#1: He is Calling to me... Author: Kat, Location: SwanseaPosted: Fri Apr 02, 2004 12:12 pm Len stood silently at the side of the bed, looking down with tear filled eyes at the person who lay there, so still and so pale. She raised a hand to gently wipe away a tear, and turned away from the bed. She stood fighting for her self control, before walking from the room and going to seek her sister.
She found Margot in their Aunt Helen's sitting room, holding a tissue and sobbing heart-brokenly. Len sat down beside her, and laid her head on Margot's shoulder. Margot shifted slightly and turned to hug Len. They looked silently at each other, each knowing what the other thought.
Con walked in and sat down besides them. She choked out ''How is...?" Len straightened up, and turned to her sister.
"Still unconscious. Reg said they were doing everything they could, but we should prepare ourselves for the worst. The heart is so weak..." Her voice trailed off and she slumped a little, before again, straightening and continuing "The heart is weak, and they know it is only so much time before they can do no more."
Con nodded silently, whilst Margot sat, tears unchecked now and rolling down her cheeks, her whole body shaking uncontrollably.
"No," She thought, "It can't happen - God would never be so cruel or unkind."
Yet all she could think of was the still form of her brevet Aunt, laying so peacefully. Margot raised her head. "We must do something." Her voice was strong and the tears had stopped, although her body still shook occasionally. Her sister's looked at her in amazement.
"Yes!" She insisted. "Who better to talk to now? Only God can help us, and He is who we must turn to." She dropped to her knees as she finished speaking and removed her rosary, twining into around her fingers.
Len and Con looked at each other, then as one, dropped to Margot's side and removed their rosaries. The three turned to the chest beneath the window, and let their elbows rest upon it. The sun shone through, catching in their hair, making it shine and glow. With bowed heads, they began to pray...

#9: Author: Jennie, Location: CambridgeshirePosted: Fri Apr 02, 2004 2:49 pm Kat, please write some more. It's against the unwritten rules to leave us a cliff-hanger so soon.
Just 4 days before, Miss Hilda Annersley had been bantering cheerfully with her friend and colleague Nell Wilson. The two had been disputing the possible outcome of a thriller they were both reading.
"No, Hilda, you're all wrong! Milward is the killer and Barton is the poor fellow who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time..."
"Nell! Don't be so absurd - Milward is clearly innocent, whilst Puttick had all the elements needed to commit murder! He had the motive - look at what happened between his wife and that David Barton chap. He also had the means; he is a pharmacist after all! Perfectly placed to obtain the required drugs and in the know of how to administer them. And" she added with authority, "His alibi is absolute nonsense! Just you re-read page 128, and see what Jennifer Shakesby said!" She finished, and settled back into her chair with a smug look on her face.
Nell looked thoughtful. "So you think Milward was framed then?" Hilda snorted with disgust at how thick her friend could sometimes be.
"Hmmm... so Puttick murdered Barton for having an affair with Eurwyn, then framed Milward? It could work of course - but have you forgotten Swancott?"
And so the debate had gone on - and just 24 hours later, Hilda had proved to be right, and Nell had gone back to St Mildred’s to sulk, and to work out where her calculations about the murdered had gone so wrong! Minutes later, she had phoned Hilda to say "I would have been right! Only there's a page missing from my book, and it must be that page which tells us about Barton and Eurwyn!" Hilda had scoffed, and then hung up giggling to herself.
Really sorry guys - I saved what I had written and attached it to an email, and saved it as a draft (on hotmail account), and came up to Tom's - just went to retrieve it so I could post, only to find that it hasn't attached Really sorry - was planning on posting it so I could write some more!

#28: Author: Kat, Location: SwanseaPosted: Sat Apr 03, 2004 1:32 pm Yup, poor me! Anyway... here's some more! (You may now bow down before me )
Rosalie Dene, much loved secretary of the Chalet School, had had a hard days work. Her assistant Clare Kennedy had been forced to go to Interlaken early that afternoon to obtain some urgently needed envelopes, as their usual supplier had experienced difficulties with a flood in their main storage warehouse and had been unable to send the usual consignment up.
Rosalie sighed and wearily made her way to the staff, expecting a warm welcome and some of Mdlle's delicious coffee. She expected right, and many were the claims of "Rosalie! You do look tired my dear - come and have a seat by me and help yourself to some of these chocolate biscuits!"
She sat down and stretched an arm out for her coffee and the plate of biscuits.
"How is everyone?" Her voice was languid and more than one person raised an eyebrow at the sound. Rosalie looked pale and she had gone thin again. Obviously, even with Clare's help, she was still working too hard. Another idea must be thought of to help her. Another secretary? Or maybe the whole organisational structure of the admin side of the school should be overhauled? Miss Wilmot who had thought of these points made a mental note to speak to Miss Annersley and Clare about it.
Rosalie soon forgot her aching head as she heard about the latest doing of some of the less responsible members of the school. The gales of laughter were interrupted by a knock on the door, where stood the Head Girl, Jack Lambert.
"Please, Miss Annersley is ill - could someone come?" The girl sounded tearful, and her voice shook, although she controlled it well.
There were gasps from around the room, and then as if a spring had been released, the staff jumped to their feet as one, and made for the door, anxiety plainly written on their faces.
"Where is she Jack?" Rosalie spoke harshly, her manners forgotten in her angst for the Head.
"In, in her office" Jack stuttered and than turned and followed the staff.
Nancy Wilmot, as deputy head, halted the group outside the office door, allowing only Rosalie and Mddle inside. She held her hands up and spoke.
"Please everyone, we can not all deal with this. Could some of you please go and sit with the younger forms and make sure they know nothing about this. Could the rest of you remain in the staff room - we may need you, but until we know how, it will be best for the room to be kept quiet." She paused, and glanced around. Already some of the mistresses were moving of to look after the girls. The rest stood transfixed for a moment, before turning and retiring to either form rooms or else the staff room. Finally only Jack remained, looking scared and unhappy.

Sorry for taking so long, but thank you for your patience and kind messages Am feeling a little better, but could do with some swiss roll me thinks!
Here's some more - not sure how good it is, but it's done anyway!
Btw, you prounce Astrithr as 'ass frior' - I think it means beautiful god.
Miss Wilmot turned to Jack, her face taught with fear. “Now Jack, please tell me what you know.”
Jack swallowed, and took a deep breath before replying “I needed to ask Miss Annersley something about the Sale, and I came down to the office from the Prefects room. She told us earlier that she would be there most of the evening as she wanted to catch up on some letters to a few Old Girls. Anyway, as I was coming down the stairs, I saw Corina and Astrithr trying to slide down the banisters in tandem.”
Here Jack stopped, trying to prevent a grin as she recalled the sight, and then the look on the two girls faces as they spotted her. “Uh, um, I ticked them off and ordered them to lose an order mark each and to get back to their common rooms. I was feeling angry then, cos Astrithr had cheeked me. I came down the corridor, and nearly fell over Alix, Christa and Rosie who were about to start a frog hopping race.“ Again Jack stopped to control herself, and swallowed before continuing. Miss Wilmot refrained from commenting on Jack’s English and let her carry on.
“I had to stop to tick them off too, and to send them off to Miss Burn who was expecting them in the gym about 10 minutes before.” Miss Wilmot sighed and decided to hurry Jack along.
“Jack! Please tell me about Miss Annersley – it is very important that we know as soon as possible what you know.”
Jack looked conscious stricken and quickly continued. “Yes Miss Wilmot. I’m sorry. Well, I knocked on her door, but no body answered. I was about to turn to go back to the Prefects room, but I heard something. I knocked again, and then decided to go in. I went in, and saw Miss Annersley lying over her desk. I went over to her, and remembered what you taught us in Guides - the ABC. Her airways seemed fine, but she wasn’t breathing. I, I think I just panicked then. I tried calling out for Miss Dene, I thought she might still be in her office, but nobody came. There wasn’t anyone around, so I just ran to the staff room to find someone. And, and I think that’s it please.”
Here Miss Wilmot almost smiled at Jack’s reversion to a small child confessing her sins. But she quickly grasped the situation she was in and nodded at the tall girl.
“Thank you Jack”, was all she said however. “Please keep all this to yourself. I will come to you myself once I’ve seen how Miss Annersley is.” She was interrupted by Rosalie opening the door, “Nancy, quick we need you! The ambulance is on it’s way, but we don’t think she’ll make it. Matron is unavailable, and you’re the best person we have for first aid.” Nancy pushed past her and disappeared inside.
“Jack, be strong. Go to the front door and guide the ambulance men here, the less time wasted the more chance there is for Miss Annersley.”
Jack, with tears rolling down her cheeks, made her way to the front of the school to await the ambulance. Her thoughts were in turmoil, and she could barely see where she was going, her feet stumbling and her arms searching the walls for the way. “If only she doesn’t die, please, she mustn’t die!”

Jack leaned against the doorframe, seeing nothing but the face of Miss Annersley, as she lay deeply unconscious in her office. She started as the ambulance’s sirens penetrated her thoughts, and quickly looked up to peer down the driveway. The ambulance was speeding past Freudesheim and soon turned into the school grounds. Jack rushed down the steps, and wrenched open the door, startling the paramedic and causing him to grab hold of the dashboard to stop himself falling out. He jumped down and spoke to Jack, his nametag presenting him as ‘Bob.’
“Where to Missy?”
“In here – quick! Please, she’s very ill…”
“Whoa now, calm down.” He interrupted her, speaking soothingly, but also instilling a sense of calmness in Jack, encouraging her to speak quietly and to control herself. “Where is she? Lead the way!” Jack barely had time to notice that the other paramedic was called Niklas.
Whilst Jack and Bob had been speaking, Niklas had collected a large bag from the back of the ambulance and had placed it on a trolley, which they had then removed and wheeled to the bottom of the steps, picking it up as Jack quickly ran to the top of them and into the entrance hall of the school.
She saw Wanda and Renata coming down the stairs, but didn’t stop to explain as she led the way to the Head’s study. They saw her, and the paramedics behind her, and swiftly followed.
Jack threw open the door to the study, and the paramedics strode in. Rosalie Dene looked up with a heartfelt sigh, echoed by Mddle and Nancy Wilmot. “Thank heavens you’ve come! She’s not breathing, and we’ve not been able to get a response from her.”
Jack heard no more, as the door was closed.
She continued to stare at it, mesmerised by the image she had briefly seen. Miss Annersley had been lain on her back, her head tilted to one side slightly. Her lips were blue and parted. Her skin a clammy, grey colour. Her eyes were shut, her beautiful blue-grey eyes unseeing and locked away behind her lids. Her hair a mess on the floor beneath her head, her brow sweaty. Never before had Jack seen a sight more terrifying. Tears welled up afresh in her eyes.
A comforting arm wrapped itself around her shoulder. “Oh Jack! What then is wrong?” Jack turned slightly, her mind somewhat comforted by the soft tones of her close friend Wanda. She stared blankly at her though, her voice unable to project itself to speak the words she knew would cause such hurt to her friends. Renata spoke, “Please Jack, wont you tell us what is happening? Maybe we could help?”
Before Jack could respond, the study door opened, and Bob & Niklas appeared, wheeling Miss Annersley out.

ETA: As promised, here's some more! Not alot though sorry
She was lying flat on the trolley bed, her body strapped to it, her arms resting out on the creamy blankets. A tube was going into her left forearm and led to a clear bag, which hung from a hook at the corner of the bed. A mask was over her face, her skin still grey and clammy, although her lips had lost their terrible blue tinge.
Miss Dene, Mddle and Miss Wilmot followed silently as the men wheeled their beloved Head towards the front door. Jack and her friends looked at each other and quietly followed too. As the men reached the top step, they turned and asked who was to go with them. “I will!” Miss Wilmot spoke quickly, forestalling her companions cries of their wish to go. “Jean, I need you to take control here, and Rosalie you’ll be needed in the office – plus I need someone to talk to.” Two heads nodded at her, their owners looking desperate and on the verge of tears now that Hilda was in capable hands.
Miss Annersley was quickly loaded into the ambulance, Miss Wilmot climbing in to sit by her side and leaning out to say quietly “I’ll ring as soon as I know anything. The girls must be told. The Seniors will probably guess, so it will be better to tell them as much as they need to know. The Middles and Juniors need be told less, just that Miss Annersley is very ill and has been taken to the San to be looked after.” She paused, then “Pray for her, and for the doctors to have the strength and ability to bring her back to us.”
The door was closed, and as Niklas turned sirens and lights on, it sped off into the twilight night, the sirens echoing along the Platz, many people peering out from behind curtains to see what the problem was.

Jennie - RL problems are (you might want a cuppa to get you through this!) incredible fatigue, Bob pain, Alf pain (spreading and getting worse on a weekly basis ), placement going badly, 2 of my patients dying, my Mum still having problems with cancer and MRSA, 2 essays to be written, contemplations of leaving nursing because of pain, a very close friend and her partner having a rough patch - neither of their faults, some mad woman was convinced steve was her daughter's father, so was v angry when DNA results came back saying they were in no way related- she got pissed off and sent her hubby after him with a knife! And, um, I think that may be it!
So if you think you can work all that into a drablble, I'll not only be fairly spectacularly amazed but also incredibly grateful!
Big, big huggles, Kat! I hope things start to get better for you soon.
