Bunny bit me!

The flight had touched down some two or three hours late; that, combined with the time taken to get through Customs and Passport control on an exceptionally busy Friday afternoon at Heathrow, meant that, by the time the two women were ready to set out on the last stage of their journey, the evening rush hour had started with a vengeance. After a short discussion the pair abandoned their plans for renting a car and instead hired two powerful motorbikes, reasoning that they would be more likely to get through the traffic.

After completing all the preliminaries the two walked out into the cold, damp late-February air, as they did so, both women involuntarily shivered. The man from the hire company noticed,

“I expect it’ll seem very cold in comparison with where you’ve come from?”

“You could say that!” one of the women replied with a slight grin.

“At least you weren’t here last week,” the man continued, “It was snowing then!”

“Oh, I think we’d both have enjoyed seeing the snow,” the other woman said gently.

The bikes were checked over and the two women swiftly, and with some experience, packed their luggage into the panniers, a short time to change into suitable clothing and they set off into the traffic. As they had thought, having motorbikes rather than a car meant that their journey time was far swifter, although one of the women chaffed noticeably at the speed restriction through all the road works. Eventually, however, they managed to leave the M25 behind, travelling on another busy motorway toward their destination.

When they had left the motorways behind they managed to get themselves lost trying to find the correct turning. Stopping at a bus stop on a fairly busy road they tried to decipher their directions.

“This is ridiculous!” The woman sounded rather annoyed, “Don’t these roads have signs? It’s not War time, you know!”

“You were the one that said you could follow these directions,” the other, somewhat calmer voice returned, “you are supposed to be an expert in geography!”

“Hah!”

The two women’s wrangling stopped when a helpful passer-by pointed them in the right direction. The two sped off. When they finally reached the little village, it took them three attempts at the one-way system to locate their destination. Not that the house was small, but without any numbers to guide them, they kept going past and it was a one-way street. Eventually they knocked at the door.

Inside they could hear a number of women’s voices, chatting, as the knocker sounded the voices grew louder, wanting to know who had arrived.

“Sounds like quite a party!” whispered one of the women to the other, then stopped as the door was opened.

The woman at the door was tall, slim with dark eyes and hair. Her face was in a wide grin as she prepared to welcome some more guests. As she saw the two standing there the grin faded a little, “Sorry, you must be new ones, not been to one of these before, who are you?”

The two women smiled, the taller one spoke, “You mean you cannot recognise us straight away? I think I’m a little disappointed!”

The other woman continued, “Yes, we thought this place would be full of fans, we must be mistaken.”

The woman at the door slowly shook her head, “I’m sorry girls, you’ll have to give me a clue, I…” she stopped and her face went white, she swallowed, “It can’t be!” she said faintly.

The two women smiled, “She recognises us now!” one of them said with satisfaction.

The woman swallowed again, then, “Holy Sh*t!”

Without another word the woman ushered her two guests into the lounge, there were perhaps fifteen women there, all ages from late teens to early sixties, they were all calling out a welcome. As the two women walked into the room they started to call hellos, but these died as each person suddenly recognised the pair.

Rachael swallowed a rather large lump in her throat, “Er,” she began, “These are all the Friday night people for the February Gather,” she smiled slightly at the two women, then, turning to the suddenly silent group of women she continued, “These are Hilda Annersley and Nell Wilson!”

Do fictional people (not that I am for one minute suggesting that Hilda and Nell are fictional of course, this is just a general enquiry you understand Wink ) show up in photographs? I do trust Vikki has her camera(s) to hand.

Lesley. I don't think this is complete, after all they have only just arrived. You wouldn't tease us like that now would you?

What am I thinking of, this is Lesley I'm talking about, of course you would. Will pleading have any effect? Bribery? Anything??? We are not worthy

I don't think I have anything to bribe Lesley with but I can plead with the best of them:

Dearest shiny wonderful Lesley, please, PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE may we have a little more of this? I would so love to see everyone's reactions and the subsequent conversation!

Undoubtedly - especially if you did your world-renowned duck dance!! Wink

ETA - or did you mean you'd wonder at your own sanity if Hilda & Nell turned up? Embarassed Confused

I actually meant the latter but consider the embarrassment should they turn up when I was doing the duck-dance... Embarassed

Note to self: make sure posts are not ambiguous unless its deliberate!
