The Sun streamed through the curtained windows, yellow, Joey had chosen the colour, Jack hadn’t been convinced but Joey had insisted and bought them anyway. Jack looked at them again and he knew they were perfect.
Jack left the room and went downstairs to start the breakfast. He put the Pan on and cracked eggs into it and arranged bacon eggs and buttered toast on a tray with Joey’s usual cup of milky coffee. He picked up the tray and opened the door and started up the stairs. Then he remembered, he took the tray back to the Kitchen and emptied it into the bin.

The house was so quiet, Jack realised he missed the continuous clatter and occasional yelps of having children in the house. He sat at the table and put his head in his hands. For how long he sat there he didn’t know, but a distant noise awakened him from this trancelike state, He looked up and saw an old photo, Joey by the sea on one of their holidays, alone, with just a bump suggesting triplets. The wind was playing through her hair, and a grin was flashing across her face. Jack looked hard at the Joey in the picture, was it the same Joey as he had married? He remembered their first encounter, first kiss, marriage, first child. He dropped the photo He knew that he loved her, knew form the day they met, he had never told her enough; he should have told her every minute.

In the hospital, he had sat by her bed. Knowing, like only a doctor could, that it was not hopeful, but Joey was always doing the unlikely, Jack left the ward to gather flowers; Joey had always liked flowers so much. He returned and the cubical curtains had been drawn, he made to open then but someone held him back, “You can’t help her Jack, She’s gone,” Jack’s Medical expertise hadn’t been enough to save her. Jack was lead from the ward and given tea. He returned home, alone, and cried.

I honnestly don't hate Joey! It's just I got bitten by this PB while I was writing "a difficult time" I hope I haven't made any Joey-fans hate me! Wink
