Title: What the future holds
Post by Felicity on Sep 1st, 2003, 12:44pm
I've read the books so thought i'd give this a try:

Con Maynard was walking back from ahving just met her first niece, earlier that morning Len had given birth to a little girl and two boys.  Her mind was troubled as often she had been whilst she still attended the chalet school which she had left a good four years ago.  It was not just that she hadn't been allowed to see her nephews as they were as healthy as everyone had hoped but hse had a feeling of dread, soming wasn't right and normally she'd talk it thgrough with her sisters, but Margot was still away at the Quadrant and Len was not yet fit enough.
Having thought over this Con ahd said it better for some of the others to go in and see Len and she could be content with seeing her niece, as Len had a habitat of knowing what she and her other triplet Margot were thinking and she didn't want to let on to Len just yet.
It wasn't until there was a car horn beeping that pulled her from her thoughts, as the car pulled up it was Dr and Mrs Shepherd, they were on the way to see Len and the new arrivals.  Mrs Shepherd was once Grizel Crochane, ont only an old girl, but old mistress of the Chalet School, and not long before her marriage had become extremley close to Len.

But Grizel knew the look too well of which they had roused Con so except for calling hello and saying she should pay her a visit soon for Kaffee and Kuchen signalled to her husband to keep going.
For one it wasn't her dreamness about the latest book on her mind, which had created legends in the school such as her answer to a question of what Daniel did in the lions den being "he bit the Lions".
She had felt lonely since returing from university, Len had been teaching whilst engaged and married, and now the proud mamma of three.  Margot had her medical degree and was still deciding whether or not to enter the order, which would mean an even greater divide as although the triplets would always have a close bond, not being able to be so close would stretch it too its limits that they had reached before and further.
It is true that she had been contenbt as a child with her imaginary story folk for friends and that, she had left the chalet school with a few firm friends, but it was this fact that was troubling her, to be more precise it was Odette.  She had been expect a letter to arrive days ago about the final arrangements for their get together, the whole group were coming out to the Platz, Ricki Fry, Ted Grandley, Ruey Richardson, all the Trips and Odette (suranme please some one?), but still nothing had come.
She turned to walk down the lane to Freundsheim, what she didn't realise was that her next youngest sister Felicity had been on the look out for her and had run down the stairs and out of the door with a cry of "So you do remember where you live, you left the San ages ago Dad rang to say you were heading home, we wnt all the news on Len and the new Trips, do you know oyu nearly walked passed the house" at which she broke into fits of giggles, partly of excitment at being an aunt nad partly for the look on Con's face for behind Con was Chas to give him his proper name Chalres looking rather worried holding an envlope out for Con.
Con had never been the most athletic member of the Maynard family, but she couldn't help herself but to break into a full sprint, ingnoring Felicity, who was give a shock by her sisters treatment of her, and turned to persue her sister into the house.
Her worries had only been noticed by Chas which is why she was sure the letter was from France, but the look of Chas faces had startled her into her run and didn't stop until she too was looking down on the paper, not to see her friends handwritting, but that of her husband, Tibor. She turned and with a quick "I don't wan to be disturbed" to Felicity who by now was standing breathless at her side for news of Len, left the house again into the garden to sit under the big tree.
She tore open the letter and after the first few lines curled her knees to her chest, burring her head in her knees to cry, it wasn't until the family St. Bernard Bruno who had woken up from a midday nap, going towards the house had found one of his mistress so deeply upset and came to offer comfort, that she realised that if she carried on crying like this she would become hysterical and ill and that created a risk of news reaching Len, which she could not allow.
The news was bad, there may still be hope..
But having been such a highly strung child it was just all too much for her to cope with for one day....

This is really good, Felicity.  I'm liking Con more and more after all the character development she's been given on various drabbles - she seems like a real person now, so please let me know what happens next.... soon!

Odette Mercier, I think

Good stuff - can't help thinking that far from being the neglected triplet, Con is getting more storylines and lovers than the other two!!

Odette Mecicer had been one of Con's first and dearest friends from when they had met all those years ago at the Chalet School. Three days had passed since the letter had arrived from France, Tibor had written to inform Con that the gathering would have to be canceled on Odettes part of things she was critically ill in hospital.
She had been hit by a car whilst taking their daughter Connie out for a shopping trip for new clothes for her visit to the Platz.
Con Maynard had been so proud that day three years ago when coming out of her lecture at university to be met my an excited Tibor.  He hade come to say that the Dötter Family had been blessed with a beautiful baby girl, it was true that Con's first instinct was to worry, Odette had come over from France to see her friend, and the birth of the baby would set back her return to her home and how disappointed Mme Mecier would be to have missed the birth of her first grandchild, as it wasn't expected for at least another month, but Tibor was devoted to his wife and under no circumstances would have left her unless all was well.  They had a quick journey to the hospital, which to poor Con had seemed never ending.  Upon her arrival at the room where a very cheerful Odette was sitting up in bed craddeling a small bundel, she was greeted in french, Odettes native language, but no problem for trilingual Con who had spent a year in Canada and spoke like a native.
"Come Cherie, meet your goddaugther, Constance Siomone Maria Julia Dötter",  Con had run to the bedside and kissed the top of her friends head and laughed that the name might be a bit of a mouthful for everyday.  But it had been decided that Con should be allowed to present the shortening for her goddaughter.
"Of course it must be Connie", after having a peep at her sleeping goddaughter as she fully agreed with her mother it was best to let sleeping babes lie. Tibor not knowing Con as well as Odette, quiered this sentance, and Con's wicked side decided to show itself, with a grin repied "Alright then as that doesn't suit you it'll be Stacie", to which was greeted with a wild protest from her friend who she knew had a great dislike for that particular shortening.  But was quickly hushed with the warning that if she made such a row she wouldn't be allowed any visitors.
That now seemed such a long time ago.
She was standing by her window her thoughts outloud, for this raeson when Joey passing the door heeard her middle triplet saying:
The sunlight glimmered upon the rose,
From raindrops that fell the pervious night,
It glided sliently from the hand so firm,
Til the impact upon the soil,
The turf lept towards the heavens,
Her remains captured by a swift gust,
To sustain her in my memory,
For the remainder of my existance.
Peered her head round the door without knocking, to say she was glad to hear her working on her poetry again as it had been her first love at writting, verse being a very strong part of her writting gift.  But was shocked to see her standing by the rain smeared window rather than sitting at her desk on the other side of the room.
Con turned her tear stained face to her mother and let out a cry of ....

"Mama" before she collapsed onto the floor, this was too much for Joey, her eldest daughter was in the San with her two eldest boys under a serious watchful eye of all the athorities and after seeing her second eldest for the first time in two days to have her name called before she collapsed, gave a shout for the boys to come and help as typically just when Jack was needed most at hoem was at the San.
SHe sat by the bedside whilst after recovering from her fainting Con slept, which Joey knew was the best thing for her, but couldn't help wonder what had caused all this.  She had been at the San for the apst few days and knowing that Anna and Rosli where at home as well as Con had decided that the family could cope without her and she was a graetb comfort to Len.
She knew it had something to do with Odette as Charles her second eldest son had come to her in her room to conffess all he knew and said the only reason she didn't know about the worry was that they, he and Con had decided the family had enogh to deal with Len as throughout her pregnacy there had been various problems, and on two occasions had come to losing one if not all three of her children.  But for the time being Joey must wait, and nothing must raech Len, so as promised she left Con's bedside to haed for the San.

Con was thankful to find her room totally empty when she woke up, she remembered little of what had occured.  Thye room was lit with bright sunshine, it wasn't unitl she wrapped her kimono around her and sat to begin brushing out her long dark, curly hair that she remembered...
It had been Odettes wedding day, she had been choosen for chief bridesmaid, and early in the morning Odette had come into her room and stood chatting gayly about all her nerves and worries about if she was too young to marry as only a year before she had been a promment member of the sixth.   Con had lauged and said that she was wrapped up in Tibor and he adored her to no ends, and that she hoped to find someone like that herself.
Recalled to her room by a knock on the door and in walked Margot, the third triplet who she ahd needed so badly those few days before.  "Awake at last, i thought you ment to sleep forever, now how about explaining to me what your little faint was in aid of and i mean to hear it all.  You seem to forget that were're triplets and we share everything, just because i have something to deal with doesn't mean that i have no time for you or Len.  Who by the way is fit as a fiddle and now demanding to be allowed out of bed and to be allowed more visitors as she sick of only mom and papa".
Con couldn't help but to laugh at this manner her younger sister even if only younger by fifteen minutes or so, had treated her too.  "You know mama said you're NOT to call her that!", but it was to use the only reply she got was to have her towle thrown at her and "to be downstairs in twenty minutes".  With the final comment Margot turned to run downstair and put on the coffee for Con.
After a quick cup of steaming hot coffee and bread and butter the two girls were heading out of the house, walking towards the stream,  Con had wondered when Margot had come she had only written a while ago to say that she many not be able to come to the reunion as matters where not settled for her yet, but here she was chattering as happily as ever, swinging her hat in her hand and skipping partly along the road, not acting exactly as a young lady of twenty-two should.
When they reached the edge of the pine woods, Margot raced ahead giving a long low call ahead which was replied with a familar and similar call.  SHe was surprised to see a picnic already laided out at variuos friends taknig part in activities.  Steve, Roddy, Chas,  Mike, Roger, Felix and someone who Con did not recognise, were playing a small game of cricket, while Ruey sat on the ground reading her book aloud too Ceicl who was busy with some sewing, finally Felicity, Phil and Geroff were paddeling in the stream.  "You may have forgotten we're all here but we haven't forgotten you, forget whats been worring you and we'll talk all you want later".  Once MArgot dug her toes in there was no changing her mind, this whirlwind treatment cleared Con's mind so she sat down with the others to enjoy a lucious meal including Anna's meast pies, an asortment of friut, sandwichs and cakes, topped of with some of Joey's summer fruit cocktail that cooled you down no end.
Whilst they all cleared, Con noticed a small and delicate ring on Ruey's left finger and exclamed, she knew by now that the stranger in the group was Daivd Bywater, who was at university with Roger, but engaged to Ruey as well.  SHe looked up and met Con's eyes her face slightly flushed with embrassment, she ahd ment to tell Con, but with the unexpected arrival in the Entwhisle family and then Con fainting it had been pushed to the back of her mind as all the others knew and had congratulated her.  SHe was so happy that Ruey had finally found someone, since her dad had gone off to explore space and never returned, she had always seemed at a bit of a loss where family where concerned, she considered the Manards children like extra brothers and sisters and had her own brothers, but she had always felt something was missing and now that was gone.
But something glimmered in her eyes, hse thought that no one else had noticed, but Magot had just caught it, although her idea of being with the family had brought Con round slightly, she saw that it ahd by no means been enough, her talk with her sister could not wait any longer.

Margot had always been an imp for mischief, ever since she was a little girl, and at first with delicate health Joey had always been determined that if her life on earth was short it would be as happy as possible and now she worried that with having been allowed to live more freely than her other sisters that infact that is why Con had not confided in her and that it was partly her own fault whatever was wrong with Con, she may nt had the insight into other people or 'know how to get inside people skin' like Len, but she was a very good lisener and given the chance to think things over, could be very useful.
Con felt better, for once in many days her mind had been cleadred slightly, but on walking back to Fredsheim she remembered Tibors letter and that she ahd not finished it, the truth was she couldn't/hadn't been able face it, the frist part had been so terrible.  But she shook her head she wasn't a funk, what if the rest proved to be better news but she went on in this depression as she was to spinless to continue a simple letter, and most of all what would that say about the chalet school which prides itself on turning out strong young ladies and not spineless jellyfish!
SHe raced up to her room shutting her door behind her and ran to the dresser to find the letter, she remember having shoved it in there earier.  Maybe all she remembered wasn't true as she hadn't finished the letter maybe there was a chance.....

Her hand slightly shook as she reached inside to envlope, she read through the letter, but maybe she did really neeed help now, she went to her door having to decided to seek Margot out, but as fortune had it Margot was walking down the corridor to the nursery with a try of milk for there own Kaffee and Kuchen. The sight of Con peering through the door made Margot rush to the nursey and decline the offer to stay and play with her brothers and sisters, her triplet needed her.
Con had left the door open with the tinest crack, so when Margot walk through she coukd quickly close it again before anyone call call them or interupt.  Con held the letter out to Margot and said "read this, this is my problem!", Mrgot was normally and quick reader, but the writting was closer to a scrawl than anything else.
"No, read the letter out loud so i can hear it again" and so she began:
Dear Con,
I hardly know exactly where to being, there's been and accident Oddette was hit by a car three days ago, she's been in and out of conscience the doctors dought if she will live.  I'm writting to you as i found a letter which Odette had begun to you as i was asked to check her bag and note it contance.  This is the first time since the accident i have left the hospital, but Mme Mercier arrived late last night and after one look at me said i was all in and in no use to anyone in that state, and would not make a welcome sight to her daughter when she came round.
As you can gather this means that Odette will not be making her visit to the Platz.  Would be so kind as to inform all the others as to what has occured, i can only face writting this once and  and i dare not be away from my darling Odette for to long.  I must go i will write again soon.
Tibor
"Oh daring, why didn't you call me or cable me or anything, i would have come straight away, here you are dealing with Len and her boys in danger adn then your dearest friend hanging on the edge of life, i can only imagion what you've been going through, i can only think what if it was Len and Emmy".
"You've not finished yet there's another sheet in the envlope, you haven't read about Connie yet"Con's voice trailed off towards the end of her sentance.  Not remembering another sheet of paper inside Margot reach in to find nothing there, "Con dear there's nothing here are you sure there's more of the letter, Tibors name is at the end of the back page?  Maybe your just tired and, and you dreamed hte other page?".
Maybe she had, but no she had only raed it moments ago, she left the letter in the bed in order to go and seek Margot, she had never even left the room, unless...

Could I just point out that the teacher in question was a total wallaby and an embarrassment to humankind, who couldn't even find her way to the right golfclub for the public speaking competition winners' dinner!  (And indeed had difficulty distinguishing her a-r-s-e from her elbow, which might explain why she was always so badly dressed).

i decided to take pity on you all and with xan finally off the computer i can continue...

"unless.. " upon this last work Con turned and ran to the window, she had opened it as the room had become stuffy and the day was warm enough, before placing the letter on the bed she had left it on the night table, next to the wide open window.  She pulled back the sloping net curtain to scan the ground below, a small square piece of paper was there resting on top of the green berry bush below the window.  Con let out a low whisle of thanks that was a far as it had fallen, it turned quickly to a shriek causing Margot to run over to her sisters side, a light gust had caught up the paper and was carrying it away.
They turned at once and headed outside, in the rush Margot tripped and fell headlong down the stairs, giving her elbow a nasty bash as she went, her scream brought people from every direction Steve and Charles from the study, Felicity, Felix, Celci, Roddy and Mike from the Saal and Ruey and David through the front door, to be greeted with a scene of confusion after a long stroll around the Platz.  Con left them to deal with her sister she must get the letter back.  When she reached the last spot where she had seen her letter heading towards she began to search high and low she never noticed that there was someone sitting in the summer house, until a friendly call of "Lost something?", reach her ears, startaling her so much that as she spun round she nearly toppled, and would have done so if she had not been caught by a pair of strong arms.
As Con looked up she blushed, she found herself gazing into a pair of deep and sensative eyes, that she knew well, but had never noticed the beauty of before.  When standing upright again, but sit in each others arms Roger repeated the question, as both were embrassed and couldn't think of anything else that could be said, he had been beginning to notice a difference in a way he saw the middle triplet, but as far as he knew she saw him as nothing more as another member of the family, but in those moments he could have sworn he had she a glimmer in Con's eyes and a flush in her cheeks he had not seeen before.

As sounds of footsteps reached their ears they pulled away from each other,
"You should sit down you could have seriouly hurt yourself, how about you come into the summer house and expalin what made you so oblivious to me being here?"
Con was reluctant to give anything away, everything seemed to be coming at just at the moment and her head was starting to ache again badly, not that she would admit it, the best thing she could do was give as brief an explanation as possible.  Whatever Con had expect for Roger him smiling and trying had not to laugh was the last thing.  In the end he could not contain himself and let out his roaring laugh.
"You should get your pretty head down on earth more often" he chosen to ignore first Con rosey cheeks and her attempt to interupt him and continued "if it's a scrap of writting paper your looking for have you tried the hall table, i found the paper flying around a minute ago nad poped it on the table as i had no clue to who it belonged.
With a squeal of delight Con flung her arms round him, leaving a startled Roger behind as she raced to the halll to find the rest of her precious letter on the table just as she had said.
But having got the letter her mood sombered again as she glanced down remembering it's contents she still needed to hear it out loud, but with Margot having gone off to have her arm properly examined, who was left the others were all still too young to understand, she now felt there was only one perosn left in the house who she could ask such as favor of, she must seek them out.  It was with a different air she entered the room and walked slowly towards...

"erm, Roger, can i have a word?" Con whispered, making the startled boy jump, but before lifting his eyes from his paper replied "You can and indeed may", but as he lifted his head he saw the solum look on Con's face, his smile vanished and took her hand drawing her down beside him.
Con tried to speak, but she couldn't make the words come out, it hurt Roger to see Con like this.  He gave her hand a gentle squeeze to try and encourage her, but it had an unexpected result of Con brusting into tears. Her head buried in his broad shoulders, she found herself unable to stop.  Thinking it was the best thing for her to do he let her cry, but having been around Dr Maynard for years saw that if Con didn't stop soon she would make herself ill.   Instead on treating her like a young lady of twentytwo he took her shoulders and gave her a short sharp shake, and when she slowed down and gulped a few times ordered her of to the washroom to splash her face and then come back to him.
A rather meek Con emerged back in the Saal ten minutes later.  She sat down, but kept her distance from him, there was an aquwardness between them, she couldn't explain it she didn't want him to know anymore, but then she wanted to confid everything in him.
"You remember what i told you earlier", seeing his nod of recognistion she continued, "well there's more to the letter Connie, my godaughter was with Odette, it's not that Tibor doesn't care for his daughter he does she is very dear to his heart, but last he had known she had meet a friend during the shoppig trip and he thought she had remained there with her friend whilst Odette went to collect a final package.  I can't go on reda it for yourself" she handed him the letter and began to read from where Con had finished,  "Worst news has just reached me adn i hsaave failed as a father, Connie was not at the front of my mind, it finally occured to me to call the Stewards as after all Connie is my daughter and if her mother doesn't have long left she should see her at least on emore time, but Con, when i spoke to Mme Steward, she said she had not seen Coonie since Odette had delayed in leaving the cafe so had, ahd to taker Connie with her.  The driver of the car is still in to much shock to remember if he saw Connie or not, if i got my hands on him he'd remember quick enough, but the point is no one hasseen my baby.  The accident was about a mile from our home, and as no one who attended the scene knew our family no one considered it, it all happened by the river that runs along the lane, it was the enbankment there where Oddette was thrown to.  Do you realise this meansd that apart from losing my wife i may already have lost my daughter and not even realised.
Please write soon, come as soon as possible you are so close to us all especially my darling Odette.
Tibor.
Well have you replied", Con shoook her head.
He crouched down infront of her lifting her head by her chin, "You know you must, how about getting Jack to contact someone at the hospital?"
"No i can't Len's baby boys are still on the line, i can't bother them, any of them!"
"What about Mme de Bersrac, your aunt doesn't she live near them, Odette's likely yo be in the big Paris hospital, perhaps she could help til you can get there yourself?"  Much to her surprise Con leaned forward and kissed Roger, berfore fleeing from the room, leaving Roger to wonder and voice his thoughts out loud "that......

i have discovered something very evil >:(, apart from my sisters threat to wake me up in the mornings, my friend has just told me that i can't post anything on notice boards when i go back to school as they have filters to stop it which will put a stop to my story writting as i'm out two or three nights a week not to mention weekends and i'll have homework :(

Chloe, I wasn't criticising you - I was just agog to know what was coming next and I knew that I was going to have to go to work, I'm sorry if I upset you - I didn't mean to.
Please write some more later, the lost baby idea is fascinating, and I really do want to see more of this story.

"will it ever be possible to get that girl to sit down with me for a few minutes before dashing from the room, i don't think i've ever had quiet this effect on a woman before" to which he rolled his eyes.
But his comment had not gone unheard, with Con's flight from the room he had forgotten the door was still open and with such a crowd in Freudshiem, its more than possible from someone to be wandering along the hall.   Having heard these comments stopped dead in their tracks and fleed back to the main group in the dinning room saying Con wasn't going to have dinner with them she was on the phone.
After having cleared the study Con had picked up the phone reciever, luckily Simone de Berserac,  Simone Lecoutier from eariler cronicals of the chalet school was another member of the quartete, which joey herself belonged to, even after all these years, marriage and each having a long family to look after the four were still close.
"Tante Simone, oh it is you of course i new that it's Con here", having known the triplets since birth Simone knew something was wrong and having had a letter a few days ago from Joey jumped to the conclusion it was Len or her babies,
"What is wrong cherie, Len and the babies..", forgetting all her manners interupted, but realised that she had no real idea of how her sister, niece and nephews were, filling her with embrassment, she could deal with that later this couldn't wait so shaking her head began to recite the story again, a task which she had not intended to do more than twice, but due to circumstances seemed impossible.  "Well..." there was no reply from the other end of the phone as Con finished, she could hear movemnet and a russling sound, but that was all.
"Ma peite" Simone began, which made Con laugh as she was by now at least a head taller than her honory aunt, "but indeed i know some of the story, it is in the paper this morning, i had no idea the last time i saw Odette was whilst she was still engaged, as you to came to stay with us during your visit to her and i had not put together that she is now Mme Dtter, the same as in the paper.  But of course i will go to them and help all i can, i must go now though send my love to all and tell Len i can't wait to see her children and ask Joey how it feels to be old enough to have grandchildren and wont be too long before she's a greatgrandmother and might have to grow up a little"to which she let out a little chortle imagining Joey's reaction, "goodbye cherie i shall write as soon as i can".
It was too this she hung up on her word, with the knowledge that someone was there to help Odette, Con slumped down into the chair behind the desk where she had perched, and thought.  Firstly how quiet it was, which was most unlike the house normally and where could she get more information about Len as she had not heard anything since she had gone to the San.  Her best bet was to find the family and spend some time with them, before if able being allowed to visit her elder sister.
She only had to look out of the window to know where the family would be, time had flown passed as the night had decented onto them those still awake would be reading or in bed themselves, not too much noise as they wanted to hear the moment someone arrived back from the San with the latest news of Len.
Thinking her mind was at rest she decided to head staight for bed, a good nights sleep adn she'd be ready from anything the next day could throw at her, but the day had not yet ended for Con, it ha in some was only just begun.

Sorry to disapoint but xan will not agree as a) she wants the computer now and then nad b) wan ts me to go to school and get a-levels :P

but i'm bored as my friends say i'm too wrapped up in my story to be fun ::) for those of you who for some strange reason like my writting i shall continue:

Con's eyes closed as found herself fast asleep the moment her head touched the pillow, to dream for hours.  It was to no surpise that Joey like all good mothers slept with one ear open rowsed almost the moment she sensed a problem.  For an unkonwn reason as when she slipped sliently into the night nursery found all well there.  She headed round all the rooms on that floor, but everytime she entered she found a child sound asleep.  Deciding that it was her mind filled with worry over Len and the new triplets she turned to walk back along the corridor to her room, when a thump came from above.
She turned on her heels and much more like a school girl than a proud mamma of twelve sped up the stairs and too the bathroom, there was a light on, pushing open the door she found only Margot stouping down to pick up a glass, she glanced up as her mother entered and in the low tone she had been taught to use rather than a whisper which would caryy much more apologised for getting her out of bed she ahd woken up wanting a drink but  her arm was still sore and she had taken the bandage off which would have given it the necessary support needed to not drop the glass.
Seeing as was well she departed only to give a startled gasp, causing Margot to drop the glass this time only to smash it.  The sight she saw startled her as well, but it was one not unkown to them, Con in her white nightdress walking towards them,  Joey slightly ashamed of her reaction, muttered to herself "i should have expected this, Con's been all revved up for days, i guess that it had been so long since she last sleept walked that she had finally grown out of it".
At the same momnet the phone rang, Margot quicker than her mother ran off down to the side room where a phone extension had been put to answer the phone leaving Joey to the task of getting Con safely back to bed, it was just as she finished tucking Con back into bed that MArgot crept inside the room.
"Dad was on the phone, Len's roused up and wont settle until she's seen you again, nothings worked and dad wants you over at the San as soon as possible and say's he'll also give you some tonic for Con", Margot chortled at this unaware that Con was waking from her slumbers, as she pictured Con's face at the news she would have to start taking the tonic again.

The Maynard family had always been an erly crowd as a rule so ofr Con to be up and putting on a pot of coffe and getting rolls, and jam out for the family was of no surprise.  Margot was only a short while behind her triplet, this being Annas day off and thought she should set up before the rest were up and about.
On reaching the kitchen she saw Con and said it was stupid to ask if she had got back off to sleep as she looked much fitter than she had in days.  Con just laughed at this, as Joey ahd rushed off to the San she had gone down to her parents sleep for the rest of her night, her sleep was disturbed by first Mike asking her to go to Felix, who was in the bathroom, whne she got there it was to find Felicity leaning over her twin, who looked in a very sorry state, he had been very sick, Con saw it was nothing more than a billious attack and turn on Mike to demand what her younger brothers had been eating.  Mike had no choice but to own up, he, Roddy and Felix had gorged on various items the day before and Felix had eaten six cream cakes, it was a goodbye feast as at the end of the week Mike was going to Dartmouth Naval facility to start his navel career.  Felicity lost the worried look on her face and started to scold her twin, but Con intervined saying "He's punished hiself enough, Fe he doesn't need you to add to it, off to bed with you".
Having settled them, her next rousement was from Phil, she too had picked up Con's trat of sleepwalking although all she ever did was walk into her aprents room and snuggle down in the bed, so she had to carry the younger girl back to her room and tuck her in nice and tightly.
Margot who on the floor above ahd missed all of this having taking something to relieve the pain in her arm had slept soundly until the light broke through the window, laughed.
The other members of the house walked in on the scene all execpt some of the youngest and Felix who had been order to stay in bed til someone went to him the next morning.  Some began to wish that they had not entered the room as one look from Con startled Mike and Roddy as she turned to fetch the caster oil, but no sympathy could be got after being dosed as they, goodnees knows how had not been troubled by what they had eaten before bed.
Rogers greeting in the kitchen involved mostly giggiling from the younger people and not much more, what he had said aloud had spread, yet he, Con, Steve, Chas and Margot had no idea what it was all in aid of.
Having idsposed of a small breakfast each, they each had chores dished out.  Margot had worked it so she and Con were left alone to finish thier chat.  She had spoken with her mother, who told her what the last tihngs she had heard Con say before she collapased and wondered.  Margot knew the only way to get a striaght answer was to de direct,
"Con what were you saying before you fainted, mum said it was some kind of poetry?"
"Oh that, it was..was something that i wrote two yeasr ago, but just re-worded, something that just came into my head, that was all."
"I gather it has something to do with Odette, but what, please i don't like it when we keep secrets from each other,"  Margot was able to be very persasieve when she chose adn this won Con round.
"You remember Odette and Tibor lost their little boy Sebastian, well i couldn't ger away from uni to go to the funeral so i wrote then a poem to read at it instead, and i just thought would i have to stand up and read it at Odettes funeral!"
"I thought you'd given up writting poetry as it was soo long since you had to my knowledge, that m,ust have been one of the last you wrote, please let me hear it, mamma said it was beautiful".  Thus erged Con began, her voice slightly shook as she said,
"The sunlight glimmered upon the rose,
from the raindrops that fell the previus night,
it glided silently from the hand so firm,
til the impact upon the soil,
the turf lept towards the heavans,
his remains captured by a swift gust,
to sustain him in my memory.
For the remainder of my existance,
i dream of an age united once more,
every instance since then,
when a breeze rises
it sweeps across my face
i am aware of his company."
Margots blue eyes were brimming with tears at the beautiful words her sister had just spoken, seeing the look on her face Con stooped over her sister and gave her a hug and kiss her mop of redy golden curls.

The mood in the kitchen was broken as Jack walked in he cleared his throat seeming very strained, but not so much in a bad way, but more as if he wasn't sure how to begin.
He turned to Margot,
"Len's allowed other visitors and demanded that you and Con should see her right away, your mother's gone for a sleep, she a Len talked for a long time last night so warn the others not to wake her", a look of horror appeared on his daughters faces, "don't look so horror stuck she just needs some rest, alots been going on and she could never pace herself, she be back to her usualself after a nap".
Margot flung herself on her father with excitment she then ran fromth room to gab her hat and head for the San.  Con moved to leave the room to follow her sister, but Jack stopped her,
"Of course you will want to see Len too, but come to my study first there's something we need to discuss."  Searching her mind for anything she could have done to deserve this treatment from her father, Con could not help but look guilty when she entered.
"Calam down my child, you're not in trouble, as a matter of fact i think you'll going to like what i have to say if what i've had from Felicity and Ceciel is anything to go by",  Con just stood staring in amasment, what on earth was her father talking about.
"Sit down and i'll explain.  Yesterday i had a visit from Roger", the mention of his name caused a flood of colour in her face,"he came to the San and was very formal with me, as it happened you mother was in the office with me and wasn't in the least surprised by the conversation we had, but i said it reminded me of a conversation i had about four years ago adn that you must be consulted and..." here he was interupted as Charles the third Maynard boy was yelling his head off for Con .  Obviously distracted by Charles Jack noded his head as a sign that Con could go to him, leaving the room she called back,
"Shut up you idiot mamma is resting you'll wake her up if you carry on",
"But, but" he couldn't help stammering at the tone he had been addressed in, he had only been tring to help, " phone, france, call Tante Simone", he got no further Con had grabbed the reciever off him and was talking as fast as possible down the phone, having gathered there was good news he wondered back off to finish his book. As she dropped the reciver down none other than the three R's walked through the door,  Con turned to face them, everyone stopped dead in their tracks.  Only Ruey had the sense to push Roger forward and try and pull Roddy away with her.  The both moved forward again, barely an inch between them, the gaze between them broken, by a cough from the right of them,
"I see no need to finish our conversation then Con", they both turned to face Dr Maynard, Con slipped her arms round Roger, as a sign of agreement but was pink to the tips of her ears.
"Well then isn't there something else that you need to do?" turning to look at his new son-in-law, words failed Roger, but his ever ready borther who had raelised himself from his sisters grip and raced back to the hall said it all with...

Only time for a little more right now :):

"Errggghhhh, everyone's turned  to romance and baby worship", this statment caused most of the party to collapse into fits of laughter, except Roger who marched his younger brother off, muttering some of the most scathing comments possible and that frankly Roddy didn't know his brother had in him.  Ruey walking down the stairs caught her brother eye and cocked her head in the direction of the dinning room, which could be almost garenteed to be empty at this time.
"I didn't think you thought you get your answer so soon, so am i right in guessing you're as unprepared as ever", to which she produced a small ring box from her dress pocket and placed it on the table, sliding it along to her brother.
"Mum made me put it somewhere safe and promise her before she died that i would give it to you or Roddy when they got engaged, thougth she focused more on you, knowing Roddy's opinion, which by the way he voiced as well as ever just know", ending her speach with a chuckle.

Chloe, I would really like to see some more, but not at the expense of your school work! (Yes, I realise I probably sound like a boring old fart, but never mind!)

I know how hard it is to switch off when you are in the midst of writing, and can fully sympathise with Con being always referred to as "moony", but your schoolwork is important too. As you mentioned A-Levels, I am guessing this is your last year at school? Lots of luck with those, and please only write if you have the time and have managed to placate your sister!

Rachel ~ aware she is getting involved in potential sibling spats once more!

Chloe I agree with Rachel. I've been recently writing a drabble and found it's taken over priority from everything else - work, sleep, eating the lot! If you have important exams coming up it may be as well to place this on back burner until half term!

Must say though I'll be looking forward to the posts then!

Having just finished a story and being aware how much it can take over your life I would echo the advice.

Get yourself settled into a good work rountine and only write if you have time. Wait until half term, or set a certain hour or so aside each week and stick to it. (Depending on your level of self control. Personaly I'd have to wait, once started I'd find it too difficult to stop.)

We all value your contribution, so don't get yourself banned, that would be too sad.

I'm enjoying your story Chloe, but I agree with everyone else - your A levels should come first, once you start writing down one idea you keep getting another and it does tend to take over your life a bit.
I look forward to seeing some of the story at half term though.

Meanwhile over at the San, Margot had reached the door into her sisters room, she paused and leaned against the wall.  With a sigh she pushed open the door and ran in as cheerful and to all appearances as happy as ever.
“Oh darling, I’m so glad like mum said to auntie Madge, its wrong being a twin and not having twins of your own, and you’re a triplet and have triplets of your own”, stooping she kissed Lens chestnut curls that flowed down her back and onto her pillows.
“I’m so happy Margot, I know people had their doubts, but I am really, truly”, the look on her face said it all, but there were faint worry lines that had appeared on her face.  “I have to say it’s about time you and Con were allowed to visit me, I know that Grizel and Biddy were good company, but it’s unfair, we’re triplets which means that we’re so close, but only doctors wives were allowed as they now patients limits and I call that cheek”, sounding much more like a student of the chalet school, than former teacher and now proud mamma of three.
Perched on the side of the bed they chatted until the door opened and Reg himself appeared, “Now ladies you must say goodbye for the moment at any rate”, Len looked up hopefully but Reg shook his head, “I’m afraid not sweetheart, you must wait for another time to see Con, you have enough to cope with, our three are coming to join their mamma”.
Forgetting the worry she had caused people, Len threw back her bed covers and started to climb out, but Margot was too quick for her, “Oh no you don’t Mrs. You’ve not been up for weeks for nothing and however much better you feel now if this is the way you’re going to react every time you see someone or hear good news you can forget about Con’s visit”,  chuckling Len slipped back between her covers “You know you really are Papa’s daughter and if that’s the way you’re going to treat all your patients I feel very sorry for them”, but Len had begun to regret her swift movement, and was going to be thankful to be left alone with her children, the visit had taken a lot out of her.
“Give me one and two Reg, you can hold Elisabeth”,
“So you chose her name at any rate, and as for being Papa’s girl, your mamma’s girl alright”, leaving the room Margot imagined, the reaction people would have to Len playing the same trick that her mother had done at the time of their birth and the annoyance with it back then.
Grabbing her bicycle from outside, she pushed it along for a while thinking….

I REALLY don't like long hours of homework but it paid off as in my free lesson today i managed a bit more....

“Everyone else seems to have a direction”, she thought, “Len’s got her family, Mike’s got the Navy, Roger’s got the waterworks, Con’s got her writing, I’ve got a degree but no direction.  I thought I had but Emmy does always tease that I never know my mind from one moment to the next, but now well… well I just don’t know”.  It seemed to be an endless flow of thoughts but Margot was pulled up short, but a call from behind.  She’d been about to mount her bicycle and head back home, when Dr Myers had seen her through the window.
“I’ve been trying to get someone your end on the phone, the line must be down, we’ve got two new patients on their way and we need your dad, come to that we could always use an extra pair of hands if you’re at a loose end”, he ended with a smile as he was a close friend having meet Margot many times whilst they studied at university, being only a year ahead of her.
“Oh thanks, I was going that way now I’ll pass the message on to dad though I doubt if I’ll be back, Mum’s expected back any day now, she’s gone to collect Auntie Daisy, she’s been away at Penny Rest for the past few weeks, and wont she be mad that Len’s only one behind her now and her an old married woman, unlike our Len”, giggling more like a school girl than women of twenty-two she set off.
Upon reaching Freundsheim Margot dropped her bicycle and ran inside shouting with all the breath she had left in her, “Papa, papa!”, the silence in the house broken brought Joey down from the nursery,
“What’s wrong, he’s gone to the San and won’t be back until later tonight, didn’t you see him on your way back?”
“No I came the back way, past the Everett’s place,  I’m not sure if Audrey was there I doubt it and I know Mrs Everett was unwell earlier this week which would explain Win hanging over the railing, tough I did give her a ticking off for misbehaving at her age and I know that the Gardeners are back in England for a while with young Cecile for company with Val.  They’ll be back next week as Peter’s got his final check-up before he gets the all clear, it’s been a long process, but he’s fitter than ever now.”

*carrying on with proper work now*

With Jennie's post about unfinished drabbles i thoguht it about time that i continued with this...

A week had pasted, Len and her family had gone to the Tirensee for a few weeks, Reg had been thankful to get his wife off, but a telegram arrived from them after only two weeks causing a sensation,
“Mamma, Mamma they’ve named them, there coming home next week, as Ricki, Ted and Ruey will all be here and their godmother’s to Elis, Lull and Tay”
“What did you say my grandsons are called?”
“Llewellyn and Taylor, they’ve pitched on all English names” Margot ran off to spread the news.
It was the day after the christening that they all gathered together; they walked slowly down the corridors, Ricki, Ruey, Len, Margot, Con and Ted had not all been together since they had left school, they paused and let Con go in for a moment alone with her friend.
The patient who had needed Dr Maynard weeks ago had been Odette as the Paris hospital had done all it could for her, she had been to see her closest friend many times since she had arrived on the Platz but this was different.
The head resting on the pillow turned to smile at Con,
“Cherie, do not worry all is well, if fact so much so I have a favour to ask”, rushing to her side she bent down and kissed her mane of hair spread across the pillow,
“Anything that can be done will be”
“Tante Con, Auntie Con, tante Con” came a cry from the balcony and a small girl, the image of her mother ran into the outstretched arms followed by a tall blonde man,
“Tibor, I did not know you would be here and that this bouncing bet would be well enough”
“We were unsure it took so long to find her, but I had had to face the shame of what I had done, it broke my heart “his voice shook as he remembered, Odette put out her hand and drew him close,
“No Cherie, let us not dwell, what has past, has past”
Another familiar head popped round the door,
“Hello old thing can you deal with a few more visitors as Con seems to have forget we exist?”
“Oui, the more the merrier”,
“I will take my leave of you ladies, come Connie, Mamma will be alone with…”
“Oh no you don’t it’s been too long Connie will stay here with Mamma, you’ve had her for weeks by yourself” with a bow he turned to leave the room
It had been a shock to the others they had no idea that Connie would have been up to travelling from Paris so soon,
“Oddette darling you do know this is slightly confusing how is it that it took so long for Connie to be found?”
“That ma petite is easy, she was not with me, I had been going along the lane as you know when I was hit, Connie was with Mme Fedant, she is a lonely old lady, who I visit once a week as she is unable to get out and has no phone, she was so pleased to see us and adores Connie I had a few last things to get so she stayed there it wasn’t until, the Gendarmes started house to house enquires that she was found”,
“But you are so forgiving about it all, Tibor in effect forgot about his own daughter” Ricki spoke in a low tone so Connie would not hear,
“I a way yes, but he thought she was safe with someone, and she was just not with anyone he knew, and he ahs seen so little of her, he often forgets that’s she is not the little baby who we can leave at home with Michelle anymore” with Connie climbing up onto her mother’s bed she changed tone, “You had fun did you not staying with Mme Fedant and now with Papa”
“Oui Mama but seeing you is nice too” which she snuggled down against her a began to dose.

Just time for a little bit...

It wasn’t until all three of the triplets had bayed goodbye to their guests and gathered in the Saal that they had a chance to be alone, Reg was at the San and Elisabeth, Taylor and Llewellyn had been put to bed.
“Well I think gathering are always adventurous just remember our coming of age events” Margot spoke with great feeling, Len gave a shuddered as she remembered a narrow escape she and Grizel had, had on one of their expeditions, “Oh Len I’m such a pig, I never thought, but at least it brought Grizel and Neil together”, they sat reminiscing until a voice from the doorway disturbed them,
“Don’t you open your door any more?” came the voice they all knew
“Mamma, we did not hear you, how did you get in I’m sure the door was shut and locked”
“The front yes, but since when did I have to stand on ceremony at my own daughter’s home?” she stopped and smiled as she gazed at her first born,  “You’ll have to learn to keep one ear open with those three” glancing upwards, “Anyway I came to invite you all for English tea tomorrow afternoon, can you come?”
Laughing Margot stood to offer her a seat, “Why so formal Mother, anyway I live at home, so I’ll be there, I can’t speak for the others” with a nod from Con Len replied for them both,
“We’ll be there at sixteen, are you staying or not as these had better go now the boys are up early and I need my sleep”
With that they left though as they walked home Con spoke to Margot, “She’s up to something for a ducat”, with agreement she wished her sister goodnight

Only managed a small bit in my free periods today on this one but if you're reading sisters as well did more on that one...

Having spoken a few words with Anna, she left her children in Anna’s capable hands.  Left with the children of her first wards she swelled with pride as she remembered cradling their mother and her sisters over twenty years ago.
She found Con and Joey already in the Saal, even in his old age Bruno had a tendency to act more like the puppy he was when he entered the Maynard family and flung himself on the unsuspecting Len.

Well my plot bunny's gone off and i have no idea how this'll finish now...

Having rushed down the stairs already breathless entering the Saal Margot nearly fell over her eldest sister, she saw Con and her mothers lying against each other crying with laughter,
“Off, Bruno, get off her” he lifted his face a meet Margot’s eyes and retreated to lie in front of his mistress’s chair, “up you get Len no damage down, though you may need to re-do your hair” she said pulling Len to her feet with a little giggle,
“Maybe I should have it bobbed like you Margot, and then I wouldn’t need to worry about it so much!”
“I can just hear Reg on the subject no thank you, anyway it’s not as easy to keep tidy as you think my dear” with which Len went, returning a few minutes later respectable once more.
“So Mamma why such a formal meeting, normally you call at the last moment”
“Well I have something I want to discuss with you” taking a deep breath Joey began, “Your father has been presented with a knighthood for his work with TB and overall dedication to medicine, this is a wonderful achievement for him, gut it may mean we move back to England” a look of horror appeared on her daughters faces “you know we always said we would like to go back to England after ten years or so and this would be the prefect time, but I spoke with Jack last night and we agreed I must talk with you before anything was final”
“Mamma I understand you will want to go with Papa, but I don’t understand why we must be spoken too before you make your decision?” Margot spoke showing that in some ways underneath her sophisticated exterior she was still much the youngest of the triplets,
“That is because your plans affect ours and the other way too,  it would mean asking Len if she would be able to look after any of the younger crowd during half term and other holidays, Con we wondered where you and Roger were planning to settle, we know you can write from anywhere, but we were unsure of where Roger will be based as I know he just went for a promotion, and Margot…” she stopped and looked at the youngest of the triplets she was unsure of what to say,
“And nobody has a clue about me, and I can’t give an answer yet that is” Margot spoke as though she had read her mothers mind.
“I must speak to Reg before I agree with anything, but is it what you want Mamma?, you wont be so close to the school or the girls and I know when we were in Canada you did miss it greatly” Len spoke with deep feeling, just being in Oxford she had felt a slight longing to be back at the Platz though she had never told anyone, though she suspected Con knew at least.
“I’ll be nearer the boys for once, you girls have had your fair share of me being right next door all the time, as for talking with Reg I understand completely, I shall be happy anywhere as long as your father and I are together” she turned to gaze out on the window her eyes falling on the Jungfrau, the maiden, “and you Con you have not said a word?”
“Like Len I must speak to Roger before I commit to anything” from here the subject was dropped and they spent the rest of the afternoon reminiscing about old times and old friends.  That was until a cry from above brought Len to her feet, “That’ll be Ty for a ducat, and he’ll set the other two off, I must settle him and then take my leave me thinks”.

Just a little for today...

“I’ve got three young children why does Mamma think I can take on her role too?” Len had spent the whole evening retelling the events earlier that day,
“I suspected when Jack was all secretive over a letter eh received at the San a week ago, but darling, it’s part of you, the eldest of sixteen, I know that Roger is older than you, but you’ve always felt the biggest sense of responsibility and you’ll manage, any way you never know what the future may bring” Reg replied with a twinkle in his eye,
“You know something, what, you’re not supposed to keep secrets for me we’re married now”
“Pot calling kettle black”
“What have I ever kept from you that you should have known about?” Len wanted to get to the bottom of this insinuation
“Our sleeping babes, my dear, which won’t remain so if you shriek, like that” Reg was watchful Len still needed a lot of rest he had been worried for a long time if he would keep his wife and children, “I seem to remember several people knowing before me!”
“But Con, Margot and I have always known stuff like that about each other, we kin of sense it, I didn’t say a word and I wanted to be sure before I told you” Len had always been unsure when she should break the news to Reg and she had left it to the latest moment,
“Telling me just because it wouldn’t be long before you began to show is cutting things fine and with all my early morning shifts I suppose it was fairly easy” he waited to see if she would take the bait,
“Oh don’t say that I didn’t intend to leave it so long, but the time was never right and then, you had to go to England, but I was covering at school and, and...“as she glanced up “you’re pulling my leg, you rotter!” she jumped up and made for Reg, skilfully he bent down and picked Len up,
“No, no you mustn’t Reg your back, you not to pick me up, put me down” Len shuddered at the memory of when Reg had injured his back when she had taken some of the younger years for a walk and then later that term when he had gone missing,
“Len, darling, that was a long time ago, don’t dwell on the past, if anything I’m grateful, I began to wonder if you would ever grown up and notice me” he said placing her back onto the sofa.

They just needed a little holiday i think Vikki as there back and keeping me busy today...

Crumpling a letter in her hand Margot let out a big sigh, she had intended to go out for a walk, but just before she had left this letter had arrived for her, she had sought solitude in the room she had first shared with her sister when the arrived in Switzerland, looking round the room she moved to stand by the window, the position of her first bed, where she’d sat disappointed as her mother had told her it would mean she wouldn’t be allowed the window open properly, as the memories swirled in her head she never noticed Bruno enter and potter over to lean out on the window at the side of his mistress, as an automatic reaction Margot stroked his brown and white soft coat,
“That’s it I’ve made my decision, I must go and join them, Reverend Mother was right when we last spoke”.
“Len can we come to you for afternoon tea, we all need to sit down and talk, I’d rather it wasn’t  done here at the moment, I’ll explain when you see me” with which she dropped the receiver and went in search of her mother and sister,
“Mum, can you come to Len’s for afternoon tea, you too Con, go see you there, I’ve got to do something else first” leaving Joey to call behind her,
“You’ve been told not to call me that” laughing she added to Con, “you’re the one who’s supposed to be in a whirlwind state not her!”
As Margot left the gates at Freundsheim, she was not far down the road when the person she had set out in search for strolled into view, she ran up to him,
“Can you come to Len’s with Mamma and Con for tea, I’m on my way out so can’t stop now, you’ll understand later” with a kiss on the cheek she was off again and Jack Maynard stood scratching his head with curiosity.

*Wonders how people can manage to write two different drabbles at the same time.

Well i can easily say on my part it's my lack of consentration ::)
which i need to control better but by writting two drabbles i can write more than if i was just writing the one as it means i can let my mind wonder from one to the other and still be productive at the same time (if that makes any sense) ;) :)
