Presents from Father Christmas
The CBB -> Cookies & Drabbles

#1: Presents from Father Christmas Author: KaetheLocation: Australia PostPosted: Sat Dec 25, 2004 12:37 am

Season's Greetings

Father Christmas looked around the CBB living room. At one end there was a roaring fire and the windows closest to the fire showed snow falling against the night-time sky. At the other end, sliding doors opened onto a sunlit verandah with dry grass visible beyond. An enormous Tannenbaum had been placed in the middle of the room and he had just placed the presents of the UK contingent of the CBB underneath it. Meanwhile many of the Australians and New Zealanders had already paid a visit and those in New Zealand and the eastern seaboard of Australia were thinking about Christmas lunch.
Much to the disgust of his elves, Father Christmas had spent a large part of the year reading Cookies and Drabbles rather than paying attention to the wish lists that were sent in continuously. He had fallen off Lesley's cliffs, laughed hysterically at some of the more hilarious postings and made good use of his handkerchief at some of the sadder offerings. He had received so much pleasure from the outpourings of the CBB that he had decided that such industry should not go unrewarded.
He had given some thought to the choice of gift. He wanted to commerate drabbles that had been completed, provide stimulation to CBBers with drabbles in progress and remind some of those who had not updated their drabbles for some time that there were readers out there waiting for the next instalment.
He looked at the list of names and the present listed against each name and hoped that he hadn't forgotten anyone. Still, he had the elves on standby if he or any of the early visitors spotted anyone he had missed.

I got the idea for the type of present from Ali's drabble and a discussion about Con's competition wins elsewhere on the board.

Lesley - Model of the RCS. Some parts were still part bare but hopefully this would give her ideas for future RCS instalments.

Lyanne - Model of Miss Annersley's study containing Beth all tied up, Miss Annersley, Nan, Rosalie and Matey

Rosie - Model of the Armiford branch of a "certain Westminister Bank" containing Miss Wilson and the Upper Second

Patmac - Model of Garnley village

(Father Christmas' dollhouses, etc. don't gather dust and are so realistic that you readily feel part of that world)

Merry Christmas - and thank Father Christmas for me!

Joan the Dwarf - Model of Joey's salon complete with Elinor

Rachel - Model of the Chalet School on the Görnetz Platz. Father Christmas had been tempted to produce a model of her new home on the day that she had moved in but had thought better of the idea once he'd had a good look at the state of the rooms. There were now several Rachel dolls hanging on the Tannenbaum, each wearing a slightly different expression of disgust to represent Rachel entering the different rooms for the first time. There were also 2 other dolls from this first model - Rachel giving the former occupant her unvarnished opinion of him and the former occupant cowering away from her. Rachel's model of the Chalet School was no ordinary model. It was the Chalet School of Ailie's nightmares and contained lots of lovely corpses and various implements of death. Sharlie couldn't resist telling tales which gave the more sensitive girls such as Ailie nightmares so the scenes varied slightly each time the model was opened. Father Christmas was sure that Rachel would have lots of ideas for her next Halloween drabble and would have fun experimenting the rest of the time.

Lucky Rachel! But thankyou Father Christmas, I needed a plan of the study, but a model will be much better. it's even got Matey's secret entrances!

Edited (after jabs from my conscience) to admit that I don't actually celebrate Christmas, but I accepted it in the spririt in which it was meant Embarassed Smile

Sarah_K - Model of the hospital in which Felix recuperated. Sarah_K was to find she had great difficulty in locating the Joey doll half the time.

Rachael - Model of Rick's cafe

Kat - Model of Hilda's room at the San.

Father Christmas frowned as he re-read this last item. Kat had had her own "annus horribilis" and he doubted that she would get "undiluted pleasure" from this model. He considered his options. The only other recent drabble Kat had written was about goldfish. While he could make realistic goldfish to be part of a model, he couldn't make a model of a goldfish. He doubted that GEM would want her room transformed into a model including her goldfish since Kat (or anyone else) would see the current state of her room whenever she (Kat) opened it. Apart from these considerations, he was keen to know what was going to happen to Hilda in the end. There was only one thing for it. He would need to add to Kat's drabble and hope that she would forgive him.

Kat had dropped briefly into the CBB living room.
The first thing she saw was the model of the RCS which Lesley had taken out of its wrappings in the early hours of the morning (UK time). Before leaving to go to bed, Lesley had made sure that the present label was displayed prominently on it. Since Lesley's departure, a nativity scene complete with Tyrannosaurus Rex and WW1 biplane had been added to the model.
As she tore her gaze away from the RCS model, Kat noticed several other CBBers unwrapping models associated with their drabbles. Kat's heart sank. She had a horrible feeling that if there was a present for her it was going to be of Hilda lying unconscious at the San.
She located her present underneath the Tannenbaum. As she unwrapped it, she saw that it was exactly what she had feared. She gritted her teeth and opened the outside wall to look inside properly. Then she blinked. Out of nowhere a black cat had slunk into the room. It jumped onto the bed and curled itself up next to one of Hilda's hands. Imperceptibly Hilda's hand moved to rest on the cat and a faint smile appeared on her face. Kat relaxed. She knew that Hilda would remain stable in the healing presence of the cat and that when she was ready she could take the drabble in whichever direction she wanted it to go

Father Christmas would have left bunnies and bilbies (carefully quarantined of course) for all of the CBBers who had not written any drabbles in the past year but he was conscious of "a pet is for life, not just for Christmas" and wanted to set a good example. Not that some of the bunnies associated with the board could really be considered pets and the bilbies of course were not domesticated at all, but it was the principle of the thing.

He was still worried about having omitted people from the list but he was tired from his long trip and since he really couldn't remember anyone else that sgould be on it he decided to go back to the North Pole, log on to the computer and catch up with the latest drabble instalments.

Very Happy Thank you Kaethe! I'm slightly worried about what Emperor Zhark might do to his model though... Confused

I'm sure Santa must have left something for you - a model of the CBB living room perhaps?

*Blushes, giggles tipsily, then waves a hand at Kaethe... before toppling off her seat to land with a loud squawk on the cat*

*Blushes again*

Thank you Kaethe! This is the first drabble I've read since last visiting the board so was lovely to find myself mentioned. Hilda, bless her sweaty forehead, is currently lying in a tinsel bedecked bed, with mistletoe hanging from her ventilator... hey, she needs a little cheering up right now!

I'll get back to my drabble as soon as boxing day is over, I promise!

xx

Thanks Kaethe, I think. I didn't realise till I saw for myself just how awful I'd made that flat!

Will come in useful if I ever need to test out sunglasses. Laughing

Lovely idea, and it must have taken you a lot of hard work, thanks a lot.

Oops! Embarassed
I'm afraid Father Christmas got a bit confused. You're stated to be the author of the drabble in question because you archived the first bit and he didn't spot the difference in author name. He's substituted something else for you.
