Sorry several reasons
1 WORK!!!!!!!!!! Free time is a mysterious creature and i haven't seen it for a long time
2 UCAS-I'm still waiting for a reply from UMIST-the uni i really want to go to.
3 worries etc-my graddad's in hospital, exams,
4. complete and utter EXHAUSTION!

Back in the formroom three small girls broke down the door with a desk and piled out into the corridor to find a member of staff.
"Miss Williams! Miss! Please, can you help us! Len and Helena have been kidnapped!"
"Helena? Who's Helena?" Miss Williams said, "Be clearer Elinor."
"She's relly..."
"Kidnapped?" Miss WIlliams said hurriedly. "Sh-sugar! Come on girls, let's go!"

Ruey was also travelling at top speed, Betty had vcontacted the local gendarmerie and now they had an escort. SHe'd nebver driven like this before, it was illegal to start with and terrifying. She glanced at the speedo and whistled under her breath. She hadn't known that the little sports car could travel that fast before.

The three girls and Miss Williams were also on the trail of the captives, while Jo Maynard did the best to comfort her daughter.
"Where are you taking us Miss?" Jenny asked. "And why?"
"I'm a member of MI5, Dr Entwhistle did some, ah special work for us, we knew there'd be a threat so I got posted here. I really thought my cover would be blown when the police arrived, the met are good chaps but not designed for this type of job. You see they think A is the mastermind, but really she's being used by this terrorist group to get Jo Entwhistle. A's working for revenge along with Y but X, Y's girlfriend is a different problem, we've been watching her for a while. I don't know what they're real identities are though."
"Well that's easy, I can tell you who A and Y are!" Caandra said.

To defend Edith here, her "It's a Maynard clue" makes it really, really obvious. Just go and read the archive - there is only 1 person who fits the description for 'A'. Even 'Y' can be fairly easily guessed at, though there are a few more possibilities.

Note - I still haven't put in a guess for guniea pig (but I'm working on it!)

Edith, the problem was that the posts were too short and I'd really forgotten the small details by the time I got more. It would have been better in several larger chunks or one massive one.

"Sure, file it under closed." Betty Wynne Davies ground the stub of her ciggarette out in the ash tray. "I dunno Linda, I really wish I knew what was happening. That's three in a month! Three thefts, three items that have been returned, slightly battered but that's all. Silly things too, a dog, a mercedes benz and strangest of all a complete works of Josephine M Bettany! If I didn't know better I'd say the Chalet school was involved with it somehow...but how could it? I mean, they wouldn't steal anything like that, and if it was someone trying to get in the school, why go to all that effort, I mean they accepted me...OK!" Betty said coughing. "I was expelled, but they've accepted worse, and I've been back there since over a little matter of a stolen necklace, hah! they had a bit of a shock at first! Anyway, I'm on speaking terms with a few characters there, the head of history, she's only recently started teaching again now her kids are old enough, she's an old school friend of mine. She's started writing to me again after the necklace affair. I'll write to Biddy, see if anything odd's been going on." Betty began to write then swore, "Pass me a fresh biro Linda, this one's empty. Cheers!"

Betty here, just wondering if anything odd's going on, we've had some strange cases here, which if didn't know you guys better had a chaletianish ring to them, give me a buzz if you spot anything!

"ANd did ye hear anything to beat that!" Biddy said loudly. "Betty doesn't give any details but it sounds like she wants us to keep an eye open."
"What do you mean?" Len Entwhistle, senior mistress of the chalet school said, cradleing hner mug of coffee.
"Betty's a serious person ever since... well she thinks about stuff alot before she acts, she says that's why she's so responsible and stuff. I think we should keep an eye open!"
The rest of staff nodded, all except one figure who kept silent. "Drat X!" she murmered to herself, "Couldn't she be a bit more secretive! Now the police now, that Wynne-Davies is supposed to be one of the best!"

"X! X!" the man banged on the flat door. "X!"
"Yes?" the door opened to the extent of the chain. "Oh, it's you Y? What's the matter?"
"Theres a message from A, she says the police are on to us, we've got to be more careful and that we need to get Ginea Pig into the school as soon as possible."
"OK," X said. "Leave it to me. I'll get Ginea Pig tonight."

"Guinea Pig!" X strode into the room, and slammed a plate of what for lack of a more suitable noun was called food. "Eat! Have you finished the last book? Good. You'll start the next bit tomorrow... if you want to see your parents again!"
"Yes Miss X, Miss X?"
"what?"
"When will I see my parents again?"
"Soon. Now be quiet!"

"Yes? This is Chief inspector Wynne-Davies? Another? What now? A uniform? Chalet school? I see. Thank you Mrs Jones. You said you had put it with the stuff to go to the jumble sale? How do you know it was stolen? They borrowed your car? Thank you. I'll do what I can. Goodbye... LINDA!"
Sgt Smith looked up from her typewriter. "What's up chief?"
"Another theft, and it's definately a chalet school link, it's a uniform. Dial Switzerland will you and tell them to keep an eye open, oh, and Armitage police station, but i don't think the English branch is their destination!"
"Welcome to the Chalet school! I'm Mrs Courvoisier, the head of history, if you'd follow me." Biddy led the girls over to the hall. "The rest of the girls are in assembally at the moment so if you would just sit here. Ah, Miss Smith, could you tell Miss Wilmot that the new girls have arrived!"#Linda Smith nodded and went back into the hall, no one heard the click of the tiny camera in her pocket.

Betty had been suprised to find out that Linda Smith had been a teacher at a comprehensive school for a while. Jokingly Linda had said that the police fiorce at its worse was better than class 4C.
"Got a picture of the new girls?" Betty whispered. "I couldn't stand that san any longer! I know its a different matey now, but shes nearly as fierce as the old one!"
"Yep, here's the film. See you later. How's freudesheim?"
"Not quiet! But Dr Maynards given me a room to be private for police work!"
"OK," said Linda. "My class is coming. See you later!"

The new arrivals were all in the third room. "Welcome girls," Linda said. "I'm your temporary teacher for the term until Miss Barnes is better. I see there are three new girls, right then, Jo Entwhistle and Casandra Jones, you can do sheepdog. What are your names?"
"Theresa Phillips,"
"Jenny Freeman,"
"Elinor MacDonald."
Linda smiled at them. "Right then girls sit down please!"
The 3 girls sat where they were shown, amoung them was Guinea Pig, wondering what would happen next.

"Recognise any of them?" Linda asked.
"Nope, none of them! Seen anything suspicious?"
"No, nothing."
"Keep looking, I'm trying the town. See you later!"

"Guinea pig! My room, now!"
Guinea pig shrunk against the wall, and crept after the teacher. This was the A that was in charge, X and Y had told her often how A would punish her if she failed...
"Guinea Pig!"
"Y-yes A?"
"We start tomorrow. Are you in contact with the target."
"Y-yes A."
"Good, carry on like this if you want to see your parents again..."

"Jo! Cassandra!" Miss Ferrars said as she walked past. "Aren't you supposed to be sheepdogs."
"Yes miss, but we can't find them."
"Go and find them, they've probably got lost."
"Yes miss,"
They found the new girls eventually, they had met up in the garden.

I think, I've got a lead!" Betty said to Miss Wilmot, the new head of the chalet school. A missing child, but I need a better photo. The hair's wrong, it's been cut + dyed but the rest seems ok."
There was a knock at the door. "Ah yes, Miss Williams, is everything all right?" the head added anxiously as Miss Williams had gone pale at the sight of the detective inspector

"S-sorry Miss Wilson, I've a bit of a headache." Miss Williams said. "I was wondering if you knew where Elinor McDonald was this morning, she never turned up for my geography lesson."
"Elinor, she's one of the new girl's isn't she... have you seen matron yet?"
"No, I couldn't find her either. I'm sorry, I've got to go, I really need an asprin!"

"C'mon you two," Jo Entwhistle said to the two new girls, "let's go and find Elinor."
"Cassandra flicked her very dark hair back out of her eyes. "Oh, but it's so nice and cool here, can't we stay?"
"Stop being so lazy!" said Teresa Phillips, running a hand through her equally dark curls. "Ellie wasn't feelling well earlier, I'm sure she'll want a visitor now."
Jo laughed. "IF matron'll let us see her, she's almost as much of a dragon as that Matron Lloyd that was Matron that Mum used to know!"

"Guinea Pig, remember." Guinea Pig read the note and then threw it on the fire. There was a letter from her parents there. she wasn't allowed to keep them but there had been something wrong about the last few...

A meeting.

"So, A," Y said. sitting back in his chair. My dear sister, what's the matter?"
"Guinea pig. She's not working fast enough, how carefully are you faking those letters, I think she suspects something..."
"Oh I'm being careful sis, it's a wonderful revenge isn't it. The target's mother will be so upset. That'll serve her right for what happened!"
"Yes she will. Look you'd better go, those detectives are still here."

The staffroom

"So Len," Miss Richardson said frostily. "I heard that you're going for that head's post at Carn bach." Ruey glared at her ex-friend. She was still bitter over Len's promotion to Senior mistress. "Giving us a chance are you?"
"No need for that," said Felicity Maynard. Ruey's deputy. "Leave Len alone, she's enough bossing and shouting to do, without having to practice on us!" Felicity steered Ruey over to another corner. Leaving Len glaring at her coffee.

Guinea pig stared at the piece of paper. She didn't want to do it... the target would follow her but she was her friend!
She threw the paper in the fire.
Right, she'd go now and...

Guinea pig walked slowly down the hall. WHere is she? she thought.
At the sound of laughter in the third form common room she went in.
The others were there, and Cassandra Jones and Jo were telling a story about the previous years concert. Guinea Pig sighed, if she didn't act now.

"I've something to tell you all!"

"I I'm not really who you think i am," Guinea pig said miserably. "I, I was sent here to kidnap Jo, for some reason or something'll happen to my parents. Except I think they're dead... cos the letter's aren't right. One of the mistresses, she's A wanted me to kidnap her, to get revenge on Mrs Entwhistle. There are 2 others X and Y who are meant to deal with things in England All i know is that Y is A's brother. Buty i don't want to, that's why I'm telling you what is happening, help me..."
"But..."
"Call me Helenna, that's my real name. Helenna Fox. My mother was a pupil here, oh when Mrs Entwhistle was a pupil, her name was Francie."
"RIGHT!" A burst into the room and grabbed Helenna and Jo.; Before the other three could move, the door slammed and was locked...

Betty nodded, "OK, it's her..."
"What are... sorry Miss Smith...oh! Who are you?" Ruey turned to Betty.
"Chief inspector Wynne Davies, I'm investigating the kidnap of one Helena Fox?"
"There's no Helena Fox here... oh, that's Francie's girl..."
"Yes, I believe you were friends with Mrs Fox..."

"Francie? Yes we were friends... but i haven't heard from her for a bit, she just stopped writing. why?"
""We believed and now we know, that the kidnapped daughter of Francie, Helena Fox was taken here under a disguise for some reason."
"Why, who would do that? You must be daft Chief-Inspector, Hejena doesn't look anything like this girl..."
"Hair dye and makeup, Ruey, hair dye and makeup. It's a pretty simple disguise, but effective. Helena Fox disappeared and replaced by... what was that?" Betty dashed to the window. "It's... and she's got Jo Entwhistle and Helena."
"We've got to get them, the mistress, she won't stop at anything... here, my car's fast and i know the roads. Quickly! We've got to save Francie's daughter!"

Francie Fox as she'd just become had turned up and they were talking before the performance. I never got to speak to her and it upset me so that in the performance i fell and broke my ankle. I never got to go to ballet school and it's all her fault! Now shut up!"

Behind them Betty watched the girls being bundled out of the car and into the woods. "Right Linda, I'm going to go after them, tell the gendarmes to send back up." Betty leapt from the car and began to follow, Ruey leapt after her. "Go back," Betty panted as she ran.
"No, it's Francie's girl, besides I can run faster than you! I'm coming!"
"Well be careful!" Betty bagan to run faster after the escaping four. "They've got a head start but they're burdened down. They might fight rather than run."
"Felicity might, but not Felix, he's too weak. Hey they've hidden over there!"

Are you so naive not to realise that secret agents NEVER reveal their identity. Oh, we'll get a good ransom from that pair... eventually. But you, Casandra, you were the real target. What does your father do all day? Not plain old Mr Jones the banker for sure. More like Mr Jones, once just an ordinary banker, or so we thought, but really working for the police. My clients were very unhappy when he revealed their secrets. It took us a long time to find him, and to find he had a daughter, but now..." Miss Williams smiled nastily.
"But why did you kidnap my friends too?" Casandra said.
"I didn't want to, but I seem to have too many children, ah well, I'd better dispose of them before they do any harm. She raised the revolver.
"DUCK!" Casandra said as the renegade mistress fired.

"No we don't!" Y hissed.
"No Y, whatever your name really is, we do!" Felicity said. "Look!" The gendarmes had arrived. "We give up!"

"I could really do with a coffee!" Betty said.
"I'll make you one in school." Ruey said. "I'm not as good as Jeanne de Lachenais used to be, but it'll be strong!"
Linda smiled suddenly. "I know, you made me one once, only once though, NEVER again!" She glanced at the two school girls. "If you don't mind Betty, I'll go back with that pair, they are my form... at least temporarily after all!" The car containing the two girls had just left in a convoy and only Betty and Ruey were left. Glancing at the state of her car and grimacing Ruey sat down in the driving seat. Betty had just joined her when a shot echoed through the valley.
"Just a local," Ruey said reassuringly, then it was followed by a nearbyscream and two more shots.
"No it's not!" Betty shouted. "It's a kid! Over there!" The twpo women began running towards a rocky outcrop.

Miss Williams fired again, but missed in the semi darkness. Snarling, she switched on a large lamp which illuminated the cave.
Half-blinded by the sudden light Casandra beckoned the others to dive behind a rock. "She can't shoot through rock!" She said. Get behind here, it'll give us a few seconds at any rate and a chance to deal with Jenny."
"Not long." said Elinor. "I'm not sure whether its worth it..." There was a shot above her head. "OK, it's worth it!" She darted towards the rock.
"Right!" Casandra said. "We've GOT to stay together! She wants me alive, so if you stay behind me, against the cave wall, in the corner sghe won't shoot!"
"I-I'm not sure..." said Elinor. "We've not much time, even less with Jenny like she is. Oh why won't help arrive!"

"Hang on girls!" Betty leapt forward, just as Miss Williams began to shoot.
Betty knocked the woman off balance and tried to wrestle the gun off her. There were three bangs as the revolver went off in the pseudomistresses hand. Betty lost her grip and slumped backwards.
Miss Williams shook herself free and began to run for the entrance. Ruey ran to block her.
Raising the gun once more, she aimed it at the young mistress' head and pulled the trigger...

Biology was 1hr, then it was lunch time+ i got dragged to the chippy, then more biology then for my only free the room was full of GNVQ business students!!!!!!!

Miss Williams swore and fumbled to load more rounds, but before she could do it Ruey had knocked her to the ground. "Elinor! Run and get help! But leave me your tie!"
Elinor flung her tie to the ground and ran as fast as possible to get help.
Ruey gasped with pain as Miss Williams managed to free a knife, but the young mistress grabbed hold of the dangerous wrist before it could cause any more harm.

Sitting on Miss Williams legs Ruey tied the other women's feet together. She was still struggling as Ruey dragged her to a large rock and tied her there. "Casandra, keep an eye on her for me!" Ruey said. "I know some first aid and I think it's needed!"
Pulling a first aid kit out of the ruck sack she had picked up automatically when she had started to run, Ruey went first over to Jeny, whose bleeding had begun to slow then over to Betty.
The older woman was in a bad state Ruey could tell and she prayed that help would arrive soon. She had been shot twice, once in the leg and the other... well, she was lucky to be alive.
"COME ON ELINOR!" she thought to herself. "We've not got much time!"

Linda ran in followed by some gendarmes. "OK Ruey, stand back now, you're safe, and you Casandra. Linda glanced at her superior. "base de contact ! Rapide ! Demandez une ambulance !" she barked at a gendarme.
Then she turned to face Miss Williams. "You'll pay for this-but legally I promise you! Unlike your people I prefer my revenge served cold! "Sophie Williams, I charge you with kidnap and two counts of attempted murder, other charges may follow. Anything you say may be taken down in evidence against you."
Ruey turned to the police woman. "Thanks Linda. Can you help us get back down to school. I don't think that I'll be able to drive..." Ruey fainted.

Yes, Edith, it is possible to survive being shot in the lung. What is needed is something flexible and thin to put over the holes in the chest to seal them up, this helps the person who has been shot to breathe better.
