Part One is here.

Just a brief scene to whet your appetites, more tommorrow I promise

“You’re next.” The slim puckish girl who had been introduced to them as Betsy Lucy, the head girl, nodded to Miranda. “Don’t forget to curtsey.”
“Curtsey?” Miranda’s whole expression spoke disbelief.
Betsy laughed good naturedly and demonstrated. “We all do it to the Head.”
“Strewth!” Miranda threw a ‘what on earth have you got me into?’ look at Nicola and rapped firmly on the door.
The room in which she found herself was as unlike Miss Keith’s official-looking office as the lady who rose to greet her was unlike Miss Keith herself. It was spacious and sunny, with bowls of flowers on the windowsills and a stunning view of the mountains beyond – Miranda, despite a proclaimed indifference, had not yet reconciled herself to the natural grandeur of the scenery here- and Miss Annersley herself was tall and elegant in an MA gown, with piercing blue eyes whose potential threat was offset by a charming smile.
“Miranda.” Hilda Annersley, the headmistress of the Chalet School, shook hands with her and waved her to a chair. “Did you have a good journey?”
“Yes thank you,” Miranda said properly. “We flew out from England a few days ago so we only had to come from Interlaken this morning.”
“Ah yes, you came with the Marlows, didn’t you. We are putting you and Nicola in the same form, so you won’t be completely among strangers.” Miss Annersley consulted some notes in front of her. “Your mistresses at Kingscote speak highly of you, both academically and personally. We’ll try you in Upper IVa, which is the top form of the Middle School - I think you’ll manage the work there very well. Now, one other matter, my dear. I presume your parents won’t want you to attend either sets of Prayers?”
“I don’t suppose Daddy would mind awfully,” Miranda said easily. “I mean, it’s not as though I’m suddenly going to start believing something else, but I do see it isn’t really the done thing. I was in the Kingscote Nativity Play last year and nobody who knew minded, but some people who didn’t know might have, if you see what I mean.”
Miss Annersley raised her eyebrows. “Yes, Miss Keith mentioned that particular episode,” she said drily. “All the same, I do know what you mean, my dear. Very well, you may use the library whilst the others are at Prayers or attending our chapels. Now, will you send Nicola Marlow in for me, please, and then Betsy will take you both to your formroom. I hope you will be very happy with us.”

“Not sure I’ll get used to this curtseying lark,” Nicola murmured to Miranda as she came out of the library five minutes later. “I felt all kinds of a fool.”
“I forgot,” Miranda confessed.
“Accidentally-done-on-purpose?” Nicola asked, grinning.
“No, honest truly forgot, though I don’t say I would have done it if I’d remembered,” Miranda grinned back. “How did you go?”
“She said she hoped I’d see this as a fresh start and a chance to put my murky past behind me,” Nicola said frankly.
Miranda giggled, drawing a disapproving glance from the prefect. “I bet she didn’t! All the same, lousy of Keith to have told tales. I never understood why she had her knife into you so badly anyway. You were no worse than anyone else, not really.”
“Oh well.” Nicola wriggled uncomfortably – she too had never really understood what she had done to merit that conduct mark and her natural sense of justice refused to let her forgive her old headmistress for it.
“Enough whispering, you two.” Betsy said firmly. “Once someone else arrives to take over here I’ll take you to the Senior Middles common room, until then you can hold your tongues.”
“What about me?” Lawrie piped up from behind them.
“What about you, kid?” Betsy consulted her list and then looked from her to Nicola. “I presume you’re Lawrence Marlow?”
Lawrie nodded. “I meant, won’t you wait for me too.”
“You’re for Lower IVa,” Betsy said, not unkindly. “That’s the top form in the Junior Middles – I’ll come back for you and the other two new girls.”
Lawrie bit her lip, her face flushing darkly. It had never occurred to her that they would be separated. Sure, at Kingscote Nick had moved ahead of her, first to IIIa and then to IVa, but by then she had had Tim.
Nicola saw what was happening and gripped her hand. “Buck up, Lal, do!” she urged. “You can’t howl here.”
“Lawrence, Miss Annersely will see you now,” Betsy interrupted. “Miranda, Nicola come with me please.”
Lawrie bit her lip hard and watched as her last link with home walked out of sight without a backward glance, then raised her hand and knocked.

Well, if she has a fit of the dramatics at the CS, she's in for a shock!

Well I've not written it yet but being Lawrie I don't know how she could help herself.......

The question is, who will find it hardest to become a Real Chalet School Girl? Hysterical Lawrie, flaky Ginty or sensible Nick (Ann is already one so doesn't count) Votes?
