A comment made by Kathye about Hilda's friends in high places in You Both Need a Break inspired this. It's not great, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

“How to make friends and influence people; or I Did it May Way” by Hilda Annersley

Ever wondered how to ‘know’ someone in head office? Ever wanted to call the shots? This is the book for you! Hilda Annersley has written a compelling account of life at the top. The number of contacts she can claim in the top jobs around the world is frankly staggering. The secret to her success? Eyes that have never needed glasses and a beautiful voice.

Miss Annersley has risen from humble beginnings in teaching, to become headmistress of a prestigious private school in Australia. She counts Lady Margaret Russell and her husband Sir James Russell as close friends, and a number of her former pupils have gone on to hold high office in governments around the world. She can call on the chief inspector in Scotland Yard for help when needed, and is also reported to be in close contact with Interpol. The book describes all her achievements and her methods in great detail, and often surprises the reader (the statement “underworld contacts can be just as useful as those in the legitimate world”, referring to her spell in prison, is one such example). Miss Annersley has certainly led an interesting life, and she doesn’t shy from including the less salubrious elements.

A stickler for grammar (hence the subtitle), Hilda Annersley’s debut is a beautifully written piece of work. Forget the second-rate success books that are currently sat on your bookshelf – this is the only book you’ll need!

“Superb – Hilda Annersley really draws the reader in, and passes on useful knowledge at the same time” – New York Post

“Highly recommended – an interesting and educational read!” – The Guardian

“Her level of control was already legendary in the world of government – now everyone else can share!” – The Financial Times.

Take it back! take it back! *kicks out viciously*

I do have a few ideas to carry this on, but it won't get written until later this week (reports and exam marking is getting in the way!). I can't see that I'll manage the whole book though! Smile

I'm glad that there'll be more of this Donna. Some of the best drabbles start out small.
