I liked this - it reminded me of Monica Turns Up Trumps a lot. Doesn't everyone wish at some point that they could step into a ready-made family?

How realistic would a bus-free town like Wynyards be in the 1920's/30's? I found that a bit odd, especially as I live in Oxfordshire and the local trains are rubbish but the buses are excellent!

Depending how big (wide) the town was it could be done quite easily. If the main street is the only one where buses are banned from and there is a road which runs along aside it then it's not far for buses or trains - Cardiff is all pedatrisian in the very centre where the shops etc are

Just re-read this, and I like it!

Although I really think Lorna's Mum, Bess, is very harsh on poor Lorna. I think most of the problem with Lorna was that she was ignored so much at home. I know her Mum needed to look after her husband, Angel, and Lizette, but I don't understand why she can't understand it's partly her own fault that Lorna is as she is.

I think Kit and Aunty Kath are very well drawn, very believable and much more of a family to Lorna than her own are (excepting Freda and Fabian whom she seems to get on fine with).

Overall, love it! Compared to Stepsisters it's a darn good read, and the exchanges between Lorna and her aunt always make me feel good.
