A Flamingo with One Leg

#1: A Flamingo with One Leg Author: KatLocation: Swansea PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2004 5:09 pm

The bright pink sparkly flamingo stood deep in the depths of the large flock. It was the only one who wasn’t eating something. Instead it appeared to be contemplating something! Something most definitely unheard of in the elite CBB Flamingo Flock circle.

"How uncouth!" remarked Zarafelia to Aragagaza. “She really has no idea how to behave does she? What if the humans were to notice?? We'd all be put in zoos to be stared at like some common peacock!"

"Oh Zarafelia darling, don't mind her!" Aragagaza cast a quick look at the one legged feathery pink thing. “Xanthe does tell the most charming tales at times. I’m sure we can put up with her peculiarities in light of her literary achievements.”

“Hmm, well, I suppose we could over look such things. We’ll just have to make sure she’s always surrounded though – I’m not having shame brought into MY assemblage by her. It’s bad enough that she’s always over balancing – and into Honora Machiko Lunette Jones as well! I’ve never been so shamed in all my born days! And the day before the big gathering as well. Oh, I shall never live it down.” At which, a broken sob escaped her delicately formed beak and a tear trickled down the fuchsia blushered cheek on to the Barbie coloured lips.

“There there ‘Felia sweetie. It’s all over and done with now. But do tell me darling, how did she lose that leg? There have been some frightful tales going round, and I’m quite certain they were started by that fluffed up Vikki Arabella Luana – have you seen the state on her feathers?! Quite ruffled they are – a shocking example to the younger CBBFF’ers. She really should be preening 317 times a day with feathers like hers, and I’m sure she only does it 312 times.” Aragagaza gave a contemptuous sniff, thinking delightfully of her own sumptuous downy feathers, preened no less than 579 times a day.

Zarafelia gave a scornful look at her friend. “Really my dear, have you honestly no idea how she lost it?” Then as Aragagaza shook her head, she continued “She was born with an awfully dubious patella but has always managed to control herself very well with it. She had exemplary balance – she did go to Madame Tout a Tout Lucille for ballet as all the young should. However, 3 years past, that patella of hers gave way when she was in the feeding queue – you know how long that queue can be to eat at Monsieur Pablo Paco Pancho’s, the food really is divine! Anyway, she was taken to Doctor Jack Maynard – that wonderful man! A solid lump of comfort he is! His decision was very unfortunate. He diagnosed that her constant ‘encounters’ with young Master Peregrine Percival Townsend, had weakened the poor joint so much that she would have to lose the leg. The shame on Master Peregrine Percival, he left the flock immediately – I heard he flew to Ireland and his now shagged up with someone of great stature – Lady Lisa de Papillion Fitzpatrick.”

“Fancy! I’ve heard she’s bringing a book out - Master Peregrine Percival obviously goes for the literary type.”

“Yes indeed my dear Aragagaza. Anyway, Xanthe was heard to say shortly afterwards that for the rest of her days she would ‘be pink, contemplative and stand on one leg’. Of course, she has no choice in the last, but she doesn’t seem to have grasped that. That’s where her curious habit of using her moulted feathers as a scarf came from – I do believe she means to make a whole flamingo-suit one day.”

“Never! The shame would be too great!”

“Oh I wouldn’t worry” Zarafelia looked self-satisfied, a look never far from her face, “Chloë Octavia – that sister of hers – keeps stealing the fathers to use as her pillow at night. Xanthe has yet to notice – it’s hardly likely that she will, she does spend far too long contemplating after all.”

With which comment, Zarafelia and Aragagaza turned one last pitying look upon the one legged Xanthe before starting the 412th preens of the day.

The End.

Embarassed I was talking to Xan online and she said she'd been standing in a queue when her knee had gone funny and she'd had to stand on one leg like a flamingo... I was feeling rather evil (and still slightly hungover! Very Happy )so decided to write a drabble Twisted Evil

As for Zarafelia and Aragagaza, they are honestly both figments of my imagination! (Now you're scared aren't you? Twisted Evil ) Although I did use Edina from Ab Fab for the 'darling's - but not the whole character obviously - can u imagine Edi being that posh???!

Ok, to get to be as mad as me, the ingrediants are:

1 x double malibu and coke at cross keys pub (added kick from giggling
madly at friend as she falls over a fork (dont ask!!))
1 x pitcher of keywest cooler at Indigo cocktail bar (hip gyrating for
10mins whilst at bar essential)
1 x chocolate mistress at Revolution (add table dancing with a pinch of
pole dancing around a friend)
1 x pitcher of woo woo at SA1 (add 3x as much alcohol as we know
barman and he's juiced it up a little for us!)
1 x Vk Blue at Flares (added dancing and chatting with ex-physio
colleague from first hospital placement and light smooch with his as
leaving)
1 x MacDonalds Chicken Nuggets meal with straws sticking out of nose to
show impersonation of a walrus gone wrong
1 x pair of bright red of stiletto heals which will maim feet for life
1 x tripping over cat on landing when you get home (light was off so was
black, and cat is black so bad combination)
1 x waking up at 5am thinking 'my god i'm never drinking cocktails again'
before collapsing back on bed in drunken stupour
1 x different friend who texts you at 8:30am asking how your night out
was - but as you've forgotten to turn phone off/on silent this kind
thought will not be appreciated ad you'll curse til your room turns blue
1 x conversation with Xanthe (or appropriate other person) at later point
of waking day whilst still having large amounts of cocktails inside you

et voila! You should now be as mad as I am. If you are not, trying ringing me so a diagnose of your problems can be made - I apologise on behalf of my answer machine who has gone on holiday, but I assure my fridge does an excellent job of taking messages, although he may repeatedly ask for food until an offer of something chocolately is made.

Enjoy your madness!!

Kat, after all that lot, I'm surprised that you could manage to see the screen, never mind write a drabble.

I'm rather surprised myself to be honest!!

Can't really say much - went to the pub last night and got hyper on fruit pastilles and malibu Confused And am off out again in a minute! I hardly ever go out, but when I do I really go for it!

Who knows, after tonight you may get a drabble about yourself and PatMac being walrus's and having toothache!!! Twisted Evil

But PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE can we see that drabble about PatMac and the Walrus? (It's already in your brain)... you know you want to! Twisted Evil
