Title: CS for fans
Post by austriaamy on Jun 19th, 2003, 7:40am
OK, Rebecca gave me an idea in the Con post. Why don't we start a CS for fans? The person with the most posts could be the headgirl and the other people with tons of posts can be the prefects.

Lorraine's site had a comprehensive list, a compilation of all the books:

Art
Bank
Break duty
Domestic Science and Geography rooms
Form Rooms
Games
Head Girl
Head of Middles
Hobbies
Junior Duty
Library
Magazine
Music
Pets
Second Prefect
Second Games
Staff Prefect
Stationary

Then we need Form Prefects for
Upper VIa (presumably Head Girl)
Lower VIa
Upper VIb
Lower VIb
Upper Va
Lower Va
Upper Vb
Lower Vb
Upper IVa
Lower IVa
Upper IVb
Lower IVb
Upper IIIa
Lower IIIa
Upper IIIb
Lower IIIb
Upper IIa
Lower IIa
Upper IIb
Lower IIb
Kindergarten

*whew* Will there be anyone who isn't a prefect of some sort?

I'd like to offer my services to, for any thing you might want to throw at me, oh what honour awaits me...

... If cricket essays are anything to go by its between me and Raya for Games Prefect.  Though I love watching sport I'm useless at playing it so make up your own minds on that one.  I would happily accept the sub-prefect library post. Doesn't it at one stage say the library posts are divided between fiction and non fiction.

I am eagerly awaiting the decision of the Head Girl, poor KB it reminds me of Head Girl when Grizel had problems with Deira, I hope we are all going to behave nicely towards each other and no throwing of stones.

As Head Girl, I am forbidden from making suggestions, but here is the list I have so far:

Head Girl - KB
Second Prefect - Aletea
Games - Raya
Second Games - Ally
Library - Edith
Magazine - Clare
Hobbies - Austriaamy
Bank - Cumbrian_Rachel (sub)
Stationary - Marianne (sub)
Juniors - Crashbb

Head of Middle School - Lizi
Kindergarten Form Prefect - Lesley

The following prefects don't have posts:
Rachael P
Ariella
Susan
Catherine
Rebecca
Sioned (sub)

And the following posts have no prefects:
Music
Art
Staff
Pets
Form Rooms
Dommy Sci and Geography Rooms

I think that's it.

I'll take Staff if I may - I seem to remember it mainly involves looking after them in Breaks and therefore not having to do any other break duty  :D
And I'm neither artistic nor musical so that's out for me and I have no desire to look after any weird and wonderful pets (chameleons springing to mind!)

Hope that's OK with everyone else!!

Oh, Edith - that reminds me ... guess what I met last Thursday night??

2 Giant African Land Snails - and they were sooooo cute (if a little slug-like and slimy if I'm truthful)
But I can see why you like them - very different and boy can they eat?!! One of them was storming through a lettuce leaf!

(Ariella - they seem very easy to look after ....)

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by edith on Jun 26th, 2003, 2:48pm
Yep! I know! Ours eat dandelions luckily or our lettuce bill would be ginormus! You don't want some do you?
They can be quite friendly if you handle them often, otherwise they hide! They've been to several local schools for visits, and several schools now have them for pets. In 1 school they spend most of their day out of their tank!
Another school thought they'd killed their 3 off, I gave them some new ones and the others recovered, I haven't found out how she explained that to the kids when she took them back to school!

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Rachael P on Jun 26th, 2003, 2:58pm

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Ally on Jun 27th, 2003, 10:13am
Do you people realise that the end of term is fast approaching and not only have we yet to finalise all the prefects, we have yet to choose a theme for the sale!! :o  We can't let the standards slip now we are in charge.

Time to get the thinking caps on

*Ally sits with her eyes screwed up concentrating on an idea then suddenly she smiles*

Ok how about a mixing CS with our world (shouldn't be too difficult we do it all the time) and have a CS sale.  We could have stalls representing the different periods of the school, so that's at least five stalls, which fits the number of houses as well (luckily).  We then get to choose to be different characters from each period.

I hope this is ok

Can I be on the Tyrol stall please?

Also this means we are going to have to assign ourselves to different houses.

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by KB on Jun 27th, 2003, 1:24pm
What a wonderful idea, Ally. I was thinking a Sports Sale (a rejected idea for my "CS at Peace" story) but maybe that could be used another time. I'll second that idea! Anyone have any others?

And Rebeccca, sorry I missed your comments: yes, you may have the outside rooms.

Head Mistress - Liss

I always liked Maeve's idea of a ships sale - particularly the idea of the pirate ship!  However, that may be a little difficult to arrange in the time available so for this year I will put my support behind the CS sale...  Next year however...

Title: Re: CS for fans

I support the idea of a CS sale and would like to suggest that the juniours be given Glendower stall, in which we can do a lucky dip - if anyone can come up with an idea for the format for the dip.

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Ally on Jun 27th, 2003, 4:51pm
Ok everyone thanks for the feedback if we have agreed on on this Fete then here are a few more ideas on how it might work (please feel free the suggest changes)

There will be a stall for every period, which will be run by each house apart fron Glendower House that will run itself.  So there will be 6 stalls:

Tyrol                           St Scholastika (local saint)
Guernsey                    St Therese Liseaux sp? (near France)
Plas Howell                 St Hild (English saint)
St Briavels                   St Claire
Gornetz Platz              St Agnes (newest location)
Glendower House         Themselves

Each stall would be themed for each country and would feature us as characters from those books.

Could I have suggestions for stalls and which period/house would do what, please. :D

The characters who appear in each section could be a little irritating to have all the time. Certainly, we could have a young Jo and an older Jo, but I think we should only have one Miss Annersley, one Matron, one Madge, etc. Perhaps they can move between stalls and answer peoples' questions.

That said, may I claim Madge?

A very young Junior, dear. You'll have to post more so that you gain your remove.

We don't actually go anywhere. It's just a bit of fun. And we're in our own twenty-first century time period.

Haven't been round much lately.  Too much work and a bit of mum's bug.

I'll take pets if no-one else wants it.

One frequent comment in the books is of the needlework of the continental girls putting that of the English to shame so perhaps the needlework stall should be in the Tyrol part.

Refreshments could be cakes from all the different areas mentioned.

Toys Plas Howell as they are mainly mentioned from then.

Herr Laubach likes modern theres something in Jo returns I think when she talks to Polly, all I remember of the quote is "Seeing purple in every blessed thing!"

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by KB on Jul 4th, 2003, 12:17am
This is the scene. Jo is giving Polly her first lesson in history and they are making her history chart. Jo suggests she should decorate it, and Polly says she can't draw:

"You can read up about those events when you have time," said Jo. "And see what you can do about illustrations. It's a pity you can't draw - not that I can myself. But if you could put in some jolly little original pictures, it would have made it much more interesting."

"Miss Smithson said I could sketch quite prettily," said Polly defensively. "It's only Herr Laubach who says I'm bad. He does get so worked up about my work."

Jo grinned reminiscently. "He can do that without an excuse," she said feelingly. "But if you sketch 'prettily', my child, it's no wonder! 'Pretty' work is like a red rag to a bull with him."

"I don't see why," protested Polly.

"Well, he's all for the modern methods, you know. I've never seen your drawings, but I should imagine you put in piles of detail instead of taking 'a broad view', which is his mania - that, and seeing purple in every blessed thing."

See just follow those instructions and you'll be OK!

Title: Re: CS for fans

Ok I've come up with the beginning of a list for stalls

Games and Puzzles
Toys, eg jigsaws, dolls clothes, scrapbooks (Plas Howell)
Needlework (Tyrol)
Books (St Mildreds - they should be the most learned!)
Luck Dip (Carnbach)
Crafts, eg leatherwork, wood, pottery
Produce, Jam, pickles, bottled fruit (Swiss because of all the food)

Toms House could be models of all the different buildings the schools been in.

Can I have recommendations for games/puzzles for that stall

And I think everyone would agree with me that Madge (KB) should open the sale

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by KB on Jul 4th, 2003, 12:10pm
I'd love to, and I promise to keep my speech short, out of consideration for the young people present.

So how long until the Sale actually begins?

Oh, and Ally, that idea you had for Tom's houses is one I also had for a story I'm writing. Great minds...

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Clare on Jul 4th, 2003, 12:12pm
I second the view that Madge should open the sale.

Games - could play Irish Bingo (if one of the numbers on your bingo card is called out, you sit down). Win - a bar of chocolate??

Competitions - who can transfer the most rice into a bowl using chop sticks or a fork in one minute. Weigh the results at the end, and make a note of their score. Whoever gets the highest could win something that the Dommy Sci people cook up (no pun intended).

- history of the CS competition - years we moved locations, guess the headgirl from a CS legend, guess the teacher from one of their pet phrases (Miss Annersley - the can and may things; Bill for something sarcastic etc). DO NOT let Joey enter this because she'll win hands down. Prize is a picture of the chalet at the Tiernsee.

- A-Z wordsearch. There are 26 words to find in the wordsearch, each starting with a letter of the alphabet. You have to solve the clues before looking for the word. 5 minutes per contestant. Don't know what the prize can be for the highest number of clues solved and words found in the wordsearch.

That's it, I'm out of ideas!

- CS book titles and characters out of mixed letters

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Ally on Jul 4th, 2003, 12:21pm
I don't know when its going to begin, we need to make sure that as many people are around as possible and not on holiday.  Also its going to have to be the longest sale in history to make sure no one misses out (probably two weeks would be best, maybe even more!)

Love the ideas for games, to make it interactive we will have to post the links to quizs (maybe a few more needed), and do the jigsaws and hangman on this website.

I wonder if Liss could set up a competition for us, as she use to do on the old site (you know guess the character etc) but on a bigger scale.  I suppose that basically we would email in the answers.  I don't know about prizes though, maybe the satisfaction of winning will have to do!

Maybe we should start now and see what we can come up with for Liss (I'm not taking credit for these - they're from the FOCS Third CS Annual):

Chalet School Yumagrams:
(The answers are all anagrams of CS titles and the word 'chocolate' can easily be transformed into Chalet School with a few leftover letters.)
1. Chocolate thins shall tend Head
2. John: Chocolate rots teeth slur
3. Ban the hard L.A. chocolate bars
4. I tasted chocolate hole - I gnash!
5. Chocolate loon had shared teeth
6. The chocolate self
7. Chocolate shred bid - ate shell
8. Hello chocolate! As froth - yum!
9. I chose Slough chocolate - eat - taste!
10. Hot chocolate? Her teeth slog.

Good grief KB! They are hard! I'll have to print them off and have a proper go at them. I hope you have the answers in an envelope to hand to Miss Annersley at the end of the sale... With the name of the competition on too!

I've managed to solve them :-)  They were rather tough though - I resorted slightly to looking at a list of CS books to do the last few...

Going back to the Sale - who is going to run the Clock Golf?  Are we sticking to the convention that it can only be run by males (preferably a junior doctor) for males (fathers, uncles, consultants) - in which case I think Thomas will have to do it - or shall we embrace equal opportunities and perhaps let the games prefect do it?

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by KB on Jul 11th, 2003, 11:20pm
Sorry for the delay, but I mislaid the Annual. Here are the answers (and consider any necessary details regarding FOCS to have been ignored because I'm secretly publishing my own copies of all their books and selling them under my own name! *bwahahahaha*)

Okay, here we go:
1. The Chalet School and the Island
2. Jo Returns to the Chalet School
3. The Chalet School and Barbara
4. The Chalet School Does It Again
5. Theodora and the Chalet School
6. Chalet School Fete
7. Bride Leads the Chalet School
8. Mary-Lou of the Chalet School
9. Eustacia Goes to the Chalet School
10. Three Go to the Chalet School

So, how did you go?

Title: Re: CS for fans

Well, this seems to be leading up to a proper RPG.  Which, by the way, could actually be quite fun!   A Chalet School RPG... who'd get to be Joey?  That's something you've left out so far!  How can you even CONSIDER planning a major event without Joey being involved somehow?

Shame on you girls!

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by KB on Jul 12th, 2003, 5:00am
*lol* I'd never thought of it as a real RPG. Maybe Joey could be in Canada. That removes the need for a lot of characters!

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Ally on Jul 14th, 2003, 10:48am
I thought we had decided to have a young Joey and an older Joey but no one has vounteered yet.

As for clock golf maybe it should be run jointly by all the ex-pupils who married doctors, so both males and females are involved, eg Biddy & Eugen, Hilary & Phil etc..

btw feeling particulary stupid this morning but can't decipher RPG, please help

Role Playing Game

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Ally on Jul 17th, 2003, 11:25am
Ok I think we need to get this Fete started!

Also I had another idea last night to do our own end of term edition of the Chaletian.  Of course the magazine prefect - Clare - would have to agree, but how about all people given prefectship and others roles on this thread write a report for the magazine, and anyone can submit articles, games and anything else.

Title: Re: CS for fans
Post by Clare on Jul 17th, 2003, 11:42am
Magazine prefect agrees! Hehe. I want all articles in in a months time. We could set up a new thread for contributions... I'll do that as soon as I've written my editorial! And to all prees who HAVE to write reports for me (ooh, I love delegating tasks  ;D) please avoid stiltedness a la Grizel!!

Put in anything you like, its our mag, so its up to us (well Clare anyway!)

I mentioned prefects reports, just to give those of us chosen a chance to exert our authority!

So Ariella I expect something about the Geography and Dommy Sci rooms, as well as anything of your own invention  ;)

Title: Re: CS for fans

Anyone can contribute to it, but I expect reports off all the prefects - even Stationary Marianne! You're free to write what you like, providing it's CS-esq! And yes, you can contribute stories and poems if you like. It's your magazine, I just lay down the rules  ;D (sorry, power went to my head for a minute there!)

Please don't go hairless Ariella! Or we'd have to put in a picture of you before and after you wrote our article. It'll go down in school legend like Corney Flower and her sax!

A lecture and some castor oil, I'm thinking...  Along with a stern warning not to go near the acting supplies, after all we all know that Joey's already done that, so it can NOT be copied by any other member of the school *sage nod*

What I couldn't even borrow a wig from the acting cupboard to solve the problem!!!!

Ahem.

I'm sure you'll all agree that there has been a lot of hard work gone into this year's Sale and I would like to remind you all of the very good cause to which the proceeds are donated. I hope you will all enjoy this memory of the Chalet School's history and it will entice you to be more generous than ever.

I hereby declare the Sale open and wish you all a good time of spending.

Anything you like - could say you're disappointed by the lack of interest this term but are hoping it will take off with a bang next term. If you can think of some new hobbies to add to the list, that would be great!  :)
