#1: Twixt Two Extremes of Passion Author: KathrynW, Location: LondonPosted: Sun May 28, 2006 6:22 pm An outake from the Jane universe although completely unrelated to my Jane drabble, All the World's a Stage.
She rifled through the papers in the top drawer of the desk. She knew it was here, she could feel it burning a hole in the solid wood whenever she was in the room. Her fingers folded round the piece of paper, faded and crumpled from being folded and unfolded so many times. She read the words and felt the familiar stabbing pain. She had read them so often that she could recite them word for word and yet every time that she read them, she felt her heat breaking all over again.
She put her hands protectively on her stomach,
'I will never abandon you my darling. I promise that I will always look after you. I couldn't save them but I won't let anything happen to you.'
A noise behind her startled her.
'My dearest, what's wrong?'
Her husband approached her and brushed away her tears that had fallen unconsciously. He saw the cable in her hand and tears of his own began to form.
'They are at peace now my love' he said quietly. 'There was nothing we could do for them.'
For a moment they stood in silence, clinging to each other in their raw grief.
'William,' her voiced trembled uncharacteristically, 'I am going to have another child.'
