Rachel's punishment

#1: Rachel's punishment Author: PatLocation: Doncaster PostPosted: Sun Sep 05, 2004 2:31 pm

A one-off short drabble as a direct response to Rachel's defiant AWOL posting in OT!!!

Rachel walked into the study after her illicit weekend away trying to look her usual confident self and succeeding pretty well on the whole. Seated in front of her was a panel of CBBers who were all looking rather stern.
“You stand accused of going Absent Without Leave,” stated the Chair, managing to speak and bite the insides of her cheeks to stop herself laughing by a huge effort of will. “How do you plead?”
“Not guilty! And I don’t recognise this court either!”
“That’s neither here nor there. We recognise us. You went off for the weekend without submitting your leave card. Do you deny this?”
“Nah!!! You all know I did. I posted it in COT. So what? Do you think you can stop me?”
The defiance was a bit false, a bit OTT, as Rachel too was finding it hard to keep a straight face. The whole situation was highly farcical as they all knew.
“I take that to be an admission of guilt. Do you all agree?” The Chair was now in real difficulties with strange moaning noises following the words as she tried to choke back her giggles. “I will ask the Clerk to read the sentence.”
“What? Why me?”
“Because you have legal training, and you also failed to die in the Holocaust.”
“Oh! Well that’s true. All right then. Rachel the Witch, you are hereby ordered - err what is her sentence? Have we decided?”
Rachel spluttered and then hastily straightened her face back into a semblance of indifference.
“You may leave the Court while we decide your fate!” the Chair tried desperately to keep some gravity in her voice.
Rachel marched from the room, sniggering.
The group sat and looked at each other for a few moments after the door closed.
“We have to think of something really nasty,” said the Chair. “Did you see her sniggering? She’ll be coming out with that laugh of hers if we’re not careful!”
“How about Community Service in the Spider House at her local zoo?” asked one of the members, a particularly evil grin on her face inadequately covered by her long hair. “We all know how she hates them.”
“She could be made to gives hugs to everyone on the board,” suggested another.
After that the ideas came rather more quickly, until they had a list from which to choose. Votes were cast on which they thought would be the best punishment and then Rachel was called back into the room. The Clerk of the Court rose to her feet.
“You have been convicted of being Absent without Leave from the CBB,” she intoned gravely. “This is your sentence, agreed upon by all present. You are to be genuinely nice to every regular member of the CBB. We emphasise the requirement for you to be genuinely nice, knowing very well how skilled you are at seeming to be one thing and actually being another.” She smiled with a wickedly twisted smile, very reminiscent of one of the smiley’s available on the board and beloved by many of the members. “Sentence to begin immediately.”
Rachel’s face had fallen as the sentence was read out. That was a hard thing to do and effectively abolished her witchy privileges until it was complete! Two sentences in one. However, she put an indifferent expression on her face. “Very well,” she snapped. “I sthat all? Then I’m off. See you on the Board.” She stamped form the room, followed by the inevitable sniggers from the Tribunal panel.
“Hopefully other people will think carefully before doing the same,” said the Chair, looking meaningfully at the only other person on the CBB who had received a leave card. “We really don’t want to have to go through that again. It’s far too much like hard work, and you all know I like a quiet life.”
As she rose and left the room, a very quiet voice was clearly heard. “Why don’t you tell us why Meg can’t read Jo’s books then?”

Hmm, I'm sure she'll find a way. Laughing Hasn't she been suspiciously quiet and unwitchly on the board the past few weeks?

Adds to chanting.
Why can't Meg read Jo's books?
Why mayn't Meg read Jo's books?
Why why why why why?

(Not that it's worked for the past -- how many years? But no harm in trying Twisted Evil )

I remember Liss telling us the end of the story Kathye. Don't worry, you're still sane Cool After the bedtime drabbles from what I vaguely remember.

I did indeed reveal the end of New Girl at the SG...

But it's crap, sadly. If anyone can think of a good reason why Meg wouldn't be allowed to read Jo's books, post and let me know - if it's a better reason than mine, I might change the end of the story!!
