May have to give up waiting for traditional uses of codfish.
(Vague recollections of Mary Vance chasing Rilla Blythe with a codfish, but uncertain whether this would help much.)

Bewildered by how little faith you folks have in the power of lipids.

Tomorrow when the university reopens I will be very good.
I will concentrate only on lipids.
I will read the overdue paper draft and shred the grant proposal in my inbox, so it can be revised by Friday.
I will not even glance at the CBB.
At least until midnight.
errr...CBB time.
(By then perhaps Jack will be safe and sound?)

Vikki - you asked if anyone knew how to stitch a wound? I do - well it's been a while but I'm sure I could remember while sewing up KB's wounds! ;)

Oh, thank goodness Lesley!
I think KB is still bleeding at the bottom of the cliff! (I couldn't quite bring myself to do it earlier.......)

No problem Vikki - although the last time I was stitching wounds it was in Berlin, before the Wall came down, on drunken squaddies in the middle of the night!!! Still I'm sure I can remember how... ;)

You are making this very difficult, with all the floating sea creatures and blood around I can't decide which of my endings to post! If Jack returns some of you will moan but if he doesn't come back i'm worried about people jumping off the cliff without the trampoline. I shall have to depart and think about it some more.

Ali, whichever ending you decide on - I promise I shan't moan, or throw myself off any cliffs, please choose the one which you prefer.

I can stitch a wound! At least, I can stitch wounds on fake arms, completely devoid of real blood, but it might be useful? Maybe?

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by LulieCat on Jan 5th, 2004, 9:17pm
I can stitch leather. I'm sure it's not too different stitching wounds (apart from the blood, but that doesn't bother me). After all, if you tanned skin in the same way, it would resemble leather, wouldn't it?

*prepares to rescue Jack single handedly*

EWWW! I've never tried to stitch someone back together, but I'm a dab hand with sticky plaster! And given enough time, sticky-back plastic too...

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by Pat on Jan 5th, 2004, 9:35pm
What pattern plastic would suit Jack best, do you think?

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by LauraT on Jan 5th, 2004, 9:54pm
You can't use sticky back plastic on Jack! Think of the pain! (several people on my coach (male)-- who will of course remain unnmaed -- were trying to wax their legs with brown industrial tape and were then in agony for the next 30 minutes. Turns out they weren't as macho as they thought!) ::)

Anyway, wouldnt Joey be a better candidate?! And I have some very cool pink plasters (heart shaped) lurking in the cupboard at the mo!  ;D

I'm really enjoying this story, ali, but have to add my voice to the Please Save Jack campaign. I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and I'd love to read the scene between him and Jo which might be a little more interesting than the 'solid lump of comfort' version EBD fobbed us off with last time.

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by Lesley on Jan 5th, 2004, 10:47pm
Aniseed - read Rachael's thread on the engagement of Jack and Joey - it's still on the board - I think it's on the second page - that's a fill-in on what EBD should have written - it's wonderful!

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by Aniseed on Jan 5th, 2004, 11:01pm
Thanks for the tip, Lesley. I'm off right now to read it, even though it's past the time when I promised myself I'd leave the board and go to bed. Well...just one more drabble won't hurt, will it? Will it? Except that turns into 6 more, plus a couple of the other threads...then it's 4.23am and you're still not in bed yet. Ach weel. Too many treats on here, that's the trouble.

Woo hoo, I'm on the computer at work. Never used it before for my own neferious activities. 5 mins till hometime so no story yet...

I may try it in the style of those books I used to enjoy as a child, you know, the ones where it said,

if you want to talk to the strange old woman go to page 23, if you want to investigate the dark cave go to page 13.

My problem was I ended up dead which ever direction I picked.

OOhh I wonder if the class would notice me on the cbb during ICT lessons, probably not a wise idea, they interrupt too much.

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by Esmeralda on Jan 7th, 2004, 2:17am
Its quite possible to function on 3 and a half hours sleep, but not continuously.
I read that i's the mathmatical side of your brain that feels the effects first, so as long as you can add, say 65 to 42 and come up with the right answer, you're functioning ok.

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by KB on Jan 7th, 2004, 3:34am
What about if you can't even add that on eight hours of sleep a night? Are you then hopeless?

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two
Post by Esmeralda on Jan 7th, 2004, 11:46am
Mmmmm, it may mean that you're one of those people who need about ten hours sleep a night, or you could just be useless at adding up!

Title: Re: Joey - Young, Free and Single ~ Part Two

Erm yes, I find I can manage on very little sleep for quite some time but then it catches up on me - these holidays I was falling asleep literally every time I got in a car - or a Land Drover boot (I dread to think how many drivers noticed and I think I may have been abandoned in a service station...). Jolly nice way of travelling though!

I once had a piece of coursework - we had three months to do it in, i started it the night before it was due in. (yes I know, my stupidity has no limit). I began it at about five o'clock in the afternoon. I continued till it was time to go to college. I went to my lessons and continued in all my free periods and the lesson for which the coursework was. I finished it at twenty minutes past four that afternoon. The deadline was half past four. My friend (who was in a similar position) and I literally sprinted through the college (knocking over an elderly but voluble woman on the way) and presented our work to Jean about thirty seconds before the deadline.

Sorry, sorry and sorry, but it the sites fault. If I hadn't been so interested in the emerson the drabble I wouldn't have mentioned to my husband about a set of books I wanted. If I hadn't told my husband then I wouldn't be the lucky girlie who got the first 9 of the series for christmas. I don't know about you lot but once I get books I haven't read before I have to spend all my spare time on them until I'm finished. So thats where I've been. Ending 1 - Joeys Future. (Only to be read if you don't want Jack to return.)

Jem hammered on the door of Jo's room. He had arrived, as promised, to pick her up but no Joey had appeared so he had dashed up to her room and was now outside ranting and threatening to break the door down if she didn't respond. Jem was worried about Joey's mental state, he had talked endlessly with Madge about the change in Jo's behaviour and both knew this recent trial on top of the many others could send her over the edge. To most people she had taken the news of Jacks death well. She had thrown herself into her work but had had little time for the people who knew her really well. She had always been sensitive and impulsive. What if she had decided to hasten the end of her life so she could be with Jack. The sound of a key turning in the door halted Jem in his tracks as he had been about to shoulder barge the door.

A serene Joey, gently smiling, opened the door. "There you are Jem, sorry to keep you waiting but I had an important piece of correspondence to attend to." Jem drew her into a fierce bearhug. Then began to demand what was so important that she couldn't hear him banging at the door. Instead of answering she surprised him by asking about Jacks belongings. "Jem, is it true that you have Jacks things?"
Jem gave her a considering look, "Yes, he gave them to me for safe keeping. Why do you ask?"
"There's a ring, it belonged to his mother and now it's mine. We're engaged you see, he told me in his letter. Now we'll always be together. I have so much to do and see, but one day we'll meet again and until then I'll wear the ring to remind me of how lucky I am."

Jem put an arm around her shoulder and drew her away. "Lets go home and find that ring, and Madge, she'll be so happy for you." He felt that Jo was now at peace and need for worry was over. Jo had a long happy life ahead of her, a family to care for her and a job she could be truely happy in.

Epilogue.

Jo lived to be an old woman. For the duration of the war she taught at the chalet school. She suprised the other staff by taking exams with the pupils and as soon as she could she went to college to gain her teaching qualifications in history and Latin. Returning to the chalet school she taught for many years and became the head following Miss Annersleys retirement. The school went from strength to strength with Jo at the helm and she was truely content with her life. She wore Jacks ring till the day she died and often spoke to him when she needed guidance. Those who found her in her study on that fateful morning that she failed to turn up for prayers said she looked at peace, and noticed an old letter in her hands, as though she had been reading when death had released her from life.

30 degree heat currently being experienced in Oz causes wax model to melt. Miss A watches in astonishment as the model slowly disintegrates, ending up as a puddle of wax on the floor - one finger - the middle one points incongruously toward to sky.

Miss A turns and catches a glimpse of the Head Girl trying to leave quickly, an icy voice stops KB in her tracks...
