Christmas Eve on the Board

#1: Christmas Eve on the Board Author: patmacLocation: Yorkshire England PostPosted: Tue Dec 21, 2004 4:33 pm

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, ‘cept the click of a mouse;

The drabbles were written, good wishes were sent,
Many were gone, on festivities bent;

Some members were sleeping all snug in their beds,
While visions of holocausts danced in their heads.

The few that remained, settled down with a giggle,
And quickly logged on for an MSN yibble

Real life had been dealt with, the turkey was stuffed,
No chores for the moment, oh my, they were chuffed.

When out in the ether, there arose such a natter,
I hit my keys to see what was the matter.

To open the window I flew like a flash,
Nearly lost my wine glass in such a mad dash.

New drabble, new drabble, up went the cry,
Excitement was such that the time seemed to fly.

A story of wonder, a story of old,
A story afresh whenever ‘tis told;

Of a babe in a manger who came here from on high,
To a virgin, a son, born among us to die.

The web fell silent, the yibble was ceased,
Sighs rose from the members now feeling the peace.

But I heard them exclaim, ere they turned out the light,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.

Apologies to Major Henry Livingston Jr. (1748-1828)
(previously believed to be by Clement Clarke Moore)

I won't be here either - we open all the family presents in the afternoon of Christmas Eve with my parents and have our Christmas meal (a buffet not traditional turkey etc) .
