The CBB -> Cookies & Drabbles

#1: Retribution Author: KatLocation: Swansea PostPosted: Mon Aug 09, 2004 6:50 pm

By incredibly popular demand, here is my bedtime drabble from The Gathering.....

They all laughed as they surveyed the scene before them. Two hands were wildly clutching at the edge of the drop – a very long drop in fact, a cliff really. Lesley’s face started to turn a funny shade of puce as she realised the impact of that terrible thought. She re-doubled her efforts to clamber back to safety, all the while listening to that manic laughter as the on looking CBB’ers watched with glee her efforts at saving herself.
“No trampoline for you, Ratbag!”
“Now you’ll know what it feels like for us wench!”
“We should have done these ages ago!”
Such comments swirled round Lesley’s poor head – why oh why had she tormented them so? Slowly an evil grin spread across her face. Because she loved it, that’s why. Oh the satisfaction of winding them up – the glorious sensation of leaving them suspended in mid air with no idea of when they were going to fall! Ash, that sweet sweet sound of a scream fading slowly out of hearing – that so precious sight of seeing a hapless CBB’er skipping gladly along the cliff top til suddenly it was there no more and they were flung down to the depths to wait pitilessly their rescue with yet more drabble! Lesley almost let go in sheer delight. Just in time she remembered not to, much to the sorrow of the on looking clan.
Disappointment was written all over their faces, until a voice was heard just behind them.
Lesley noted with some degree of trepidation that Vikki had appeared armed with a long feather duster. Her voice quivered, even though she tried to stop it, as she asked “What’s that for?”
“Ah, well you see Ratbag, we don’t think it’s very fair that you managed to cling on to the cliff edge. So we thought we’d give gravity a helping hand...” Vikki’s voice ended on a note of triumph, but with a somewhat hint of malicious glee.
Lesley’s face changed colour – it was starting to turn a sickly green now. Rachael watched in fascination as it faded from green to yellow to purple and then to a colour she couldn’t even think of.
“I think, if gone off sour milk smell could be changed into a colour – I think that would be it!” Rachael muttered her thoughts to her neighbour, Kat who giggled whilst staring intently at Lesley’s face. People standing nearby had heard the comment and had started to chuckle. Vikki turned an enquiring face to the group, pausing her hard work of Lesley rib tickling as she did so.
“It’s Lesley’s face!” Vikki turned to stare at it.
“What about it? It’s as er, lovely as ever it is!”
Splutters arose at this. “No, not that silly – look at the colour!! It’s what gone off sour milk smell would look like!” All this said by Rachael who was rapidly turning red under her efforts of controlling her wild laughter. She gave up and snorted ungracefully down to the floor where she was quickly joined by at least 7 other CBB’ers.
Vikki looked with interest at ‘Ratbag’s’ face before letting out a great ‘HA!’ of laughter and prodding her rather more violently in the ribs than before.
With great satisfaction, Lesley’s fingers began to slip and it wasn’t long before the excited group saw her bounce rather inelegantly to the bottom of the cliff. Screams could be heard echoing wildly back to the cliff top, as the CBB’ers watched with delight her journey to the bottom.
“That was rather more satisfying than I thought it would be – shall we do it again?” Everyone looked in surprise at the usually placid features of Hilda Annersley. They were half delighted and half scared to note that they had somewhat changed. Her eyes glinted with a deep pleasure and her mouth was curved upward in an enchanted smile. Her voice held something uncanny in it… could there possibly be a hint of vengeance in there? She walked casually to the cliff edge and peered down. “It seems as though Lesley is in need of a little more, how shall we put it, retribution. In light of all she has done – both Nell and I agree that the amount of cliffs she has left scattered around has been most irresponsible as well as tiresome to us all – we think that Ratbag down there could do with being taught a firm lesson. All those in favour please show in the usual way.” A chorus of “Aye!” resounded along the cliffs, leaving Hilda in doubts as to what action should be taken next.
“I wonder if some of you would mind going down and bringing Ratbag back up?” Hilda politely asked.
“Er, well, we thought some of us might um, well um, that is to say – we were going to do it again anyway! She should be about halfway here by now – PatMac, Catherine_B, Carolyn, Kathye, Ellie and Liss volunteered to wait for her at the bottom and bring her back up.” Xanthe peered round and gave a giggle as she saw the group approaching them. “It looks as though they started out straight away.” Everyone turned round to look. The next minute they had all burst into giggles as Lesley appeared covered in seaweed and smelling strongly of fish. Interrupted by her own giggles, PatMac explained… “It was a damn good shot whoever did it!” Here Vikki beamed with pride before faltering slightly at the glare she received from Lesley. “She landed in one of the big rock pools – the one which the crabs like so much! We hauled her out when we thought she’d been in there long enough – although I fear she did get a fair few nips!” Those with astute eyesight noticed Lesley rubbing her backside whilst wincing uncontrollably.
“Thank you for bringing her up all of you. Would you care to stay for round two or would you prefer to go back to the bottom and await her descent?”
They discussed it quickly and decided that PatMac, Catherine_B and Liss would wait at the bottom of the cliff and Carolyn, Kathye and Ellie would stay at the top.
“Hurry then you people – we want to send her off again!”
“No problems there Hilda – we’ll abseil!”
Soon enough it was all set again and Lesley was spun round so she’d be extra dizzy for her skip along the edge. “One, two, three…” Hilda’s voice was quiet but firm as Lesley was released and gently pushed along the edge. She happily tottered along before slipping a little and then falling all the way down with many an ‘ouch!’ and even more unutterable oaths. “Really, can she be no more imaginative than that? I do believe I’ll have to give her English lessons….”

Hope you all enjoyed! Twisted Evil
