My first drabble; be gentle with me!

I watched you across the grave and the tears that flowed from my eyes were for you as much as for her. I loved you so much, but how could I say? How could I deny my beloved, my cherished one.

She had always been baby, my Lala. When she called, I answered her. She was my whole life. I gave up a career for her, quick as a heartbeat. Even her name kept her young, right until the day she died.

She was so weak, so helpless; I carried her children for her, I carried her marriage, and all the while I thought of you. My handsome doctor.

You married and I was there. I cried silent tears for a week when the invitation came, but I stood strong and proud, watching your beautiful wife walk up the aisle. I missed you, but my own pride and folly kept you from me.

Throughout our lives, I have watched and waited, and now here we are, two old and broken people, haunted by our shared and seperate pasts. I have the children to think of, children no longer; great nieces and nephews, who look to me as to a grandmother. I am all they have now.

I wish we could grow old together, die in peaceful solitude. Your extended family, oh so extended, would love that - they always hated that you never married a chalet girl. Somehow, my darling, I know that will never be. Too late to be a family.

Too late by far.

But which Polly is it? Can't be Polly Winterton - her sister was a chalet girl too.

Ooh, I hadn;t even thought of that; I was thinking of Polly Winterton, but not that Lala married the man in question (I was thinking of Rix, even though he was never named). Hmm.

I got it too. Polly was in love with Rix, but gave up on her own life to look after Lala, when Lala became sick?
