A little message for Vikki. You really shouldn't have suggested we were taking something! You really, really shouldn't! In fact you were asking for this, weren't you Vikki? Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Hilda Annersley sat back in her chair in the Staff Room with a sigh of relief and took the cup of Mlle Lachenais’ coffee from the hands of that lady with a smile of gratitude. It was not often that she came into the Staff Room, preferring to leave it as strictly the domain of her staff. On this occasion she had been given an invitation for coffee and cakes, and she had accepted with gratitude, even though she had a good idea that she would be presented with a problem. The suspicion was intensified when Miss Wilson, her co-Head and Head of St Mildred’s, also appeared in the room. When her friend sank into the seat beside her she smiled ruefully at her.
“I wonder what the problem is this time,” she murmured with a twinkle in her eyes. “There’s sure to be something if you have received an invitation too.”
“Undoubtedly,” responded Nell Wilson. “How would they manage without us?”
“Very well indeed if truth be known. However, we must allow them to think they need us or we may find ourselves without a job!”
At that moment she found a box of patisseries thrust under her nose, obviously brought up from Interlaken that day by Nancy Wilmot who had had the afternoon free.
“Have one of these,” said Kathie Ferrars with a smile. “First choice for our guests.”
“Now I know there’s something the matter,” muttered Nell Wilson. “Cakes from Interlaken spell trouble in my book.”
However, it was to be some time before the nature of the staff’s problem became clear, for it seemed that no one wanted to broach the subject. The talk at first revolved around the Middles latest prank. Someone had been reading the Book of Legends again and had seen fit to revive the drama group that Betty Wynne-Davis and Elizabeth Arnett had formed in the Dark Ages when the school had been at the Tiernsee. Then the club had run after Lights Out on the flat roof of St Clare’s House. They had been caught by the Prefects, augmented by Joey Bettany, as she had been then, and speedily brought to their senses. This time the girls had at least kept to times when they were supposed to be awake, though only just, performing their plays in the time between going upstairs and Lights Out. All would have been well had they not decided that their theme would be in the nature of horror stories which had been embellished to blood-curding proportions by the cast. Inevitably they had been caught when one of the more sensitive girls began a series of nightmares that had woken not only the whole of her dormitory, but Matron herself, who had speedily got to the bottom of the affair. Retribution had been swift and the culprits had found themselves docked their Saturday night treat, spending the time hemming sheets in Matey’s room.
A hush fell over the company as the laughter died away and it was clear that someone was going to pluck up the courage to bring up the real reason for the invitation. Rosalind Moore glanced round at her peers, none of whom met her eyes, and sighed.
“Very well, I’ll start the ball rolling,” she said. “I suspect you already guess that we had an ulterior motive for inviting you both for coffee this evening, and your guess would be right. We are at our wits end to know what to do and hoped you might be able to help in some way.”

“As you may have guessed the problem is one of the girls,” Rosalind continued.
“So why isn’t Joey here as well?” asked Bill, half rising to go and ring her.
“Because,” said Nancy Wilmot with a sigh, “the problem is Con Maynard.”
“CON!” Both heads were amazed.
“There is never a problem with Con, she’s the good one, the quiet dreamer, are you sure you don’t mean Margot?” Hilda was confident that they had the wrong girl.
“They are not identical you know,” snapped Rosalind.
“Well we know that, because they split Joey’s characteristics between them,” Hilda replied.
“Oh come on, Len leads because she has always been told to, Margot is naughty because she has been told since she was a baby that she is, and Con, well till we discovered this situation, Con was overlooked so we presumed her dreamy.” Kathie Ferrars was loosing patience yet again with the CS way of treating certain people.

Nancy rose and walked towards the door saying “I think to explain matters fully you had better come to the music room and see what we found this morning.” The mistresses trooped off together, hand in hand down the corridor to the room where some of them were to face their worst nightmare. The music room was the one hundredth and first room in the school and was down a narrow fight of stairs. They all trooped down there, still hand in hand and Nancy slowly opened the door.

The Heads looked around in astonishment. Never in their wildest dreams had they expected this from any of their girls, and especially not Con Maynard. It was not just the redecoration that seemed to have been done overnight, nor the body parts in jars. Nor was it the mist rising from the floor that attracted their attention. The junior tied to a stone slab in a pit that had appeared in the middle of the room caused a second glance, but it was not their main concern.
“Please stop screaming Perditia,” said Miss Annersley automatically. “You may write out Shakespeare’s speech about a woman’s voice 25 times for me tomorrow.”
“yyyyyes Miss Annersley” the junior was not sure who was more terrifying, Miss Annersley or Con.

The thing that attracted their attention was, well they were not quite certain. It was Con, but not as they had last seen her. The second head was new, as were the additional four arms, and her skin seemed to have taken on a different hue, but what attracted their attention the most was the way she now appeared to tower over them, being, Bill estimated quickly about 10 feet tall.

Over in the corner was what looked suspiciously like an imp. It was small, which was why they had overlooked it at first, but it was jumping up and down shrieking something they couldn’t quite make out, since even at full pitch the voice was quiet. A pair of tiny horns peeped out of it’s long hair; and a red tail curled around it’s back. Stepping gingerly into the room, Bill could finally hear what it was saying.
“That’s it, hun. You’ve got the right idea!”
Bill frowned in annoyance, but her co-Head was before her, not for the first time.
“Mary Constance Maynard!” she said firmly, making the huge figure jump. “Why are you out of uniform?”
The incongruous question made Con look at the Head for the first time.
“Hello Auntie Hilda,” she said brightly. “Do you like the new décor I here? I got the idea from my new friend. She’s called Vikki - you have to use the short you know, or she doesn’t answer!”
That’s a funny name for an imp,” said Bill, entering into the spirit of the thing. “Are you sure you’ve got that right Con?”
Of course she has!” shrieked the tiny demon. “Just you try calling me by my full name and see what happens!”
Hilda Annersley looked thoughtfully at it. “Well Victoria,” she said. “I think it’s time to end this farce, don’t you?”
Vikki screamed, a piercing, ear-splitting shriek that seemed to go right through their heads.
“You’ve done it now, Auntie Hilda,” said Con, though the two Heads could see that she was shrinking slightly, being a good two feet smaller than when they had entered. “You never know what she’ll do when you use her full name. I did try to warn you, and Saints can’t do more.”
The little imp was now waving a trident about and going almost purple in the face, clearly trying to cause some sort of mayhem and not succeeding.
“I think you will find my power stronger than yours in this school, Victoria. Now stop behaving like a spoilt child, calm down and put this place back into some semblance of order.”
To Bill’s relief Con had become her normal size under Hilda Annersley’s baleful eye, and two of her arms were rapidly shrinking back into her body. However, she still had two heads, one which looked to be her own with the black hair she had inherited from her mother, the other looking more like her father than any of his other children. They seemed to be working independently of each other, which both Miss Wilson and Miss Annersley found a little disconcerting, though neither gave any sign of that of course. They had trained themselves to seem cool calm and collected under all circumstances, having found themselves presented with the weird and wonderful all their lives.
Meanwhile the long-haired sprite, looking less like an miniature devil and more and more like a naughty schoolgirl, had given up the fight. Still refusing to speak since the use of her full name she had deigned to release the unfortunate Perditia, who lost no time in scarpering as fast as she could. She had the idea that she might be able to start her punishment that night and get part of it over and done with. With Perditia released the pit closed up again, covering the hole in the floor and the stone slab, and the air immediately began to clear of the smoke.
“Now Con, which of your two heads do you intend to keep,” said Miss Wilson, who was secretly biting the insides of her cheeks to stop herself from laughing. Miss Annersley was in the same sort of state, and their eyes met, promising themselves a good laugh when they could get the privacy. The door opened slightly and Nancy put her head around it tentatively, but withdrew quickly when she saw that things were still not completely under control.
“Well Con. We’re waiting. Make your choice. I suggest you keep to the head that most people recognise as being yours, as that will make things a little easier for you.
Con nodded her head - the dark haired one, and reached into her pocket, bringing out a sharp pin with which she pricked the other head. It deflated like a balloon and she tucked the bits away under her collar. (Those of you who have played Theme Hospital will get the mental picture)
“That’s better my dear. Now what else needs dealing with? Oh yes, Victoria. You have been very quick to clear the mess up, so I think we may return to the use of your shortened name. Would you like to continue here as a pupil Vikki?” Miss Wilson was all sweetness and light now that they had full control over the situation.
“Not on your life! You two are far too strong for me! I’m off!” and Vikki disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
“I thought there was a funny smell in here,” remarked Miss Annersley thoughtfully. “But it seems to be clearing now. Come along Con, it’s time for your closed-door session in my office.”
And the two Heads swept the quaking Con up the stairs before them.
