One word: awful. It's only saving grace is that it's not QUITE as bas as 'A leader in spite of herself.' *goes to find a bucket*

I do remember reading it, and as far as I recall nothing happened except Beechy waffled a bit.........

Glad it was quite short really Wink

If that had been the first book EBD submitted for publication, it wouldn't have been accepted! A real non-event!

ok, have read it now.

First thought is that this reads like a sunday school prize. My great uncle had a whole pile of books with very worthy stories, all of which included various children letting Christ into their hearts, being too afraid to admit to being a Christian and finally coming to see that they have to be bold and brave about their beliefs to experience any happiness in their life.

I think it is mean that Beechy isn't allowed to grieve for her mother - and her aunt never did come back to say goodbye! Poor Beechy - shunted from pillar to post with nothing more than a moral in her heart to guide her.

Did anyone else think it interesting how many CS style things happen in this story? The description of the "green" dormitory for example, and the explanation of which drawers were to be used for which clothes!

I don't think this will ever be very high up on my list of fave EBDs - but it sure as anything beats Mystery!!!!!
