I can't put my hand on the book that will give me the answer to these questions, if you'd be so good...

Mollie Maynard did marry someone called Jock, didn't she?
When was this?
Didn't they leave and go somewhere like Singapore?
Did she get married from the Tirol, or somewhere else?

Thanks very much!

Mollie appears to have married a few different people if you go the names, but I think Jock is mentioned in Reunion. I'm pretty sure she ends up in New Zealand with 6 kids including twin girls.

She does leave during the Tirol books but I'm not sure when. There isn't a description of her marriage, but I would assume it would have been at Pretty Maids as her parents were still alive.

Just found this in Eustacia. Madge is talking to Juliet:
Quote:
‘Has Jo told you that we are losing Miss Maynard at the end of this half-term?’

But very quickly Miss Maynard seems to have been replaced by Miss Leslie - certainly long before half term. She's in Mlle's study at one point and then vanshes a couple of chapers later with no farewell.

The person who married a Jock and moved to Singapore was Con Stewart.

Yes, I thought Con married Jock too Confused Maybe they were both married to the same person? Shocked

Well I think they were both Mackenzie after they married, so it is possible! Wink *sees drabble potential*

There's a short story about Joey thinking Miss Maynard's fiancee is a burglar in one of the Chalet books for girls and I think his Christian name is mentioned though there's no guarantee that it stays that. Confused And I now think I was mistaken and there's no mention of him being called Jock in Reunion.

Ah, yes. I knew someone married Jock and went to Singapore! It's only a passing reference I'm making in my story really, I really wanted to make sure that she had been married and had left by Exile. I think I'll keep on calling him Jock unless anyone can think of a better name!

Thanks, everyone!

She left the School partway through Eustacia - she got married and travelled to Australia or New Zealand during Camp.

Ken Mackenzie? Sounds a bit silly doesn't it? I know that there are plenty of Donald MacDonald's and John Johnson's about but I always feel that their namers can't have had much imagination. Very Happy

It might sound a bit better if you put what I presume was the whole thing - Kenneth.

So Kenneth MacKenzie. Not sure what I think about that to be honest!

Maybe he was really John Mackenzie and Jock was a nickname for John, or just because he was Scottish, and Ken was a nickname for Mackenzie, perhaps because Mollie didn't like his actual Christian name.

Her earlier fiance (or rather, Ken's name before being EBD-ismed) was Ralph Arden. I think there's a third name in the mix too, but I can't remember what it is. Oooh - is it someone Bennett?

We find out in Camp that her husband has a job in New Zealand and they are emigrating without coming to say goodbye! According to my family tree list, by Prefects her family are:

Mary MAYNARD (Molly) 46 = Kenneth MacKENZIE

Robert John 22
Dorothy Mary (Dolly) 21
Cicely Jane (Cis) 21
Hugh Kenneth 19
Frank Robert 18
Peter Charles 16
Christopher James 15

I think that's how is pans out, anyway. The ages may be slightly vague!

Thanks, everyone. I've gone with Ken rather than Kenneth, because in the story, his name comes up in a conversation and Ken sounded more natural. You're right though, Tamzin and Squirrel, Ken Mackenzie is a very unimaginitive name!
