I'm just rereading Goes to It/War (since it finally got returned to me - yay!), and Joey leaves Guernsey on the Wednesday of Easter Week. My notes taken from Chronicle of World War II suggest that Easter Sunday of 1940 was the 24th of March, however when Joey, Frieda and Nell are on the yacht they discuss the use of paratroopers used by the Germans in the invasion of Norway - which occured approximately 2 weeks later on the night of 8/9 April.

Not sure how I'm going to sort this one out...

Interesting... I would never ever have noticed that!

That's very interesting Nicole, I never noticed that to, and there are very few facts about the war in the books. A similar thing happens with the air raid in the same book, its far too early for the Blitz.

I'm trying really hard not to think of that air raid and how I'm going to explain it...

The publication date of the book is 1941, so I can only assume that EBD wrote it in late 1940 when of course air raids etc were a nightly occurence that her audience would have unfortunately been all too familiar with...

It won't help for a story or anything, Nicole, but I think I can see how she made that mistake about Easter. Easter Sunday in 1941 took place on the 13th of April, which is just a nice date (although a year out) after the German invasion of Norway. Perhaps she hadn't a missal handy in which to check the date, and I imagine she was writing "Goes To It" in late 1940/early 1941 and so had that date in her mind.
