I wrote this for the SG, but as it came out ti the best part of 900 words I thought I'd post it here!

Matey took one look and reached for the big bottle, the one in the locked cupboard. Susan and her friends looked at each other in horror. They had been told about this bottle, warned about it in whispers after lights out. There was something about the contents of this bottle that was so awful that no one had actually said what it contained! Now they were to find out the hard way and for what? They felt that they had done nothing to deserve this fate. True they had been caught red-handed having a midnight feast, but surely that did not merit this! They had contrived to lay in supplies during the half-term trip, smuggling them back into school as they felt that they were less likely to be caught in their normal surroundings. Between them they had bought some bread rolls, various salami, crisps, small bottle of pop and some cream cakes which had started off frozen but which were now rather soft and soggy. To this had been added extras from their tuck boxes - pickles to go with the salami, wedges of fruit cake and a part jar of jam.
They had laid their plans so carefully, believing that they would be able to pull off the feat of having a midnight without being caught, something that was supposedly very rare in the chronicles of the Chalet School. One girl in each of the dorms had set her alarm clock for the agreed time and woken the others. They had slipped along to a convenient bathroom, carrying their booty with them. Once everyone had arrived they placed a towel under the door to block out any light and settled down on the floor in the main area of the room. It wasn’t ideal for there was no carpet for them to sit on but they had brought their bath towels to sit on and spread a couple of bath mats to serve as a tablecloth. On this they had laid out their food and it truly looked a veritable feast. Giggling quietly they tucked in, filling rolls with a mixture of salami and pickle or with jam and tearing open the packets of crisps. Having disposed of her share of the savoury items, Susan picked up one of the cream cakes, taking a big bite out of it. Once she had finished her mouthful, she took a quick drink form her bottle. ”That had a bit of a funny taste to it,” she said. “They can’t be off surely, we’ve only had them a couple of days.”
“Oh I shouldn’t think so,” said Wendy. “It probably just that you haven’t had that type before.”
They had finished all the food, even the cream cakes, and had cleared everything away, congratulating themselves on their success, when they heard footsteps coming along the corridor outside. They fell silent immediately and slipped into one of the bath cubicles to hide. To their horror the door opened and someone came into the room, but they were lucky and the mystery person had no idea of their presence, for she left a few minutes later, turning off the light as she went. It was as they stood in the corridor saying goodnight that disaster struck. It was a well-known phenomenon in the school that Matey could move like a ghost when she wanted to and tonight was no exception, for she came round the corner so silently that they never heard her coming and she caught them red handed.
“What are you girls doing out of bed?” she demanded. “And what is that you’re carrying?” She looked at the remains of their feast and whisked them all off to her domain where she inspected the various packets grimly before turning to the cupboard, taking the key from her pocket.
“Those cakes were probably turning,” she said. “Didn’t you realise when you bought them that they should be eaten as soon as they were defrosted? I suppose you bought them in Andermatt at half term, so they have been defrosted for a good three days at least. I’m sorry girls, but we can’t risk food poisoning on top of the rest of the queer mixture you seem to have eaten. This will make you very sick indeed and quickly too, before there is time for you to sicken. I want you to take it in the San bathroom and I shall be watching to make sure you take the full dose. Then you will have to spend what is left of the night here in San where I can keep an eye on you.”
The girls filed mournfully into the bathroom and dank the obnoxious contents of the tumblers they were handed. They were indeed very sick but having been relieved of their wonderful feast in such a manner they were fit for nothing but crawling into bed in the San and falling asleep. Matey allowed them to sleep in the following morning and provided them with a light breakfast of bread soaked in milk, which was about all they could eat after the night before. It was a very subdued group of girls who returned to school after the mid morning break, but like others before them they refused to divulge exactly what was in the bottle in the locked cupboard.

So, will any chalet girls ever succeed with a midnight feast?

That was brilliant Pat, thank you.
