Title: Holocaust 2 - The Death Toll Rises
Post by Rachel on Jan 12th, 2004, 3:50pm
The sad details of the first deaths may be viewed athttp://members.lycos.co.uk/thecbb/csholo.htm

The Middles were clustered around the notice board in great excitement reading the information that they were all off for a trip to Zurich. Madge Russell had discussed the appropriateness of taking them off jaunting at this time, but the mistresses felt this was exactly what the girls needed in order to persuade their parents to keep them at school. Therefore, the entire Middle school, comprising some 178 girls, was to go to Zurich for an overnight visit.

On the appointed day, the girls all gathered in the entrance hall with their small suitcases, handbags and umbrellas, having their names ticked off on Madge Russell’s list as they presented themselves to her for this very purpose. As they had their names ticked off, they moved on and climbed aboard one of the four school coaches. Nobody noticed one girl get her name ticked off and then move in a circuitous manner until she was back inside the school building and heading for her dormitory. It was established later that she had forgotten her camera, but it resulted in her being the only girl in the entire middle school to miss the Zurich trip, for which her obvious grief was very, ummm, obvious.

Matey was feeling a little unwell, but being the big scaredy cat she was, she was refusing to go to the San or ask one of the Sans doctors to visit her. She decided instead to rely on her own patent formula of medicine, which she had been using with great success on schoolgirls for decades now. The facts that it’s main ingredients were sugar and water was totally irrelevant. Matey poured herself a large dose and retired to bed with her teddy and a hot water bottle.

The big coaches were rolling along the Platz, the schoolgirls inside chattering hard and laughing with pleasure at this unexpected trip. As they were all familiar with this part of the journey, not one of them was bothering to look out of the windows, which meant that not one of them ever saw the blinding light that shone directly at the drivers as they began negotiating the steep turn at the top of the very high road that led down from the Platz to the valley below. All four drivers lost control of their coaches in a monumental coincidence, and all four coaches left the road simultaneously in an almost balletic motion. Girls were screaming, mistresses were reaching for the mandatory hipflasks, drivers were swearing as the buses began their slow crashing roll down the mountainside. At length the screams stopped, mainly due to lack of breath, and then one voice was heard to ask plaintively “How much longer is this going to take?”

At that moment, the coaches landed at the bottom of the mountain, landing in a small Swiss hamlet and killing a goat. In best narrative  fashion, the four coaches burst into flames once they had stopped moving and the dust had settled. The flames spread rapidly through the wooden built hamlet, killing everyone who lived there, all 324 of them, the pet dogs, cats and goldfish and in one tragic case, a pet gerbil, which had just escaped it’s cage and was making a bid for freedom, was killed by an exploding cat.

Matey was beginning to feel rather worse.

Wow!  Who is left - Madge, Matey (though not for long, I think), 1 middle and have the juniors been killed yet?  Suggest Madge sends out some brochures pronto and contacts an agancy for more staff (being prudent, includes a matron) or this drabble is on its way to conclusion which would be a shame as Rachel obviously finds it cathartic.

As do we all
Nice one Rachel!

Not that that's a problem...

It was only the prefects, not all the seniors who contracted food poisoning. So there are all the juniors, most of the seniors, the staff and Millies left to go yet, and take a look at the ADBC, that is far more than the school...

Hope this is in time Lesley.

Matey rose slowly from her bed and removed the sodden sheet. It dropped to the floor with a splat when she released her grip. Grunting she lifted the mattress, preparatory to turning it, but seeing that the damp patch had spread through the mattress and was making a puddle on the floor underneath she decided not to bother and let the mattress drop back into it’s original position. She staggered across the room and found a clean sheet, tumbled it haphazardly onto the bed, painfully lifted her nightdress above her head and then off, and dragged a fresh one onto her damp, clammy body. She tried unsuccessfully to suppress a shiver and heaved herself back into bed.

Meanwhile at St Mildred’s Miss Wilson was fighting a loosing battle to keep her students in check. Not only was there the suspected unauthorised use of the labs, but now she was sure she had heard a male voice, and lots of strange noises coming from one of the dormitory blocks last night. This concerned her a little because she was sure the ‘anti-man’ inoculations that she had been secretly administering to the girls had been working. Only the day before one girl had laughed at the idea of going to Jem’s grave to pay tribute to the great man, what other proof could there be that she had managed to turn them against all males she wondered, her heart still grieving for the only man she had ever loved, and determining to look after Matilda to the best of her ability. She decided that maybe the time had come to go and talk to Madge about Matilda; she was nothing to do with Madge anyway. It was just as well that Madge had not gone on the middles trip, but had only taken the register and waved them off. Bill left the chalet housing the finishing branch and strode across to the school, never dreaming that she would never return.

(Look, no deaths yet!)

As soon as she was spotted lolloping off in the distance Phillipe knocked on the window. A 15-year-old French Schoolboy on an extended holiday he had soon met and wooded the St Mildred’s girls who believed him to be 19. Their very lack of experience delighted the young lotherio and he had taken every opportunity to enter their building and show them some of the reasons he had been requested to leave his last co-ed school. The girls were delighted, this was far more exciting than writing boring letters to each others boring brothers who were still at their boring boarding schools in boring England. This particular day it was the lab that they girls met in, taking it in turns to go into the store cupboard and play with Phillipe. While they waited the more enthusiastic of them carried on with their experiments, those that had been worrying Bill, but now they were free to work without her nagging. That was a shame as she would have been alerted to the smoke, as a scientist her rigorous training having taught her that there is no smoke without a fire. This was not un-noticed by the girls, it just didn’t concern them. They eagerly tipped, mixed, stirred, heated and distilled powders, potions and anything else they could lay their hands on. One particular experiment was showing a lot of promise, it was bubbling, beginning to hiss, and then to shake, the girls crowded around excitedly, all apart from Anne who was having her turn with Phillipe. As the mixture reached it’s zenith there was an almighty whoosh, followed by the biggest explosion ever to rip through the Platz. The green fireball could be seen in Interlaken it was discovered later. It enveloped the girls stood around the bench, took out the wall, went through the building like wildfire, out the other side and flew across the platz, taking in the Aldernest and chalets belonging to other old girls as it travelled inexorably towards the San, where it finally burned out in the outbuilding containing, well, what that outbuilding contained is another story.
Anne and Phillipe were the only survivors of the explosion, the fireball had travelled away from them and the small cupboard had shielded them as the building collapsed. It may be best to say that Anne survived as her horror at missing the best explosion was quickly taken out on the person she deemed as the cause of her missing it. Phillipe was shocked when she produced the carving knife and being pinned under the masonry unable to stop her as she showed him what her Uncle did to sheep and bulls on his farm. Being a city boy this did not interest him, although the practical demonstration caused no little pain and he soon grasped the general idea. Anne then wiped the knife, sheathed it and walked away from the rubble, leaving Phillipe to bleed to death while singing soprano.

Over at the School Matey began to twitch.

Sorry, not the next bit of the story  :)

For those of you who want to play "Count Along with the Corpses" here are the figures so far:

003 - Hilda, Jem, Reg (at the end of the Xmas special, but counting in here)
018 - Prefects
004 - Joan, Gaudenz, Kathie, Nancy
002 - Jack and Joey
177 - Middles
012 - Mistresses on bus
324 - Swiss village
067 - Millies
015 - Millies staff
038 - Platz residents

Which gives the grand total - so far! -

660

So lots more deaths to go!

Title: Re: Holocaust 2 - The Death Toll Rises
Post by PatMac on Jan 13th, 2004, 6:03pm
Oh! That total probably won't make the evening TV news then - no, hang on, there were animals killed too so they're bound to have a report.

This is the BBC News, Kate Adie reporting.

"I'm here in the Bernese Oberland where a series of mysterious happenings have left 57 goldfish, 23 dogs and 7 cats blown to bits.  *close up of Kate Adie in flak jacket*.  A large number of cows and goats are also believed to have died but the authorities have not finished counting the legs and dividing by four to give an authoritative number.

The centre of the hostilities appears to be a school, known as the Chalet School which refused to comment.  The school is notorious in the area for eccentric behaviour and may be the centre of an obscure cult known as the CBB.  Representatives in Australia, the UK and several other countries could not be contacted for comments.

As all the owners of the animals were also slaughtered, the authorities say they have been removed from the list of suspects."  *another close up of KA looking suitably serious and windswept*

PS OK, now Kate Adie is there we know there will be more casualties!

For non-UK residents, Kate Adie made her name as a war reporter, the first well known woman to do so.  Apparantly troops used her appearance as a sign that hostilities were about to commence.

ETA to correct spelling of KAs name.  See Laura's post below.

No drabble tonight - I'm far too busy with the sexy paramedics, one of whom just happened to be Orlando Bloom doing research for a forthcoming role!

Aren't I a lucky girl?

*BBC Producer on phone*  "But Kate, we must have a report tonight.  What do you mean, there's no action?  You'll just have to waffle about the intelligence reports.  Good grief, woman!  This story promised to be the biggest thing in years.

Look, can't you go under cover and join that CBB cult?  they're mostly women aren't they.  What do you mean, you're scared.  You've been in battles before. Yeah, OK. I know this lot are scarier than patriot missiles.

Just tell it as it is.  You are on in 15 minutes.  Just be ready or you come home.  By the way your expense account has a lot of coffee on it - don;t you know it's expensive in Switzerland.  Just save it for treats."

Thanks for putting up with me and my delays guys. Here you go - the next installment   ;D

**************************************************

Madge was feeling most frustrated. Despite her best attempts at keeping the school up and running, she was being thwarted at every turn by the most inconsiderate deaths she had ever seen. The sudden news of the loss of St Mildreds, and half the Platz, was very close to the final straw. Madge was spending most of day trying to avoid Rosalie who was being inundated by phone calls and letters from concerned parents; either asking for their precious children to be returned forthwith, or asking for reassurance that their children were in no danger. Every time Rosalie hove into view, Madge ran the opposite direction, which was having a positive effect on her waistline which was nice.

Madge snuck into her office while Rosalie was argiuing in the kitchen with karen who wished to have her relationship with Anna blessed by Minette. Rosalie had talked until she was almost hoarse, mentioning the fact that as Minette was unable to speak, it wouldn't be much of a blessing in any case. Eventually, looking extremely sulky, Karen and Anna accepted that their plan would not work. Time to go to plan B. B for Bruno.

Madge busied herself in the study, placing piles of confidential papers in the fireplace and watching happily as she torched the lot. The flames were so pretty, so flickery, so colourful. madge watched until all the paper had gone and there was nothing left but a small pile of grey smouldering ash. Rummaging through Rosalie's desk, Madge found the letters from all the parents and wrote on a large sheet of paper:
"REPLY TO ALL - THEY'RE ALL GOING TO DIE."
Leaving this somewhere where Rosalie would easily find it, madge scurried along the corridor to the nearest fire alarm. She set it off and ran out to the garden to await the Juniors and remaining Seniors.

The girls, always striving to do their best for their school, were soon all out in the gardens, waiting for roll to be called to check they were all there. As soon as Madge told them they were, (she didn't bother to check; it wasn't necessary for her purposes) she ordered the seniors back into the school, telling the Juniors she had a nice surprise for them as they had been so good and quick responding to the fire alarm.

Madge marched the happy juniors off to the tiny Bahnhof, where they all lined up beautifully to wait for the train. Surprisingly, not a single soul at the school had noticed their departure, and for once there was nobody else waiting at the little station for the train. As soon as it arrived, the girls, accustomedd to this mode of transport, filed on quietly and took their seats. Very soon, they were well on their way to Interlaken.

After arriving in the large town (oooooh, at least 250,582 people ;) ) Madge took all 112 girls for coffee, which at a shilling a cup wasn't cheap! This was to be Madge's first and most expensive mistake of the entire trip. The girls were all sitting where they could to drink their coffee, when one small child, Ethelina by name, began complaining loudly that she needed a wee. This set off all the other girls, and soon Madge was surrounded by a mob of "desperate" girls. The complaints rapidly turned into whinges, and from there it was only a short time until first one girl then another burst into tears at how unfair llife was and all they wanted was a wee. Madge knew action was required. Knowing that there wasn't anywhere with facilites for 112 girls to all go for a wee simultaneously, Madge made a hasty - and foolish - plan. She took them all down to the lakeside, turned her back on them all, opened her coat wide and said "On you go then, nobody will see you!" 112 girls peeing into the lake at once caused the waters to rise so rapidly that nobody in the town stood a chacne. The flood waters rose up through the drains, through the toilets, through the sinks. The water rose fast and smelly, and within seconds, all 250,582 residents of Interlaken were dead. 111 schoolgirls died in the tradgedy, and 732 visitors to the area also lost their lives that day.

Happily, by a freak chance, Madge survived. Because she had been holding her coat wide open at the time, it had acted like a sail, carrying her swiftly across the lake to the spot where she landed in Vermont, with young Ethelina clutching at her legs.

Once Madge established that she really was alive, and really was in Vermont, she took matters into her own hands. She walked straight to the nearest house regardless of the dogs, burly security guards and evil guard dogs, and rapped on the door. A small nervous looking man opened the door.
"Yes?" he quavered. "I'm kind of busy right now - I'm in a meeting with, ummm, what's his name? That guy, has a sister named Rachel. Oh anyway, I'm in a meeting!"
"And I require the use of your telephone immediately. Out of the way my good man." And Madge strode past young Billy without even noticing as she trod heavily on his bunions.

On the telephone Madge placed a call back to Switzerland (yes, it's amazing how fast she travelled, isn't it?) and managed at length to get Rosalie on the phone. After ordering Rosalie to send money for a return airfare for two, Madge hung up and left the man's house without a backward glance, calling to a very guilty looking Ethelina as she went.

Ethelina hadn't meant to do it. In fact, she had tried not to do it. But some things are just too tempting. Ethelina had used the time while Madge was on the phone to explore the funny little man's house, and to spy on the meeting. Without any warning, Ethelina's water laden clothes had dropped a big puddle of water onto the floor, where it rolled in a miniature tidal wave into the meeting room.  Sadly for Billy and his visitor, the amount of electrical equipment in and around the room meant that they were fried to a gruesome frazzle, not quickly, but slowly, painfully and with lots of sparks flying off their heads.

MEANWHILE

Back in the Chalet School, Matey was lying groaning in her room. She put a shaiking hand up to her head, and gasped as she felt something drop into it. Focusing, matey realised her teeth had all begun to fall out.

“And now we go to Kate Adie in Switzerland for the latest on the crisis there.  Kate, can you tell me what has been happening today.”

*Cut to Kate Adie standing on Swiss Alp with Jungfrau in the background*

Well, not much action here today, although the authorities are warning that this may be the lull before the storm.  Intelligence reports suggest that the CBB, who are, at the moment, the most likely suspects may be having problems with their technology.  Experts who have broken part of their code, say that they have intercepted messages about computer problems.

Our sources say that they are very dangerous, and not above committing mayhem within their own ranks.  Everyone here is waiting with bated breath and many are clinging to the cliff edges by their fingers.

There have been a few mysterious happenings *cuts to pictures of trampolines at the foot of cliffs*  but the main reports, which are being played down by the authorities, are sightings of aspirin, carving knives and sexy paramedics flying over England which is believed to be the main centre of the CBB.  Although this seems impossible, there have been so many sightings that the RAF have been alerted.

We’re getting reports that there is flooding in Interlaken but that has to be a natural tragedy and beneath the notice of a hardened war reporter.”

Weird, I tried to post to this before and it said the thread was dead, so I managed to copy it and sent it off to Vikki. Now I can post on it again.
