Title: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 4th, 2004, 8:43pm Margot woke up that morning with a deep sense of joy in her heart. Finally, after years of work, she was getting her desire. She was sorry that her family couldn't be there, but the distance was simply too far to travel. She had all of their good wishes in letters. Lying there she realized that if she didn't get up, she would be late for the first set of prayers. Giggling, she hurried into her habit, and tidied the little room. Many of the Nuns in the corridor gave her smiles, as they all made their way down to the Chapel. Margot was unsure how she would get through the time until her ceremony of profession. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Loveday on Jan 4th, 2004, 11:48pm yes me too, I always liked her becoming a nun....though I didn't really like her when she was younger, she was so immature! |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Esmeralda on Jan 5th, 2004, 1:04am I would always have preferred it Margot hadn't become a nun. but I'm interested in seeing what she makes of it. Please carry on. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 5th, 2004, 6:23pm I wrote a whole new section to this, and then I tried to post it and the computer ate it. So here we go again. Margot sat in her seat in the chapel waited for the Divine Office to start. As she sat there, she remembered how hard it had been not to fidget. And as a postulant, she was constantly seated next to Sister Mary Laurence, who was so perceptive that many of Margot's fellow postulants commented that Sister knew if you so much as blinked, despite the fact that her eyes were always straight ahead. With some the other sisters, Margot had been able to get away with twiddling her thumbs under her scapular, but never with Sister Mary Laurence. Slowly, with several years of practice, Margot was content to sit still and wait the the music to start. Often, when she got back from her work at the hospital, sitting still was a relief, rather than a trial. In the midst of these thoughts the Choir filed in and the Office started. Peace filled Margot as she thought about how right it felt, to be sitting in that chapel, starting her day. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Carolyn P on Jan 5th, 2004, 8:59pm I would very stongly echo the advice to write in word and copy/paste here as the TEM is a very hungry monster. It also makes it easier for you to refer back when writing, and you can write offline. Like the look of this, you seem to have thought a lot about what Margot would face, and the problems she would have. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 7th, 2004, 4:26pm The Nuns ate breakfast in silence, as a preperation for the strenuous day that they met in their work at the hospital. This day, however, the majority of the sisters would not be going to work. They would be attending the ceremony of profession for Margot Maynard. The ceremony would take place at ten in the morning, and as soon as breakfast was over the nuns hurried to do the daily chores, before moving to prepare the chapel. Margot hurried to the hospital, to attend breifely to her patients before preparing for the ceremony. Many of her patients were eager to give her their good wishes. Margot herself, enjoyed the moments of contact with them, happy to see that many of them were doing better. As Margot returned to the convent, she was stopped by Mother Mary Constance, who asked Margot to come to her office. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by KB on Jan 8th, 2004, 4:59am Surely any summons has some sort of ominous overtone! I just hope, though, that one of Margot's family has come to see her! |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 8th, 2004, 6:18pm Hmmm. Some good suggestions there. I hadn't though about killing someone off until now.... I do think poor Margot has been beat up enough. Between EBD and all of us here, perhaps its time for her to have a story that ends happily. Or not. "Of course, Mother," Margot said, and entered the small office. "I just want to say how happy I am that this day has arrived for you. I know that you struggled a little at first, but you have grown immensly in your time here. I have a gift for you." Mother Mary Constance turned to her desk and took out a small wrapped package. "Open it" she said. Inside, Margot found a rope, similar to the ones that was tied around the waist of the nuns habits. She looked at Reverend Mother, with a questioning look in her eyes. "Your patients at the hospital wanted to give you something special on this day, as did I. The rope is the one that I recieved at my solem profession. The clasp is from the patients at the hospital, who wanted to thank you for the good work that you do as their doctor, and as their friend. I know that you have struggled to get to this place Margot, and I pleased that you have stuck with Christ, who has led you to this place. Now, off you go, to get ready for the ceremony. Sister Mary Robert will come and help you. Sorry, no Joey yet. We'll see how the plot bunnies lead me as I go. This is all for now. |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 11th, 2004, 2:01am Here's some more. Thank you all for your patience. School overtook me, and before I knew where I was it was Saturday, and I had come down with a cold. (Actually, where I am, it still is Saturday, and not that late either) but I slept a lot so I'm feeling better. Margot stood in her room, while Sister Mary Robert put the finishing touches on her attire. She wore the long habit of the professed nun, belted and clasped at the waist with the rope and clasp from Reverend Mother and Margot's friends. Mary Robert took a flat box off the bed, opened it and placed a wreath of flowers on Margot's head. She would wear them until she recieved the veil of the solemly professed nun. Mary Robert handed Margot a letter and said, "Hear dear, this is for you. I must go, but read it, and I will be back in a few minutes to take you to the chapel." "Thank you, Sister" Margot murmured, as she opened the letter. "Dearest Margot," It said. "Although we cannot be with you on this special day, we wanted you to know how proud we are of you, and how much we love you. We are so pleased that you have reached this day. We pray for you always. Please find enclosed a small something to wear on this, to remind you of us." Margot glanced in the envelope and found a small medal of Mary. She looked at it wonderingly for a minute, and then returned to her letter. "Your brother, sisters, aunts uncles, cousins and friends, join in sending you their best wishes and love. "Blessing and God keep you "Papa and Mamma" Margot turned back to the envelope and took out the small medal. She turned it over in her fingers, as she thought about the life she was leaving behind. Although Margot would miss them, she had no regrets. She fastned the medals chain around her neck, tucked it under her robes. She was glad to know that her parents prayers were with her on this day. Minutes later, Sister Mary Robert returned to escort Margot to the chapel. Margot took her place in the procession, and knelt before the bishop to take her vows, and recieve her veil. The priest gave his sermon and talked about the calling that Margot was entering into. After recessing, the nuns, the priest, and the many friends that had come to see the party went down to the refectory for a delicious meal, and a wonderful cake and to congratulate Margot, now Sister Mary Damian. As she retired to her cell that night, she felt a contentedness, knowing was finally where she belonged. The End Thank you for reading. I think Damian is the patron saint of doctors and surgeons, but the web was a little sketchy on that. If anyone knows for certain, and want to let me know, I can change it. . |

Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Kathy_S on Jan 15th, 2004, 5:43am Re/ family visits, it would have depended on the order. Since Margot became a doctor, I doubt she was a cloistered nun, and therefore would probably have visited family now and then between assignments. As far as I know, even cloistered nuns would still have been able to receive visitors, though I'm hardly an expert on this topic. Trying to remember what I've heard from older ex-nuns ... seem to recall stories of specific family visit days. *Edited to note that I am not an ex-nun (vow obedience? no way!). "Older" here just meant that the few people I know of the right era and with first hand knowledge are ex-nuns. |
||
Title: Re: Margot Takes Her Vows Post by Shander on Jan 15th, 2004, 7:56pm I ran into one order when reasearching this that I think wasn't cloistered, that revieved family visits twice a year. It would be harder if she was working in Africa, but that was my model. I don't really know much, so the order in the story was cobbeled together from bits and pieces I found out on other ones. No more of this story, but I have an idea percolating for a new one. Depending on how much reading for school I have to do, it should be ready in the next week or so. But I'm making no promises. |
