#1: Chalet School at the Olympics Author: Richenda PostPosted: Wed Aug 25, 2004 1:33 pm

Had a sudden inspiration whilst watching the Olympics. No research or anything done, so apologies for that!

The national anthem swelled. The tall girl stood on the centre of the podium, tears in her eyes, overcome with the emotion of winning gold. At the end of the anthem, the three medal winners gathered together for the customary photo opportunity. The gold and silver medal winners gave each other a bear hug – Gold and Silver for Great Britain!

Back in Switzerland, a select gathering of Gornetz Platz residents were at the Chalet School gathered around the television in the pretty staffroom watching events unfold. “I knew that Katt Gordon was destined for Wimbledon” remarked Miss Wilson “But an Olympic Gold – that is something special”.
“Not as special as Blossom Willoughby coming in with a Silver!” retorted Biddy Courvoisier, who had come over to the school for the party. “The girl was always heedless – didn’t think she had the temperament for it. Heaven knows what she’ll come out with in the press conference, I hope she curbs her slang”

Over-excited commentary made them swing their attention back to the television. “Oooh” said Kathie Ferrars “It’s the 800 metres final next. This is what we were waiting for!” The staff plumped down to watch the race, each helping themselves to a handful of chocolates to aid the process. The British girl appeared to be at the back of the pack, and the staff started cheering her on. As the leaders entered the final bend, the Brit started to move steadily through the pack, reaching the front with just 2 metres to go – another Gold!!!

Grizel Sheppard grinned. “When Neil called Con a ‘fleet footed Thetis’ he was certainly on the mark! But even he never thought she’d be an Olympic gold medallist! What a performance we’re seeing from our girls”

The fact that three Chalet School girls had all won medals in the space of an hour was of great interest to the media. Of course, the women’s hockey team had also got a bronze the previous day, and ¾ of them were of course also former Chaletians, but 2 gold and a silver were something special.

The press conference began with all 3 athletes facing the media. Much was made of the school links, and the Gornetz residents all nodded with satisfaction, particularly Hilary Graves and Peggy Burnett who were looking remarkably smug considering they’d done very little. Blossom managed to refrain from the wilder elements of her vocabulary much to Miss Annersley’s relief, and Con’s habit of blurting out whatever came into her head stood her in good stead for facing the press.

I was wondering about chalet girls in the Olympics this morning - but not to these extremes. Is Mary-Lou in the swimming?

Maybe we could have someone unexpected. Verity-Anne for the high jump or pole vault anyone?

This is good though.

One question, have any of the girls from other countries won medals?

OK I've already completed it, so can't take into account ALL of your ideas, but one or two aren't too far off the mark...

Suddenly, clarion tones reached the stage from the back of the room “I’m here!!” the voice announced, and the three girls on the stage all groaned. Mary-Lou reached the stage clutching HER silver medal for the 1500M freestyle swimming. “I hope you hadn’t forgotten about ME!” she announced to the press. She could have sworn Katt Gordon muttered “fat chance” but a Chalet girl wouldn’t be so cruel so she discounted the thought.

Immediately, every question was hijacked by Mary-Lou – even ones specifically addressed to the other girls. After all, as Mary-Lou said to them – Con was too tactless, Blossom too slangy, and Katherine? Well, surely her Aunt’s disorganised nature had been passed to her. Of course Mary-Lou was best equipped to answer all the questions!

#17:  Author: Richenda PostPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2004 9:19 am

Back at the Chalet, the staff laughed indulgently “How like Mary-Lou! One of our best head girls! How she did it after that back injury!” Only Kathie Ferrars gave a slightly impatient sigh, but she’d learnt that as far as the staff were concerned, the sun shone from Miss Trelawney’s posterior, and it didn’t pay to argue.

Not sure whether to post the whole lot today? It's not v long. Here's a bit more anyway

The press conference was winding up, when a golden voice lifted up into “Hark, Hark the Lark” for no apparent reason. “Oh blast” said Con “Mother’s here”. Joey Maynard burst into the room, demanding attention. “Hello everyone, I’m here at last!!! Nearly missed the press conference. My car had no air in the tyres! I thought I saw Len messing with them, but she must have been trying to fix them for me!” She climbed up onto the dais, pushed Con gently out of her seat and plonked herself down.

“Well” she began impressively “I expect you’re all DYING to know how I won 5 gold medals – 100M freestyle, 200M Butterfly, 400M breaststroke, 800M Butterfly AND” with a triumphant look at Mary-Lou “Gold in the 1500M freestyle” She paused, and looked at her audience expectantly “All this as well as having 11 children AND being a best selling author AND” she continued, leaning forward confidentially “I may as well tell you that I’m going to be very busy this winter and we’re hoping for Quads…… So put that on your needles and knit it!”

Actually, I think that honour should be saved for Con - she soooo deserves it!

#41:  Author: Richenda PostPosted: Tue Aug 31, 2004 10:52 am

Thanks for the praise Ladies. Bit more here, with a mini cliff (more of a hillock really

Nell Wilson chuckled “Oh, Joey was always wholesale!”
“And always our best swimmer, despite only practising once a year at the Tiern See!” continued Miss Denny
“ahhhh the dear Jo” said Frau Meiders sentimentally, whilst knitting the scarf she had been working on for the last 25 years.
Kathie gave out something akin to a snort and helped herself to more chocolate.

The press were getting pretty annoyed by all the interruptions in their press conference. But the final interruption made it all worth while, and made it THE story of the games.

Tee Hee!! Last little bit now

A white coated doctor entered the room. “I’m afraid Mrs Maynard, that your drug test after the 100M brought up an abnormality – we found traces of a performance enhancing drug”.

Joey collapsed, still, grey, and to all appearance, dead.

Mary-Lou bellowed “That means I must get GOLD now!!”. The doctor’s assistant shook her head. “I’m afraid not Miss Trelawney. Your sample also contained a high level of a sedative of some sort”

“But Matey just gave me a dose because I was over excited! It can’t do me any harm!” wailed Mary-Lou. Matey had joined the Olympic medical team on the insistence of Joey – the team manager had given up trying to reason with someone who had always had their own way.

In the pandemonium that followed, Con, Katt & Blossom were left with the Doctor and assistant. The medics took off their cunning disguises and revealed their true identities – Len and Margot.
Katt gave a grin “So you two had something to do with this? Nice work!”
Len, with her innate sense of fairness, grinned back “Well, it’s about time Mother and Mary-Lou got thoroughly sat on – it’s Con’s time to shine. All we had to do was pop a little something Margot found lying around in the lab into Mamma’s pre-race cream cake.”

Blossom asked curiously “What will you do if she finds out?”
Margot laughed “We’ll just blame my devil, say we’ve got toothache and that we take after her – we’ve always got away with it before…..”
