All shall be well

#1: All shall be well Author: JoeyLocation: Cambridge PostPosted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 6:25 pm

This snippet just came to me & I decided to brave the CBB by posting. Good practice for when I start posting my long drabble! This is definitely complete.

I know how much I owe them.

I know how much they love me & depend on me, especially Joey. Of course she has Jack to lean on, and the kiddies, but she’s the kind of person who needs to lean.

They’ve babied me so much. They still called me “the baby” when I was ten – even though we had Peggy, Rix and David by then! I know I probably wouldn’t still be alive, if it weren’t for all Oncle Jem’s care of me. They always pretended I was too little and not bright enough to understand when they were doing all those tests, but I am bright and intelligent and I did understand, and it wasn’t funny.

I didn’t mind so much till we got to Wales, and I was so much stronger. But then I began to resent it, very quietly, and much as I tried not to. It was I who had to look after the triplets when Joey was grieving for Jack. Madge and Jem had no time for them, only for Joey. And I did more than help with Daisy and Primula.

Even after I was Head Girl – after I had proved that I was dependable – they still insisted on pretending I was so much younger than my age. They tried to stop me growing up, and that wasn’t fair.

I love them all so much, and I am so grateful, I really can’t put it into words.

But my real place, my real home is with my God – not with earthly friends. I know that’s true, and I can’t deny it any more – however much it may hurt them.

If they really love me, and really know me and care about me, they will understand, won’t they?

Won’t they?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.

They will understand.

I'm going to tell them.

This is so nice, Joey! It really brings out some of the resentment at being babied, as well as the certainty of her faith and vocation! Thank you.

Lovely. I always saw Robin as finding it hard to tell the family about her vocation, worried about how they would react.

Lovely fill-in - so nice to see Robin's POV - and I'm sure she would feel some resentment!

Thanks Joey - will wait for main drabble with anticipation.

She doesn't. The first we hear of it is in Wrong I think, when Joey hints something about Robin in a letter to H&N with the words "it's her life." Then in Shocks, Jack breaks the news to Hilda and Rosalie and Matey; and finally in Joey Oberland Robin tries to explain something of what was going through her head.

All of which is to say that this ties in beautifully!
More please Very Happy Unlike some people, I never had a problem with Robin. Twisted Evil

Thank you for the nice comments everyone Embarassed Embarassed

Liz, I was sure this was finished, but in bed last night I started thinking about Robin actually telling them. I have five and half hours on the train on Friday & eight hours on Sunday (cos of engineering works - bah humbug), so I might see what I can do. Absolutely no promises though!

The quote is from Mother Julian of Norwich, a medieval religious mystic
