#1: Sister and brother (200 word drabble challenge) Author: Alison H, Location: ManchesterPosted: Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:18 pm (The "so helpless" comment is from one of Dick's letters to Madge in "School at".)
“Well, Russell seems like a jolly decent sort of chap. I’ll feel a whole lot better when I go back to India this time, knowing that you and Joey have got him to take care of you. I was never happy about you being here with only Mademoiselle Lepattre to keep an eye on you. Women are so helpless – they need a man to look after them!”
“What? Who’s looked after Joey all these years? And the Robin, when Ted took himself off to Russia and decided that he wasn’t taking her with him? Not to mention Juliet Carrick, whose parents left her with me and then named me as her legal guardian! And Therese has never “kept an eye on" me – she’s my business partner, and we’ve built up a very good school between us. Anyway, if you were so worried about Joey and me, why didn’t you get a job in Taverton and keep an eye on us yourself? And I suppose next you’ll be asking me to look after your children when you and Mollie go back to India!”
Dick sighed. Maybe, after all, it wasn’t his sisters who needed someone to rely on – it was him.
