Jo was at her desk when she heard steps in the hall. She turned away from the door, intent on her papers as her husband entered the study. She answered his greeting, but didn't look up. He was across the room in two strides and took her face in his hands.
"Joey?" his voice was full of concern as her dark eyes avoided his.
"I'm sorry, Jack. I just miss her so much."
He held her close. On the desk, half hidden under several sheets of Madge's neat script, was a photograph of a girl with red-golden curls, big blue eyes and a mischeivous smile. There were tears in his own eyes as he thought of their third daughter, and the gap she had left in their family. After another long moment he kissed his wife and turned her face back towards him.
"Joey, how would you like to go to Canada?"

How sweet, thank you. There's so many drablbes now that show Joey and Jack in a...how do I put it? A non-EBD light is what I think I mean. Not that I'm complaining, but it is nice to see a EBD moment from time to time.

I wish somebody would offer me a trip to Canada when I was feeling down. *puts call out for SLC*

that was lovely. I did wonder how EBD meant to show J & J's reaction to such a radical decision. I don't think she meant to show them as uncaring but rather as reserved - which was typical of their times.
