Title: 2000 post party
Post by xanthe on Nov 15th, 2003, 1:21am
Yippee!  My turn for a party!

*sends out beautifully painted illustrations to the entire board*

there is LOTS of yummy food (all of which is Xanthe-friendly!) and would everyone please wear their velveteens...

Congratulations, Xanthe! But how boring that we don't get to dress up. And is this an exclusive party for you, or may all the other people who reach 2,000 consider it theirs, too?

Title: Re: 2000 post party
Post by xanthe on Nov 15th, 2003, 1:26am
Everyone who reaches 2000 posts may consider it theirs as well...

I thought people might be running short of fancy-dress ideas/materials...

oh, and how about progressive games?  oh, and sliding the length of the hall on mats?

Post by KB on Nov 15th, 2003, 1:28am
*votes for the use of mats as boats, as this sounded sooo much fun*

I've still got some way to go. My report will obviously read, 'must try harder'. I think I will probably be the next one after Lisa though, unless one of those who were about 200 behind me has suddenly started increased yibbling, must go and have a look.

Title: Re: 2000 post party
Post by KB on Nov 15th, 2003, 7:45pm
Just yibble a little more, Lisa, and you'll get there! ;D

Title: Re: 2000 post party
Post by Lisa_T on Nov 16th, 2003, 12:31am
I'm yibbling, I'm yibbling! ;D

*rather sorry the two bit thread was never revived. It was so useful for this kind of thing!*

You could always start up another one Lisa...... ;)

Title: Re: 2000 post party
Post by KB on Nov 16th, 2003, 12:33am
*glad it wasn't, as people always wanted me to write out the full story, and trying to figure out what people meant (or tried to mean) was sometimes near-impossible*

Title: Re: 2000 post party
Post by xanthe on Nov 16th, 2003, 3:21pm
*pops back in to see how the party's going*

*gets another mat and slides the length of the hall at the sort of speed which would be highly dangerous if it wasn't virtual*

:) :) Congratulations on reaching 2000 posts Xanthe!! I've still got quite some time before I reach my 1000 posts but I'm getting there slowly. I think I need to learn the art of yibbling!!

Lisa - Not too many more posts before you reach 2000!!!

hey, Vikki, don't leave on account of us!  you're most welcome to stay and eat yummy things and slide about on a mat... though please don't eat and slide as that might have disastrous consequences!

Yay a race a race,

*wondering if she ought to be setting a good example and not talking like this*

*realises it is Bossy-Knickers and her sidekick who've been doing the spectacularly-bad-example-setting, and that therefore, I am totally vindicated*

and on a different note (not, perhaps, unlike the sound someone makes when they fall right on their bum while ice-skating) - who fancies a game of subject and object?

Yes soem of the woods are open again but they're put in wooden walkway, which are so slippy when covered with wet leaves and everyone except me slid down death drop, as they're going to fence it off so went down it one last time and we only slide down the last bit of cliffhanger ::)

nad i know W1's not sliddy i ddin't try and slide in there jess adn bubble tried when i was looknig for Mrs. Q and thats how it all got started  ::)

I suppose men are capable of installing them, but all the ones I know don't know how to actually turn them on!!  ;)

My dad does. He's quite good at it, actually, even though I'm the official clothes washer in the place.

I think several people have tried to teach my dad basic house keeping skills and have failed! He is an excellent cook though so at least he is not completely undomesticated!!

Men...pah.

It's true that they cause more frustration that ten women combined, but on the other hand, what would we do without them? ;)

That reminds me of my best friend when I was about ten, her mum bought her a wool cardigan for school, and washed it on the hot cycle!!!
(luckily, she had a little brother, so he ended up wearing it!!)

I can honestly say that I've never shrunk anything in the wash, but I do recall several occassions when I was about ten or so, where I tried ironing my dad's socks, and stuck them to the iron!! (Getting the goo off the bottom of the iron was not fun!!!) ::)

I'm generally pretty good, but:

I once failed to notice a red sock mixed in amongst the whites - luckily they now make a really great product that takes the dye out of the clothes it shouldn't be in.

Tried to be really helpful and load and run the dishwasher.  Unfortunately, I used the sink washing liquid (I think you guys have Fairy?) instead of the dish washer liquid.  I was mopping up suds from the floor for HOURS.

Wurgh - housekeepingy thingys, oh yuckitty yuck yuck...

The vacuum cleaner on my floor actually has NO suction, I swear...  it's really annoying because a) it looks like I've not bothered to clean my room and b) dustiness is not Xanthe-friendly  :-/

Oh, Chelsea, that's awful! (Although the mental image was pretty funny...)

The worst thing I did (and it wasn't a washing incident) was to put an electric kettle onto the stove. We were visiting someone else's house and I'd never used an electric kettle before!!! (I was also only six...)

Talking of kettles, when I was younger I tried to clean the kettle, using washing up liquid. Needless to say, I didn't rinse it out very well and I mum got a huge surprise when she tried to boil some water!

Oh, it melted, big time. Fortunately, the water it contained prevented it from catching on fire or anything exciting, but it was a lot of work to get the stovetop clean... :-[ :'(

KBs kettle story reminded me of, arguably my biggest disaster - which my cousin and I will never live down.

One Christmas we decided to make a cake.  We were in our apartment in Florida which has a very small, not so well stocked kitchen and I had to use glass cake pans.  Everything went fine with the actual cake making.  But, we didn't have a cooling rack so I put the pan on the stove element (which was off) so it could get some air circulating under it.  My cousin put the (non-electric) kettle on to boil some water for tea.  Luckily we then went to the living room to watch TV.  A few minutes later we heard a - kaboom - and ran into the kitchen.  There was cake and glass everywhere and there was a fire on the stove top.  Threw water on the stove to stop the fire and drowned the elements.  Smoke detector goes off.  Neither of us are tall enough to turn it off.  By the time we got a chair, our next door neighbours have come over to see what the disaster was and one of them turned off the alarm.  My cousin and I went back to clean up the kitchen.  At that momment my grandmother decides to come over.  We were standing in the kitchen with cake and glass everwhere.  There is water all over the stove top and under the elements.  There is a chair in the middle of the living room.  My grandmother just looked at us.  The kicker is that my mum managed to sleep through the ENTIRE thing!

I can just imagine the mess! Had your sister turned the wrong element on, or did the heat carry so much that the tin went up anyway? And have you got a normal cake tin now? ;D
