Rather odd things were happening at the Chalet School.
With the death of Hilda Annersley, who had carelessly tripped over a
addtional Maynard ward and fallen off the Platz. Nell Wilson had run away with Gaudenz, and Nancy Wilmot had decided working in Iceland was more to her taste (gotta love those frozen peas) so there was a power void at the school, and into it had stepped an Old Girl, but not an ordinary Old-Girl-who-was-bossy-and-head-girl-and-went-to-Oxyford-etc but one who had a REPUTATION and had been expelled! How Thelka von Stift actually got the job is best left to the imagination, but there she was.
This term there was only one new girl, but what a new girl she was. People could tell she was a rebel from the fact she wore her golden tresses loose down past her waist, and rather than condescending to wear the school uniform, wore rather pretty floral print dresses. Her sheepdog Hilary Bennet had tried to point out on the first day that it just wasn't done to ignore the school's uniform, but her screams as she was eaten rather suggested the new girl thought otherwise.
On the first evening there was a hobbies club meeting, and everyone was
rather excited by the fact the new girl could not only paint pretty pictures on china for both landscape scenes and flowers, but could also crochet, make dolls and press flowers.
'Golly Whizz,' said Phil Craven, looking rather impressed, 'we'll have the best collection of stuff ever this year!' and was promptly eaten, causing the others in the room to back away slowly, and one soul to mutter.
'She could have eaten ML instead.'
The new girls’ eye's lit up at this, and promptly ate the rest of the room, leaving ML to last as she rather screamed the best and it sounded rather good.
The noise of the screams did draw the attention of a passing mistress,
Gillian Young, who had been forced out of motherhood by Thelka to come and work again at the school, partly because Joyce could not be found, she had had more sense and was now living in a tree. Poor Gillian was eaten too, and even Thelka was angry when she heard this, as she had had her own plans!
Having feasted on a delicious meal (school girls were always nice and
tender) the new girl licked her lips and happily got on with her work.
It wasn't until later that she began to feel a little bit queasy, and she promptly reported herself to Matron, as after all here was a woman after her own heart, with great equipment of torture. She found matron with Dr Rosomon, who had called by to enquire about the next batch of vaccinations.
This was too much for Georgiana, if anyone was going to play with needles it was going to be her, and with that she ate Matron and Laurie, and suddenly felt a whole lot better.
Now onwards for the Head and complete domination.
