“Do you know these people?” Nell Wilson demanded of Lesley, who was quietly snickering from her vantage point behind Hilda Annersley. Lesley figured that no-one could hurt her there.
“What?” Lesley was to busy watching the bemused expressions on the faces of KB and Vikki to pay much attention to the Head of St Mildred’s. And then there was the argument that appeared to be in progress, strictly sotto voce, between the two witches. Lesley could hear some of it. “I’m not your other half!” Carolyn screeched quietly – if such a thing is possible- into RTW’s ear. “I never said you were!” snickered RTW. “I don’t need another half, sweetie. What a shame that you do!” “I don’t!” Carolyn expostulated. “I can be evil enough for the two of us, just you see!” RTW raised an eyebrow and waved her magical broomstick-cum-crutch at her so-called ‘friend.’ “All by your lickle self?” she jeered. Carolyn swiped the broomstick and thwacked RTW on the head. To her dismay, RTW simply carried on grinning inanely and provokingly. “Now, now, play nicely,” RTW said. “Don’t forget our aim! Universal domination! All we need is our third.” RTW paused and glared at Carolyn. “Especially since you’re not a social piranha!” |

Come to think of it, I have no idea what the Aillard gift is, tough I recall it became sex-linked!)

I still haven't read Redheads. |

Ellie, I think that Lady G meant 'gender linked' rather than sex linked.... As for Aillard/Ardais, I don't think even MZB was clear on that one. I know Ardais is frequently referred to as catalyst, but I'm sure I've seen Aillard referred to that way too! I think the confusion comes from the fact that the two are closely linked- Rohana Aillard married Gabriel Ardais and ..? |

In the Aillards, the Gift has become sex-linked; shows up only in the women, and the men don't carry it. |

BTW, has anyone read any of the Darkover anthologies?

Lisa, this is great! I'm a Darkover fan from way back - my favourites have been the Regis/Lew stories onwards (and I'm just about to start *yet another* re-read of the Clingfire Trilogy books 1 and 2 in anticipation of A flame in Hali being published soon). Really enjoying this drabble - Leonie isn't one of my favourite characters, but I'm liking her more in this...
In short - MORE, PLEASE!! |
