#1: Rix Goes To India Author: AllyLocation: Jack Maynard's Dressing Room!! PostPosted: Sat Oct 23, 2004 7:24 pm

This was my bed-time story that I forgot Embarassed and has been out of reach (ie in the loft) since May. I finally have decided to be brave and post it, though its terribly soppy!!!

Master Rix Bettany, to quote himself, had had a ‘horwwid day’. It had started badly at breakfast, when his spoon, bowl and cup had been given to his sister Peggy, not him. Couldn’t everyone see that he was the man, and so his were blue, not pink!

Then Auntie Joey had promised to read them a story out in the garden of Die Blumen, the Russell’s summer home by the beautiful lake Tiernsee. All the Bettany and Russell children loved Joey’s stories, but their plans had been ruined as that morning it had rained, and then Jo had mysteriously disappeared. Yes, Rosa had read them a story instead, but it just wasn’t the same! Rix made up his mind to ignore his Aunt for a least a day because of this.

Then during a game of hide and seek in the house, Sybil had had another ‘temper’. She had wanted to be seeker, and an argument had begun between her and Peggy, who usually was seeker first. When Peggy had calmly tried to argue her case, Sybil had retorted that she wasn’t going to listen to Peggy and she didn’t deserve to go first because she didn’t belong here.

Rix always enjoyed watching one of Sybil’s ‘tempers’ and this was no exception. Her face changed to a marvellous shade of red, and her coppery curls shook with the ferocity of her anger. But Rix wasn’t going to let his sister be spoken to like that, and had administered a slap to his cousin, which immediately sent her into a more furious rage. The next thing he knew Auntie Madge had arrived on the scene, and Sybil had told on him.

Now he was residing in bed, whilst the others were out in the garden, playing in the afternoon sunshine that had dried up the rain. Felling that life was treating him badly, Rix’s thoughts turned to his family and the parents he missed and the second twins he had never seen. Suddenly he was hit by a delicious idea. He would go to India and bring back Mum and Dad, so that he Peggy, Bride and Jackie could be a family again, and there would be no Sybil. Now Rix had no idea where India was, but he did know it was hot, and there were tigers, so it would be a real adventure.

For once he had no trouble leaving Die Blumen as everyone was busily occupied, so Rix marched down to the lakeside quite unnoticed. The lake steamer was busy crossing to St Scholastika, and as it was hot waiting in the sun, Rix went and sat down in the cool boatshed and waited.

A few hours later a distraught Madge and Joey came across him still there, curled up asleep on a bench, and on awakening Rix found himself back in his own bed. When his Aunts finally questioned him about his disappearance they nearly choked on his reply. ‘I was waiting for the boat to take me to India, of course!’

Awww, how lovely. I can just imagine young master Rix trotting off down to the lake.

It makes a change to see Sybil's temper from the little people's POV, especially a little boy.

That was wonderful Ally. I first encountered Peggy and Rix at around that age and so it's nice to see Rix being a little man again.

Thank you
