Well, I had to tease a little bit!!! ;D

Anyway, here it is, just for Esmeralda!! ;)

The two were the first to have finished their unpacking, and they settled down at their desks, to wait patiently for the remainder of the form. While they waited, they chatted quietly. Felicity brought the subject back around to her mother's latest book. "I'm sure you'll enjoy 'The School by the Lake'!" She said, a trifle mysteriously.
"Why do you say that?" Asked Beth, "Not that I don't think I will, of course! I've never read one of her books yet that I didn't love!!"
Felicity grinned, "Mamma will need a bigger hat, if you rave about her books like that!!" She giggled.
"Stop being so tantalising!" said Beth, exasperated!
"Okay, okay! Keep your wool on!" Chuckled Felicity, using a strictly forbidden  expression. "Now, let's see. Oh yes, "School by the Lake", well you see, this one is of particular interest to the school, because it's based on a true story, the story of how my Auntie Madge, Mamma's elder sister, started the Chalet School, on the shores of the Tiernsee, which is a lake in the Austrian Tirol. (That's where we spent Christmas, at our holiday home, Die Blumen!) She's changed names and things, of course, but basically it's the story of the school! She's working on a sequel at the moment, which will be called 'Anne of the Lake School'. I think she should make a regular series of it! There's certainly plenty of scope for storylines in the school's history!!!"
Beth stared at her friend in shock. "You mean, it's about this school??" She gasped in amazement.
" Of course!" That damsel replied, with a mischievous grin! "Mamma often writes from experience, and the school's given her a lot of experiences!!!!!"
Beth was still in a state of bemusement when the rest of the form rejoined them, having finished unpacking. The last girl had just resumed her seat, when the bell rang for elevenses. This was the signal for the girls to line up and file along to the Speisesaal, to collect their cocoa and biscuits.

Will that do you my dear? ::)

Come on Vikki, you should know us all better than that by now.

Lisa ~ Well, you weren't terribly clear as to your meaning my dear!!! (and please carry on with Tara, I can't wait for KB's reaction!!!!)

Title: Re: A New Family at the CS ~ Part two
Post by Carolyn P on Oct 26th, 2003, 10:37pm
I'm looking forward to her reaction as well, and she normally appears on the board about now.

I've also just realised that D is away for a few nights from tomorrow, so I can take the notebook up to bed and stay on for as long as I want...I could even join the yibbleing, if I dared after seeing what has happened to KB and Vikki in Tara.

Vikki, do you realise if you stopped yibbling you could write more of New Family. The question is whuch will entertain us the most...

I was going to swear off the board tonight to write my paper, but now I'm afraid of falling asleep (despite having gulped three pints of diet coke - shriek!), so if you could just check every now & then that I'm awake... it would be most appreciated ;D

This is what I've managed to write so far, I'll try and produce a bit more later, but no promises!!

When they reached the Speisesaal, Felicity wriggled through the milling throng to the long table, where half a dozen prefects were dispensing mugs of hot chocolate, and Karen, the cook's, delicious home made biscuits. She snaffled two mugs, and a handful of biscuits, for herself and Beth, and then wormed her way back through the crowd to the other girl. As they chatted together, they were joined by their respective sisters, Daphne and Marie. This enabled Beth to inquire as to how her sisters were settling in, and how they were enjoying school so far. The eager responses she received set her mind at rest, and eased most of the worries that had been resting rather heavily on her shoulders.
When the bell rang for lessons to re-start, Beth returned to Va in a  much easier mood. The first lesson was a discussion on "Pride and Prejudice", with Miss Annersley, and Beth revelled in it!! She had read the book at her old school, and loved it, and the Head had a way of leading her pupils to see beneath the surface of the novel. In just one lesson, Beth realised things about Jane Austen's masterpiece which a whole term's lessons at her old school had never revealed to her. She found that she was longing for the next lesson on it.

Just realised I had a weeny bit written that I hadn't posted, so here it is, and more to follow when written! Promise!! ;)

The other lessons for Va that morning were Arithmetic, which Beth enjoyed, French, which she found a struggle, due to the other girls having far fuller vocabularies than Beth had gained from her old school. The final lesson before Mittagessen was Art, which, unfortunately, was not one of Beth's strongest subjects! She felt a total idiot compared to the other girls who had all been well taught in the basic tecniques, whereas Beth's previous art teacher had not bothered with the pupils who  had little natural artistic ability. However, Miss Yolland, the art mistress, and an old girl of the school, promised to give her some special coaching in the basic skills, with the result that when the form were dismissed for Mittagessen, Beth felt a little happier with life, than she had at the start of the Art lesson.

They're even better when you hunt out ones you had as a young child and all the memories come flooding back....

The only problem is that they do like to take over a house if they can!!!! ;)

Does anyone know if they're related to plot bunnies? Or have they just hung around them so long that they've picked up bad habits....

Probably a bit of both!

Don't be afraid of them KB!! They're not evil like plot bunnies!!!

*Finds it very strange that the plot bunnies only came visiting after Mum rescued my favourite childhood teddy from the attic and I brought him home.

I didn't - Mum did!  But he's been rescued now......I've been asking about him for years.

I have a box of teddy-bears in Dad's shed. They were in the roof until we moved house.

KB!!!! Please don't leave those poor teddies in the shed!! They'll be all scared out there!!

I have very brave teddies, and they have each other for company.

Besides, I'm sure when no one is around they get out of the shed and go to the park to play.   They might even, if they are very daring bears, go into the house and jump on the beds.  KB, have you ever misplaced something in your house?  Perhaps the bears had been playing with it.

Well, I'm sure some of my bears are members of the CBB, since I keep finding my computer on, when  I've been out!! ;)

Well, I suppose bears are entitled to some fun now and then. But if they were to get into the house, they would first have to get out of the box, out of the shed, avoid being eaten by the goat and sheep, unlock a door or a window and then finally be in. I think it's more likely that they just have parties in the shed!

You'd be surprised at what bears can get up to KB! One of mine is currently hankering after this remote control Harley Davidson which he saw in a gift catalogue, and would be just right for him to ride on!! However, as it's £120, he's not likely to get it!!! (so he's sulking!!)

Considering the amount you spend on books for yourself, I think it's downright selfish not to buy that for your bear! >:(

No it's not, he's actually very spoilt!! We even had a girlfriend made specially for him, and he gets pocket money!!!

So is he going to save up and buy the bike for himself?

It would take him a long time! He only gets 20p a week!! I'll bring him to the meeting with me, he's cute! He's only about 5inches tall!!

So, is this thread being retitled "Teddy bears at the CS?" I expect lots of the girls did have their furry friends with them. Maybe you could try tempting your PB with one.

Edit to add: After reading this thread I now have the tune 'Teddy bears' picnic' in my head!

Well we don't seem to be getting any more story so we might as well take over the thread with tale of our teddy bears.

I had a panda who went to bed with me every night until I got married. (mean D) He had lot all his fur an been darned umpteen times. Oh, no, now I'm thinking Velveteen Rabbit and will start crying soon.

Don't think about the Velveteen Rabbit!

I got Winney-the-Pooh when I was a year old and he went everywhere with me for years. I eventually chewed off his nose and part of his mouth, but Mum stuck them back on. I renamed him Tom when I was about seven (I had a doll called Lucy) and used to take him away with me for Christmas.

Lucy and Tom, now those are beautiful books.
Happy smiles now replacing velveteen tears.

I have a pooh bear too.  Did you know that he is Canadian?  My bear used to sing the whinnie-the-pooh song, but his batteries (non replacable) have long sinced died.  Actually, he is retired and only comes out on special events or trips (he likes to look out of the airplane window so he sits on the seat beside me.  Once he even got to sit in the cockpit).  He also sometimes went to the hospital with my mum.  But, he once got lost be the US postal service when he was enroute to my mum in the hospital in Houston.  When we were trying to track him down the man on the phone said that if he was really lost they could give me his replacement value.  I pointed out that I didn't really want to bancrupt the USPS but since they'd need to pay for a time travelling machine so I go back in time and get him back in order to replace him, I might have to do so.  The man pointed out that he meant the cost of buying a new bear in the store.  I think not!!

Chelsea *happy to report that he was found safely in one of the nurses stations being spoiled rotten*

I had a pink teddy, and his head kept coming off!!  I had him at boarding school, and for some reason took him across to the gym.  Someone threw him up in the air, and he got cuaght in the ropes that pulled the outer support for the beams across the room!
