe a carrot milkshake?

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Nov 19th, 2003, 5:28am
Because she needs roughage, and because she loves paper! Actually, and she won't be happy that I'm telling you this, but she doesn't really like carrots.

*wonders if Vikki realises she's named her unfortunate PB after Miss Bubb*
*wonders if this means that the staff will be in another bus smash*
*decides (hopefully) that it was sheer thoughtlessness and forgetfulness on Vikki's part*

Well?! Where is your next bit?????

Well, of course I've named her. If I didn't, how would she know when I'm calling her?!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by catherine on Nov 19th, 2003, 9:11pm
She wouldn't!  She'd just think you were calling one of the other bunnies you seem to have locked up in your kitchen and of course, you wouldn't be mean enough to get their hopes up!

I don't have PBs locked in my kitchen! I don't! That was a figment of Vikki's imagination! The bathroom, on the other hand... ;)

Here you go! Anything for a quiet life!!! ::)

Ten minutes later, Jack had finished his examination, and gently, but firmly, rebandaged Beth's foot. Despite the care he had taken, Beth had experienced considerable pain, and he administered a small painkilling dose, and bade her to lay back and rest. Worn out by the day's traumas, and drowsy from the dose, Beth obediently lay back against the pillows and closed her eyes. Jack motioned for Matron to follow him from the room, and once outside, drew her into a small isolation room, next to the larger one which was currently occupied by Beth.
"Well, Jack?" Matron  queried, "How bad is it?"
Jack turned to the woman who bore responsibility for the physical well being of the  entire school, with a serious look on his face.

Oh help!!! Campers!! :o :o :o

"Well, Gwynneth, I'm sorry to say that I believe your suspicion was correct. Beth appears to have fractured several of the small bones in her foot! However, I would like to run her along to San, and have a couple of X-rays taken, to confirm the extent of the damage. Then, once we've done that, we'll put a plaster-cast onto the foot and bring her back to you. She ought to stay in bed for three or four days, especially as the shock seems to have had an adverse affect on her nerves, but once she's had a chance to recuperate there's no reason why she shouldn't go back into lessons. We have a new type of lightweight plaster, and we'll provide her with a pair of crutches, so she should be able to cope with most of the day-to-day activities. Obviously all gym and games will be impossible, and walks are out of the question until the plaster comes off, which will probably be six weeks or so."

No, it's laziness.  the rest of us can manage reasonable sized posts, so why can't you?  especially when you make us wait sooo long!   :P

Well, it's not the bit you're waiting for, Catherine, but here's the next installment!!

"I see," Matey said, with a frown, "I was hoping my suspicion was wrong!"
"I have the car outside," said Jack, "so if you can wrap her up warmly, I'll take her with me now, and get this sorted out as soon as possible."
With a nod of assent, Matey bustled off to get Beth ready for the trip to the Sanatorium.
Entering the room, she gently roused Beth from her uneasy slumber, and gently explained to her that Jack wanted her to have a couple of X-rays taken, and would need to take her along to the San for that purpose. Matey carefully  inducted her into a thick dressing gown, and wrapped a couple of blankets around her. Just as she had accomplished this, there was a tap at the door, and Jack entered.
"Well, ready to go, Beth?" He asked with a kindly smile.
"I th-think s-so." She faltered shyly.
"Good girl!" he said, swinging her carefully into his arms, "Matron, would you be able to get the doors for me? I don't want to risk dropping our patient!!" His chuckle reassured Beth that this was a joke.
"Of course," said Matron with a smile, "now, will you be bringing Beth back to us this evening?"
"I see no reason why she shouldn't be back in time for Abendessen." The doctor grinned.
Matron opened the door and then accompanied Jack and his burden through the corridors and out through the front door, where she helped the doctor to settle the girl on the back seat of the car. With Beth settled, Jack seated himself behind the wheel, and, with a wave to Matron, whirled Beth off to the Sanatorium, leaving Matron to make her way back into the school to inform the Head of the latest developments.

I actually don't find writing that easy, I can think up the ideas, but getting them down on paper, or on computer as the case may be, is much harder! I just get a kind of block, and can't transfer  it from my head! :(

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Today at 12:26am
Maybe you could co-write, you coming up with the ideas and the other person writing them out.

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!

It's an idea I suppose! :-/

I'm not saying you have to do it - it's just an idea to lighten your labours!

*laughs sceptically* Oh no no no, KB! When Vikki does that, her PBs suggest the oddest things, as YOU very well know. They seem to be under much better control when she has to write!  ;D

This is good, Vikki. I have to say I have some sympathy with you at the moment as I'm having trouble with the fill in- which is why no-one has recieved any further chapters this week. It's partly details as well, silly things like, do they say Grace before or after a meal, what does the dining hall at Plas Howell look like, when did they start giving meals GErman names again... and I've been so tired this week I haven;t done the research!

But BIGGER posts, please!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by KB on Today at 12:46am
Okay, I officially retract the idea, and urge Vikki to sit down and write as much as she can.

I'll do as much as I can, visit to the dentist permitting!!

*rolls eyes* Excuses, excuses!

KB, as our resident expert, do you know the answers to any of the questions above? If you do, can you PM them please- wouldn't want to hijack Vikki's thread! ;) Also, do you know when the first Willow Pattern Sale took place? I'm soo confused between reading original CS and the various fill ins that I don't know what I'm doing!

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Vikki on Today at 1:07am
Lisa, they seem to use German meal names in Island, can't find a mention of meals in Three Go, but since that was where they restarted the French and German days, that would be a likely starting point! Grace seems to come before or after depending how EBD felt!!

(Ooppps, meant to send that as a PM!! :-[)

Title: Re: New Family ~ Again!!
Post by Lisa_T on Today at 1:17am
Thank you, Vikki. That fits in with my own feelings. I'll use this term then to get them back into referring to meals in German. Have to have something for the girls to look horrified at! ;) ;D
