Drabble Challenge - Medical in Confidence

'May I have a word, Dr. Maynard?'

'Why, yes of course, what seems to be the problem?'

'You are the problem, Dr Maynard.'

Silence from Jack. unable to believe his ears.

' As I was walking along the path to visit my daughter yesterday, I was overtaken by a group of the older girls from the School at the other end of the Platz. I was quite alarmed when I heard one girl, who had an unfortunately loud voice, discussing my daughter's health with her friends. It seems that you have told your wife far more about my daughter's case than you have bothered to tell me. Surely I, as her mother, ought to have been given this information instead of hearing it broadcast by a loud-voiced schoolgirl.?'

Jack Maynard looked embarrassed, as his interlocutor carried on,

'After all, I would have supposed that since I am paying the quite exorbitant bills, I would have been the correct person to discuss the treatment with. And furthermore, I have asked that another doctor takes over my daughter's case. You see, Dr Maynard, I happen to be the wife of a doctor, and the first thing that I discovered when I married was that medical affairs ought to be, and remain, confidential, not discussed with your wife and transmitted by her to all and sundry at the school. I was appalled by your cavalier disregard of medical confidentiality, and have written to Sir James Russell, the owner of the San, and to the General Medical Council. As soon as my daughter is well enough to be moved, she will be transferred to another Sanatarium where the medical staff actually understand confidentiality. That is all I have to say to you. Goodbye.'

With that, the irate woman walked off, leaving Jack gaping after her.

Surprised

My immediate reaction was poor Jack! She's wrong! It's perfectly OK in Chaletland for Joey to broadcast confidential private medical issues!

(And then the further I got into the above sentence, the more I changed my mind...) Thanks Jennie Very Happy

But if Jo doesn't tell anyone, how can OOAO rush in and alter the daughter's attitudes (and then those of the mother, too), making them both into nicer people?

Wonder if that'd be Jem's reaction on receiving the complaint?

Nice one, Jennie.

Thanks Jennie, not something I'd particularly thought about before but it was good for someone to put Jack in his place!

OOOHHH!!!!!

I am going to enjoy this!

Of course in Chalet land it is OK to discuss people's health and be miraculously cured by the clarion tones of OOAO telling us to stop wallowing in self pity, but...

I always felt there was something I didn't quite like about Jack as a doctor...
