Title: Chalet School Hairdresser! FCS
Post by Lisa_T on Jan 3rd, 2004, 9:04pm
Len Maynard marched into the Head's study one morning, armed with a very large pair of scissors.
"Good morning, Len," began Miss Annersley pleasantly as she ran an experienced eye over some lists. "What can I do for you today?"
"A funky cut and a blow dry, please, Auntie Hilda," returned the girl cheerfully.
"I see." The Head crossed the room and hit a button. A secret door swung open to reveal all that was required for Hilda's miniature salon.

Please someone take this up since it's your faults! ;D

As the secret door swung open, a camera set up on a pivot also swung round. Hilda preened herself a little, conscious of her every move now being broadcast on satellite television - the brainchild of a reality TV director.

Looking directly into the camera, Hilda cleared her throat and began her first 'diary entry' of the day ...

"Len has been having some problems recently with her hair," she told the camera in a confidential manner. "It has taken her a long time to come to this decision, hampered by the style advice of her mother, a woman who insists on wearing her waist-length hair coiled up in 'earphones'." She turned back to Len, motioning for the girl to take a seat.

Twenty minutes later Len was slef-conciously touching the hair ends tickling her ears.

That was the only bit of hair  she had left on her entire head.

"What do you think, Len?" asked Miss Annersley with a smile.
"I - I LOVE it, Auntie Hilda!" Len flung herself on her brevet-aunt.  "It's marv- miraculous! Thank you so much!"
"And now," Miss Annersley turned back to the camera, "it's time to - BRING ON THE PARENTS!"

Hilda smirked at the girl's reaction, and turned to her phone- the one that was directly linked to Freudesheim. She placed her hand on the reciever and stood thinking. Len watched her expectantly. Hilda nodded as inspiration came, and winked at her brevet neice.

Joey Maynard frowned and clapped her inky hands over her coiled earphones as the phone rang.
"Drat and drabbit it!" she muttered as she answered. "What does Hilda want now? Just when I'd got Cecily nicely drunk!" She heaved a sigh and spoke. "Joey here. That you, Hilda?"
Hilda paused to inject sufficient consternation into her tones. "Joey, are you free now? We have an emergency."

Considering where some of the others have begun, is it any wonder where this one started from? Some seemingly quite normal ones have descended into anarchy (Dr Venables and advent drabbles anyone?) while insane starts have often produced the most hilarous ones around.

Hey, I didn't start it. It was Vikki and Esmeralda- they started the rowing over Len's hair in real neice and provided the inspiration. I don't know who came up with the relaity show though! ;D
Sugar- just realised that Lisa started the reality show- so which of us were you talking to, KB?!

Joey muttered to herself, rang Jack, and hared over to the School. As usual, she dived head first through the salon door. Unfortunately it was closed. Joey smacked up against it and landed in a heap at the bottom. Hilda and Len, who had been watching through one of the CCTV cameras, slipped out of the study to get Joey in and tied up.
"Now!" hissed Len, as Hilda turned back to her camera.

Quickly tying Joey into the stylist's chair, they removed the pins which were holding up her 'earphones' and looked despairingly at the two long plaits which hung down over her ears as they started half-way up the side of her head.

'This'll teach her to try to look like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm' murmured Hilda. 'Now,, scissors, bleach, lime green dye, and yesssssss, I think the dayglo orange dye as well. Won't your father be pleased with her new look, Len?'

A special effects speaker blared out a fanfare as a secret door in the room opened to reveal Susannah and Trinnny (are the names right??!)

"Oh yes," confirmed Hilda, looking straight into the camera. "Not only will we be giving this young lady a new hairstyle, but we will also be advising her on 'what not to wear!'"

To the accompaniment of cheers from those at hand, S & T advanced on the powerless Joey ...

Unceremoniously pushing the unfortunate Joey into a 360-degree mirrored cubicle, Trinny and Susannah prodded and poked, relentlessly commenting on Joey's figure.

"Darling, green just isn't the colour for such a pale skin, it makes you look positively mouldy" drawled Susannah, as she thrust a ream of gold lame across Jo's shoulders and then stepped back to admire the effect.
"And what are you wearing?" interrogated Trinny whilst simultaneously tearing off Joey's jade green twinset which she had matched with a summer straw hat, the ribbon enicrling it of the same jade.
"And these pearls? They're so very sloaney!" chastised Susannah, whisking them off from around her throat, oblivious to Jo's protests that they were Belsornian and the King himself had presented her with them.
"You're far too old for a short skirt, leave it for your daughters!" trilled Trinny.
"And this underwear - it's positively outdated!" clamoured Susannah, man-handling Joey's bust. "You've no tits, darling, none at all - you need to see a proper bra-maker and get yourself properly measured so you can make the most of what little you have got ...."

So it went on until Joey was dragged from out of the cubicle to stand in front of three window dress figures, each adorned with a different outfit, to be lectured in what she should be wearing ...

I think I always envisaged Jo in a time warp!  She went straight from school to her sister's home to marriage, had no other boyfriends (even when she had the quads in India, she had no recollection of 'you know what' [not sure how to get round the censor  ;) ]).  I wonder if she knew where all those babies came from!!

I can't believe that I'm accepting the quads in India as mainstream CS.

Of course you have to read the archives. It's only when you ignore the family's yells for food, clean clothes, attention, and don't get to bed before three in the morning because you're reading drabbles that you're a real Chaletian.

Er- I hate to be pedantic, but strictly speaking, the only woman who should be addressed as 'Ma'am' in the UK et al is the Queen or her representatives. In theory, anyway!

ROTFL! There's a thought. Imagine applying that logic to the CS- the only people who can be addressed as 'ma'am' there - Hilda and the prees! Wouldn't that be confusing? *chortles*

But aren't you in America, Kathy? The monarch argument wouldn't wash.

Ackshally, I got that piece of useless information from a film from 1960, 'The Grass is Greener' and it's actually an American calling a countess 'ma'am' that provokes the response re only calling the Queen that..

Rats.  Guess you're right.

For a few of them, the "ma'am" is a natural speech pattern.  Then there's the "Yes, ma'am, Dr. Schmid, ma'am" crew.  Best just to issue orders, I expect.

(It probably wouldn't be respectful to ask.)

Actually, no, I don't! How terrible of me! And there is a point at which Hilda was described as the older of the Heads.

If Bill is 30 in 1937 then she would be turning 100 this year, so I suppose I'm not that far off after all. 8oo

*Plugs 1907 + 100 into calculator.*
What year did you say this was? ::)

Edited to say:
But if the "she" somehow refers to Hilda it's very close indeed.

Yes, it did refer to Hilda, in my own shorthand.
Nell is 97 this year, and if it wasn't just an EBDism that made Hilda older (I can't actually remember which book I read it in) then even if she isn't 100 this year, she would have to be very close to it! :P

Nell is about the same age as Madge and in CS at War Gwensi sees Hilda as older than Madge.

And if (if!) Madge was born in 1907 (or thereabouts) (ie. 24 years before the first book) then my calculations are still (thankfully) correct!

Sadly for Joey (and for the cleaning woman, the next day), the sight of herself in so many different mirrors had caused her head to swell with mistaken pride to such an extent that is was now only just able to be supported by her shoulders.

Finally, however, her poor body could no longer support it, and she fell forward onto the dress figures, impaled on them.

Look here," she explained, pulling the unconscious woman towards her, and incidentally giving her a nasty bump on the forehead, "the company's name is 'Shift'n'move', but you can't even see the f in the first word, and the rest is unintelligible!"
"But appropriate," Suzannah snickered. "Have you ever really used that company?"

Gawd, when did I become an FCS writer?!

Hilda, Trinny and Suzannah (as well as Len, who had sidled in and was trying desperately to get herself on TV again) stood looking down at the unconscious Jo.
"So what should we do?" Trinny asked.
"What can one do with someone in her state?" Suzannah retorted.
There was a very long moment of silence, broken only by Len's beginning as she tried to get the cameraman to give her a closeup.
"Of course!" Trinny suddenly exclaimed.

Their next statement was in unison: "She would be a perfect............"

Guides came pouring from all corners of the school, rapidly dousing the flames.  Handily concocting an elixer of mandrake, fennel, lavender and Baileys, Bill revived any and all participants in the late unpleasantness.  And with all evidence of anything untoward conveniently incinerated, they all lived happily ever after.

ETA All that water must also have brought Bill around in time to compound her remedy.

..until the next crazy drabble came along!  ;D ;D

Kathy, how could you? And we were having such fun! :'(

However, this was only a fake swoon, as what she really desired was to get into Jack's pants........

Another cover-up. The chalet school gets ever more sinister! ;D

ETA: 3 of us posting at the same time...this has got to stop!

Nell decided that since everyone else was dead (including Rachel and Co, presumably) there were no more barriers between herself and Jack, and she flung herself at him ecstatically, regardless of her singed hair and dripping form..

But that's the fun of this type of drabble Nicci!! ;)

*suddenly struck by realization that she hasn’t touched triacylglycerol manuscript in the past five hours, gives up in despair, leaving spare bottles of Bill’s Elixir in all splasheries, staff quarters and CBB modems*

And THEN they all lived happily ever after.

That was nearly as much fun reading it as posting (or trying to!).

Do drabbles often spontaneously combust like that?

Well, usually they go on for a little longer, but the end result is usually the same, yes.

So does this mean Rachel, Esmeralda, Vikki and myself are all dead? Gee, the board's going to be quiet, isn't it?

It doesn't happen VERY often Pat, it takes certain combinations of people, and it needs those people to be in the right mood!
The infamous 'Dr Venables' thread was the first occurence of the phenomenon!

KB, you have to remember the rules!! We can't actually die in a drabble!
(frantically making up rules, having forgotten that WE were in the room too!!)

Followed soon afterwards by stories such as CS Roleplay, Reg Goes To Hollywood, A Job For Jo, CS and Tara (which inspired certain scenes in this), Matey v. Miss Annersley, Tales of a Carving Knife (which also came back in this) and any number of others! If you see the word 'silly' or 'group effort' in the descriptions of stories in the archive, you'll probably have something like this!

Well, I enjoyed the 'phenomenon' enormously - but not every night, probably. :)

ETA: But KB, I daren't go near the archives except to catch up with bits of current threads which I haven't read yet!  I'd literally be on the board 24 hours if I did that.

You know, death might not be so bad. After all, it means you can't get into trouble for posting immediately after yourself... ;)

Well, I meant to 'modify' but somehow I 'replied' instead!!
(may have something to do with the time!!!) ;)

That would have been nigh on impossible during that flurry of posts!

*lol* Well, yes, admittedly both these points are true!
