Yey! I've read this - but don't have the book to hand so this might be difficult. However, I didn't like to think of this thread standing unloved for so long so I'm gonna have my say - however short it may be! This was my first and so far only La Rochelle book. And to be honest, I'm not sure how much it inspires me to read the others. Although I enjoyed it, and the parts on the different methods of parenting (was it Mike who pulled the wallpaper off the wall??) were interesting and funny. But the story itself just seemed to lack direction, and I think I was probably disappointed because I was so looking forward to reading the La Rochelle series. can anyone suggest another La Rochelle book that might be good to read based on my experiences? I think part of my difficulties were in figuring out who was related to who!!

I like it as part of the whole La Rochelle series, but I would have been bemused to have read it on its own! I've just had a re-read of the La Rochelles but not in the right order Shocked mainly due to them being on top of the bookcase and me just grabbing the nearest book Embarassed adn this is the one I am currently reading. I do like Janie and Julian, I can see why Joey got on well with them in Exile and afterwards. And like all the LRs, it helps to put the Lucy/Chester/Ozanne/Willoughby/Eltringham clans in their proper places. However ... I have just discovered my copy is missing a couple of pages - I don't know how I didn't notice that the first time I read it!!! Must have been interrupted at that point or something ... so I've missed Rex's proposal. I shall head over to another thread and shamelessly beg for them Razz

Yippe i've read this one. It was the 1st of the La Rochelle books i'd read. I was a tad confused as to who everyone was but, on the whole i enjoyed it. I always feelt when reading the CS books that you were supposed to know more about these families than EBD had actually told you, now when i read about them in the CS i don't feel like they are a secret I am not aloud to be in on (if you see what i mean).
