(because everyone was clamouring for a daft story i thought i'd start one! Here goes!)

'Good greif Hilda, you had better have a look at this letter, its from a lady called Katherine Bruce in Australia shes got 247 children, 246 of them girls, she wants to send them all here!' gasped the heads secratary.

Miss Annersley raised her head and fixed her clear blue-grey eyes upon Miss Dene.

"Did I hear you correctly Rosalie? 247 children?" Rosalie nodded and thrust the typewritten letter into her hand. Scanning it quickly, the head frowned and then requested to see the envelope. The eyes that had never needed glasses lit up as she examined the postmark.

"A-ha!" she exclaimed. "This letter was sent from Interlaken, not Australia. I suspect the middles are behind this."

Unfortunately at that moment it was true to say that Miss Annersley's ears were not as keen as her eyes, otherwise she would have heard...

Carolyn giggled and looked around at her co-conspiritors. "It's a pity she caught on to that bit so quickly. I wonder what she will make of the next part of the plan."

"She won't have a chance to be on the spot soon enough" Lesley interjected with a giggle. "Not when all those kids get here from Interlaken tommorrow!"

"You never got hold of 246 of them!" Marianne gasped.

"No..." Lesley conceded as she glanced at Carolyn, her eyes dancing mischeviously.

We got 252!"

'No' replied Trish, another middle who had joined in the fun, 'Some are boys but they are little enough for kinder!'

Bettany had invited every single parent to 'English tea' at Freudesheim if they agreed on the children coming up to the Chalet School, and they all jumped at the chance" replied Vikki. "Can you just see Anna's face when 504 parents come trooping through the door demanding to be fed!"

At this point, footsteps on the gravel path send the Middles scuttling for safety. They had no desire to be caught by anyone in authority - Mistress or Prefect.

(Just out of interest, I suppose that means I'm not in this story anymore, or Rosalie would have recognised the name.)

Meanwhile Rosalie, who, like the Head, was oblivious to what the Middles were up to, took the letter back again. She frowned as she read the very untidy script. What kind of school had this Katherine Bruce been to anyway?
Katherine Bruce. Rosalie's face became thoughtful. Where had she heard that name before?

Finally she remembered. Of course, Katherine Bruce had been Head Girl twenty years earlier. Vikki, Chloe - in fact many of the current middles were children of her fellow prefects at the time. Only Katherine of her class had as yet had no children, preferring a medical career. The thought gave Rosalie a hint of an idea......

Good point, Lisa! I hadn't thought of that! And now we know why she's taking so long to post Real CS - she can't concentrate for longer than a few minutes. (Oh boy, I'm in soooo much trouble now!)

by the way, may I just point out that Chloe is FAR too young to be marrying anyone, even if it is a doctor!!!!!!!

KB, you have passed 6000 posts, considering that you had celebrated 1000 not long before I joined that is some yibbling.

Does 6000 merit a party?

I'm still aiming for 1500, but that last 500 have gone on pretty rapidly.
