The first day back at school was always difficult for the boys; readjusting after the holidays back to the tyranny of the cane and other instruments of brutal torture including the force feeding of gristle stew on Tuesdays' lunch.

Stephen Maynard eyed one elderly teacher known for his strict discipline and preference for torture using Latin and ear pulling. Stephen had returned from the Gornetz Platz with a friend who had been staying with him.

Tommy Wilkins was a boy who had led a sheltered life and come from a strict all male household. Tommy was not confident around girls and women and tended to think of them as unobtainable superior beings to his low self instead of perfectly normal rational human beings.

Tommy had been talking to Stephen about girls ever since the final days of the holiday and all through the lengthy journey. Tommy had thought he had died and gone to heaven when he was allowed on the hallowed ground of the Chalet School for a tour. A real girls' school! Wow! Wasn't it illegal for him to be there? He did not realise that the triplets had begun to give him some very funny looks and he had already acquired the nickname "Weirdo Wilkins" from Margot.

There was some justification when he appeared to express astonishment at the toilets in the Chalet School. (He was in fact surprised at how clean they were compared to the broken latrines at the boys' school). Margot had snapped at him,

"Yes we have toilets here, girls need the loo too you know!"

Tommy was impressed by all things feminine and was quite shocked to see his friend Stephen not only be cheeky to his sisters, but answer them back and hold his own in a row with them.

There was one person Tommy was very impressed with and he decided to broach the subject with Stephen over tea that night.

The first night back was always one where a good spread was laid on and this was likely to put Stephen in a good mood, so Tommy reasoned.

Stephen was tired, crotchety and wanted to go to bed, therefore he was not in the sunniest of tempers, when Tommy said, as subtle as a tank,

"Maynard, I really fancy your mother and your sister is really sexy!"

There was a clang as Stephen dropped his knife and fork and fixed Tommy with a glare. Sniggers spread around the table.

Stephen did not say a word. He just sat there glaring at Tommy.

It took Tommy several seconds to realise that his comment had not been taken the way he meant it.

"That is so out of order Wilkins!"

"You shouldn't have said that mate!"

"Maynard's gonna beat you up!"

Then suddenly,

"I wouldn't mind going out with Maynard's sister!"

One of the sixth form, a yob named Boyce, passed by and heard the conversation. He thought he would stick his oar in.

"Especially that one with the black hair! What's her name? Connie? Wahey!"

Everyone at the table was laughing at poor Stephen and he could no longer bear it. He jumped up, headbutting Boyce on the nose and scarpered for the dormitories. Behind him he could hear Boyce squealing like a pig as he writhed in pain, anger and humiliation.

It was horrible for Stephen. His sister Con was lovely and gentle and the thought of that monster with Con made Stephen weep into his pillow. He did not have long to weep as his friends arrived, thankfully without Tommy. He hurriedly washed his face.

"Well done Maynard!"

"That'll teach him!"

"We told the Head what Boyce said and Boyce is so gonna get it!"

"Yeah! We said he was bullying you and saying rude things about your family."

Stephen turned away.

"You know if people never mention my family again, then I would be so happy. My family's private."

Thanks Phil. Poor Steve, it must have been hard to see the difference between the two schools. The girls stay near home and have better, clean conditions.

Poor Stephen. He must be feeling very embarrassed right now. It is never nice when people start making suggestive comments about your siblings.

Thanks. :D

My first thought reading that was "you mean one of the BOYS was allowed to have a friend and to bring him home?!" LOL thanks Phil.
